WATCH YOUR WELLIES GROW THIS HARVEST
GIVE IT SOME WELLY WITH THESE FUNDRAISING IDEAS Wellies aren’t just wet weather friends! They can also be a great way to raise money and help farmers in eastern Africa give hunger the boot. Visit www.farmafrica.org/harvest for resources and ideas to help make your fundraising a success. FILL YOUR BOOTS! Swap the collection plate for a collection boot. Pass a welly around the congregation or leave a pair at the door to be filled with spare change. Please ask people to complete Gift Aid envelopes. HARVEST MEAL Bring your congregation together to break bread in support of communities in eastern Africa. Why not see what recipes you can come up with using crops that are grown in Africa? WELLY-GOOD CAKES You could sell welly-shaped biscuits or Africa-themed cakes after your service or at a special coffee and cake event. PUT ON YOUR SUNDAY BEST Ask your congregation to make a donation and wear their wellies to church. Don’t forget to take photos and send them to us! BOOT-IFUL BOOTS Get out the glitter, glue and paint and ask your Sunday school children to decorate their wellies. They could make them Africa or farming themed! Children donate to take part and you could exhibit the wellies afterwards. BLOOMING BOOTS Ask your church flower arrangers to create arrangements of corn, fruit and seasonal flowers in wellies for your Harvest service. At the end of the service, or after your Harvest meal, auction or raffle the arrangements for Farm Africa. “It raised a good laugh when the wellies went round for the collection. Also, the wellies looked effective on our harvest display topped with flowers, fruit and veg. A member of the congregation came up and wanted to take the literature you’d provided and donated a gift for it.” - Anne Arrowsmith, Church Secretary, Elmwood United Reformed Church HOWEVER YOU CHOOSE TO FUNDRAISE, YOU WILL BE HELPING AFRICAN FARMERS GIVE HUNGER THE BOOT. HOW AFRICAN FAMILIES WILL REAP WHAT YOUR HARVEST FUNDRAISING SOWS “Farm Africa has helped me to uplift my life and now my family is enjoying the benefits. We thank people in the UK very much for their support.” - David, Farmer and Pastor in Kitui, Kenya “My wife and I faced problems feeding our children. We used to plant seeds that were not good enough, the old ones would get diseases and did not give good yields. Now we sow certified seeds that produce more, and we grow crops that are drought tolerant and well suited to where we live so that even if the rains are not good we are still able to harvest. We have used our extra income to pay for my childrens’ education. I have also invested the money into our farming. I invited our church members to become involved and now many in our congregation are members of the farmers group that benefits from Farm Africa. If I were not in a group I would not have gained the skills that I have now. I would have carried on the way I was and would have faced many difficulties.” Your church can help African families like David’s to reap the rewards of better harvests. Thank you so much for your support. Gift Aid is a great way to make your donations worth 25% more at no extra cost. Please return the enclosed postcard to request your Gift Aid envelopes.
