2016 May - First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville
The Loveletter MAY 2016 Sharing the Love and Joy of Christ From Pastor Coile Dear Friends, It is hard to believe that I have been with you for a year. I will be leaving you at the end of May because a new pastor has been called to our church. He wants there to be a month between the time I leave and the time he begins, so my last Sunday with you will be May 29. It will be a sad day as I say goodbye, but a happy day as we celebrate the wonderful times we have shared. Many people have asked what is next for me. I do not know yet. Mike isn’t teaching this summer, so we want to travel and spend time together. With both of our work schedules, that is hard to do! I will be sending my PIF (personal information form) to churches and presbytery executives, letting them know of my search. I literally “fell into” interim ministry about eighteen months ago and have enjoyed it immensely. However, I am open to God’s leading in searching for my next call. Please recommend me if you have the opportunity and let me know if you hear of a position I should consider (404.405.5692 or [email protected]). A new day is about to dawn in the life of First Presbyterian Church. A new pastor begins July 1 and will bring new skills, new leadership, new ideas and new visions. I will pray for him and for you as you begin your journey together. May God bless you in the years that lie ahead. Faithfully yours, Pastor Coile High School Senior Recognition Sunday May 15th at both worship services Congregational Cookout Sunday, May 15, 4:30 p.m. Camp Cherokee/Cherokee Retreat Center 370 Wilderness Camp Rd. White, Georgia Bring a side dish to share! (see page 7 for details) May 2016 The Loveletter A Gift for FPC Last month, the grandchildren and great grandchild of Mr. H. Carl Nelson visited Pastor Coile and presented an engraved silver tray to our Church that FPC had presented to their grandfather in appreciation for his service as Sunday School Superintendent for forty-four years. Mr. Nelson’s children were identical twins: Betty Minish and Nell Nipper. Betty’s children and granddaughter presented the tray. They are Mrs. Sarah Minish Beauchamp, Mrs. Elizabeth Minish Cunningham, Dr. Lee Minish Myers, and Sarah’s daughter, Stacey N. Beauchamp. The tray is in the Pastor’s office and will be used for special church receptions and meals. New Email Addresses The church has a new internet provider. First Presbyterian Church hosted the Family Promise program for our second time in January. We had a lovely family of a mother and a teenage girl, and many of us became close to them while they lived in our church. We had more than 50 volunteers support the program again this time. In addition to the FPC volunteers, the Church of Ascension, our support church, provided about 10 more. There were a few other volunteers from other area churches as well as some help from our after-school youth. The presence of these volunteers and their service makes this a successful endeavor. We also have some wonderful news to share. We have successfully worked with the after-school program, the preschool program, and our children and youth groups to be able to use four of the upstairs classrooms for our next time as a Family Promise host. This will allow us to serve up to four families (as needed) during our Family Promise host weeks, and it provides more privacy for each family and more room for them to enjoy our church as a home for a week. First Presbyterian Church is so involved with our community. It is rewarding to be a part of a church family that works together to serve as many people as possible. We may have different callings, but our church offers many opportunities for service. This work fulfills the call found in Romans 12:4-7: “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not have all the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach.” First Presbyterian Church will be hosting Family Promise again on the dates below. Please contact Denise Manning at [email protected] or 678.986.5649 to volunteer for any of the different opportunities available. You can help as much as you want. Some of the possibilities are to provide a meal for a family, spend time and play games with a family, spend the night with the families, provide food for families for lunch or snacks, or set up the living areas and put them back in order. We can find a place for you!
