Product Information and Expectations
Woven Woods
• Some patterns appear frayed at the edges.
• Shades stretch.
• Materials twist, have splices, knot holes, and varying stick
widths.
• Shade appears chipped and cracked along the edges.
• Colors are inconsistent with the sample book.
Some material patterns fray on the edges by design, like a pair
of cut-off blue jeans. The frayed edge varies depending on the
size of the shade and only frays to the first yarn line. The
unique style of these patterns is quite beautiful. All woven
woods are going to stretch due to the natural yarn fibers used
in the weaving process. We offer edge binding in both 1” and
2” widths, both of which provide a nice color accent for the
window treatment and can disguise any fraying on fabric edges.
Bamboo and other far-eastern woods grow naturally with
many imperfections. Many of these varieties do not grow very
long. To weave a pattern that is 96” wide, you must splice some
of these woods and use others as they appear in nature. Twists,
knot holes, various stick widths, splices, bowing and camber
are inherent characteristics to all woven wood materials.
Woven wood shades should not be sold to a consumer who
expects to have shades made without these imperfections or
to have every shade perfectly match each other. The wood
used in woven wood shades come from multiple varieties. It
can be brittle or soft, thick or thin, round or flat, and it is
extremely difficult to cut. Bamboo will crack to some degree
when cut. Sometimes there will be minor chipping. If you feel
your customer will find this unacceptable, you may want to
consider having the shades edge bound. Of all the woods used
in the construction of woven wood shades, bamboo causes the
most color problems. Bamboo is green when harvested. As it
ages, it becomes yellow and then finally turns a mixture of
yellow and brown. It can take several years for these changes
to take place. We make every attempt to match our sample
book as closely as possible, but we cannot guarantee an exact
match especially with bamboo. This may cause a problem if
your customer is trying to closely match colors in their room
and is not informed of the possible color variances from the
sample book. Please see Commercial Tolerance, for more
information.
Policy Exceptions
Skandia will not manufacture a product outside of our
specifications without a written waiver of warranty signed by the
dealer. It is the dealer’s responsibility to notify the consumer that
the product is no longer covered by Skandia’s warranty.
Complaints
• General
We want to know if you are unhappy with our service. This is
the best way we have in determining how we are doing and
what areas need improvement. Please contact our customer
service manager or regional sales manager with your
complaint.
Child Safety
Skandia manufactures all of our products using the most recent
child safety guidelines. Please inform your customers of the
dangers of strangulation from all window coverings that make
use of any type of cording.
Motorized shades, cordless shades and shutters are all cord free
and child safe products.
Production Time and Back Orders
On most products, standard production time is 4 working days.
Our manufacturing facility is designed for flexibility in the
quantity of all products we produce. Back orders are problems
that are part of doing business. Although we maintain a larger
inventory of thousands of items based on historical usage, unexpected backorders may still occur. We will call you on all
back-ordered items if the delivery of your product will be delayed more than 3 days. The new delivery date we give you is
based on information we receive from our suppliers. At times,
this date may change. We will make every attempt to keep
you informed concerning these changes.
Most problems consumers experience with Skandia products
are minor in nature. These problems can and should be corrected by a qualified installer at the time of installation. We recommend you use an installer who carries a small stock of
replacement parts (provided free of cost from Skandia), and
whose fee includes whatever callbacks are necessary to satisfy a
customer’s needs. Problems that cannot be corrected at the customer’s home require returning the product to one of Skandia’s
7/14
Melhanna Woven Wood Shades
manufacturing or repair facilities for correction. We will certainly do our part to make the corrections as quickly as possible.
More than 97% of consumer complaints arise from the fact
that the product advantages and disadvantages for a particular
window application were not discussed at the point of sale.
Explaining to consumers what they can expect from the window covering they choose is essential and cannot be stressed
enough. While we make every effort to deliver custom products to your specifications, we will try to advise or caution you
when we anticipate a problem. For specific product advisements, refer to the product page. Although we cannot possibly
know as much about your window or functional application
as you do, we do know our products, their limits, and their
strengths.
• Material/Fabric Bias - Bias is inherent to all fabrics, regardless of
the composition of the fabric material. Bias can be seen in 3 different
forms. Bias can be side to side (horizontal), top to bottom (vertical),
or front to back (twist). Print patterns, stitching patterns and glue
lines make up the majority of horizontal and vertical bias problems.
How the fabric is slit, glued or woven at the mill is the cause of all
fabric bias twist. Vertical blind fabric, which is woven as wide goods
and then slit down to 3 1/2” louver widths at the mill, will have a
certain amount of twist depending on how well the slitting process
is done. Cellular shades, where each cell is glued to the previous cell,
will have all three forms of bias depending on how well the machine
gluing process is completed. This is especially true with 2-on-1 headrail shades, where one shade twists toward the window, while the
other shade twists toward the room’s interior. Woven woods have
all three bias forms present due to the yarns stretching as the material
is woven on looms. Under each product’s specifications, we list the
acceptable standards used in determining the bias you may experience. It is important to make your customer aware that these bias issues are an inherent part of the fabric used in the product they
selected and are considered normal.
