IHG announces that a Hotel Indigo is coming to St. Petersburg, Fla. The 76-room conversion property will open as a Hotel Indigo in early 2009.
The Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg Downtown-North is a conversion of the Heritage Hotel, which is centrally located in downtown St. Petersburg at 234 Third
Ave. North. Just two blocks away from Tampa Bay's marinas and parks, the hotel is within easy walking distance of numerous restaurants and boutiques,
an open-air shopping and entertainment plaza featuring a 20-screen movie theater, and a pier with an aquarium. Art galleries and museums, including the
Salvador Dali Museum, Florida International Museum, Fine Arts Museum, Museum of History, and the Holocaust Museum are also nearby.
The National Restaurant Association honored Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, headquartered in San Francisco, as the recipient of its Faces of
Diversity Award in the Inspiration category at a ceremony held during the Association's 2008 Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show. The restaurant and
foodservice industry is one of the most diverse industries in America, and through this award, the Association highlights companies that embrace diversity
and inclusion. "This year's winners represent the many incredible success stories of our industry and the commitment of companies in the restaurant
industry to embrace diversity and inclusion. We are proud to celebrate their accomplishments," said Dawn Sweeney, President and CEO of the Association.
"Just like the company values the uniqueness of each location it operates, Kimpton also recognizes the uniqueness in each of its employees and continues
to build success through a culture of inclusion."
Summit Hotels & Resorts welcomes two new members - Grand Pacific Le Daiba and Hotel Pacific Tokyo - to its network of more than 135 hotels and
resorts in over 40 countries. The two hotels have just completed their management contracts with a major chain brand and have decided to partner with
Summit Hotels & Resorts for global distribution and marketing support, while maintaining their brand individuality and local authenticity.
Concorde Hotels & Resorts has recently appointed Jérôme Billy as Director of Sales at the Group's premier Parisian properties, Hotel du Louvre
and Hotel Lutetia. Leading a team of six, Billy will oversee all sales initiatives for the two Paris hotels while strengthening relationships with the hotels' top
clients. "We are thrilled to welcome Jérôme to the Concorde Sales team," said Francoise Houdebine, Vice President, Sales & Marketing for Concorde
Hotels & Resorts. "His extensive sales and marketing leadership experience will play a major role in the continued success of Hotel du Louvre and Hotel
Lutetia."
Crowne Plaza Canberra and the adjacent National Convention Centre (NCC) emerged as the major winners at this year's Australian Hotels
Association (AHA) Awards for the ACT, scooping four major awards between them. The NCC, which relaunched in late 2007 after a dramatic
refurbishment to re-establish the centre as a world-class conferencing, event and convention facility, was recognised for its support of local community
groups and charities with the 2008 Outstanding Community Achievement Award. Over the last year, the centre has driven and participated in a range of
fundraising and community assistance activities, including a partnership with OzHarvest to feed the Territory's disadvantaged, pulling two dragon boat teams
together to raise money for breast cancer research and awareness, and participating in an 1,100 kilometre cycling fundraiser for the Starlight Foundation.
Crowne Plaza Canberra, which was also upgraded in 2007, took home several major awards, including those for Best Superior Accommodation and Best
Restaurant in a Hotel (for redsalt). General manager for both Crowne Plaza Canberra and the NCC, Matt Young - who participated in the Starlight
Foundation cycling challenge - personally received the special award at the AHA's ACT Region Member of the Year. Held last night at the NCC and
attracting a who's who of the Territory's tourism sector, the annual AHA awards are the preeminent hotel industry event. Winners at the ACT awards are
automatic entrants into the national AHA awards held later in the year.
Building on its commitment to making life easier for accommodation providers, DirectWithHotels has forged a partnership with RMS, one of
Australia's foremost reservations management solutions provider. The partnership integrates DirectWithHotels' reservations system with RMS'
OnlineClient system, resulting in the management of room availability, room rates and reservation information using a single interface. This integration
provides hoteliers with a seamless approach to managing and receiving reservations. The minute a reservation is made on a hotel's website through the
DirectWithHotels Guest Interface, the reservation details are automatically reflected on the hotel's OnlineClient system. "We are enthusiastic about the
benefits this partnership will bring to our hotel partners," said Emiliano Zulberti, president and chief executive officer of DirectWithHotels. "Combining our
technology with that of RMS' streamlines the process of updating room availability on the hotel's website and on the entire reservation platform, since there
is real time communication between our two systems. Thus, our clients are assured of eliminating the possibility of any double bookings and cumbersome
manual re-entry procedures."
Australian-based accommodation website, Wotif.com's acquisition of Asia Web Direct earlier this year puts the Group on track to achieve its
goal of selling one million room-nights for its Asian hotel partners. AWD Chief Executive Officer, Ms Jirapa (Sii) Eawsakul said: "Last year Wotif.com
sold more than 190,000 room-nights for accommodation partners in Asia, representing 65% growth and AWD's Asian hotel sales grew 40% to more than
450,000 room-nights. "With this significant sales base the combined Group is well placed to continue strongly driving sales in Asia and we are well
positioned to hit sales of 1 million room-nights" she added. Speaking at the 2008 Thailand Travel Mart in Bangkok, Ms Eawsakul said the Company will roll
out new innovations to meet customer needs and will work closely with its accommodation partners to ensure maximum exposure to the 6 million plus
customers who visit the Group's sites each month (www.latestays.com, www.smartstays.com and www.wotif.com). "Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and
Malaysia are four key destinations we are focusing on in Asia not only by growing our range of accommodation properties, but also by marketing to local
consumers. We have also set clear objectives for other emerging destinations across the region such as Vietnam and Cambodia.

Managing Director Domina Coral Bay, Sharm-el-Sheikh, General
Manager Excelsior Hotel Spa & Casino, Dubrovnik sowie General
Manager Cumberland Le Méridien Hotel Marble Arch, London.