• Slat and Yarn Migration - Side-to-side movement of both slats
and yarn within a woven wood product. Woven wood material is
constructed using a combination of far-eastern wood slats and yarn.
The yarn holds the slats in position but not tightly. Pushing on either
side of the shade will cause the slats to bulge out on the opposite
side. You can press on the bulge and straighten the sides of the shade,
but the yarns will be slightly out of their vertical position. This happens to some degree every time the shade is raised or lowered. The
movement is slight, but over time the cumulative effect can become
noticeable. This is an inherent by-product in the construction of all
woven woods and considered acceptable. Please advise your customer accordingly.
• Discoloration - A product’s color that changes negatively. Generally, a fading in the color’s intensity or a yellowing of the color. In
most cases, discoloration is a simple fading of the color. This can be
caused by many factors including but not limited to, the temperature
and humidity of the home, chemical cleaning agents, long-term sun
exposure, cleanliness of the home and the age of the product. Many
woven wood materials will naturally change color over time or with
7/14
WR-3
exposure to sunlight. The sun’s rays can be very damaging to vinyl
and fabric materials. Even though we use the finest materials available including the latest UV (ultraviolet) resistant finishes, a reasonable amount of discoloration, over time, is to be expected.
Definitions
• Color Variations - Skandia maintains strict quality standards
to minimize color variations. We recommend that you not attempt exact color matches from your sample books. It is a fact,
that regardless of the industry, colors change from one lot to
another.
• Dye Lot Coloration and Surface Texture Variances Between
Material Runs – When our suppliers paint, dye or extrude the
materials we use to fabricate our products, there are slight coloration changes in each run. Ordering a current color swatch
for exact color match is not a good idea. Our inventory turns
very quickly. By the time your customer is ready to place an
order, in all likelihood, our current dye-lot will have changed.
The best solution is to inform your customer that slight color
and texture variations are to be expected.
• Commercial Tolerance - Holding the materials 2 feet apart,
there is no discernible difference between colors or textures with
the exception of Melhanna Woven Woods. The many factors
that influence color and texture make it impossible to paint, dye
or extrude materials that match perfectly from run to run. There
will always be slight differences. However, our experience has
shown that these differences are not significant and can only be
seen if the materials are placed next to each other. Holding the
materials 2 feet apart, you will not be able to see a discernible
difference. This is the standard we hold our vendors to and
should not be an issue as long as your customer orders all the
window coverings for a single room at the same time. The one
exception is our Melhanna woven woods. The materials used
in these natural shades are harvested year round. Each roll of
woven material has many color variations, therefore, each shade
manufactured is unique in its coloration. The consumer needs
to be made aware of these inherent characteristics.

Product Notes:
• Some variations in color, minimal warpage and significant material bias may
occur. This includes a slight camber (arching out) of the shade. Additionally, the
edges of a shade may appear uneven due to slat and yarn migration. Slat shape,
thickness, splices, cracked and uneven spacing should be expected. Pattern
changes, as well as, knots, splices and thickness in the yarn and/or grass material
used is normal. These are all natural occurring tendencies of all woven wood products and are considered acceptable. Bamboo is green when harvested. Over time it
will gradually turn to golden brown hues. Therefore, any attempt to color match
bamboo shades with exact room colors will initially fail. Please allow several
months for bamboo shades to reach their final color. The final color may or may
not match the current swatch in the sample book. Returns for color variation will
not be accepted.
• The gap between multiple shades on one headrail is 1/4”.
• Exact shade length cannot be guaranteed due to considerable material stretching over time.

Melhanna Woven Wood Shades WR-11
Standard Woven Wood Roman Shade
Fabricated on a 1-1/2” x 1/2” natural unfinished
wood headrail. Woven wood material is mounted to
the back of the headrail and raises and lowers in a
Roman-fold manner, using pulleys and pulley-like
cord lock. A standard 6” valance folds down from
front of headrail, hiding control mechanisms. See
Standard Valance description this page. Shade lays
flat when completely lowered. Shade is operated by
tassel-capped 1.6mm cords and are color-coordinated to the woven wood material. The hem at the
bottom of the shade is folded. Additional headrail
sizes are available.
Waterfall Fabric Mount
Woven wood material is mounted to the front of the
headrail and raises and lowers in a Roman-fold manner. Shade lays flat when completely lowered. The
1.6mm color-coordinated cords and hardware are
concealed behind the shade which can cause difficulty in the raising and lowering of the shade, as well
as increase the chance of material fraying on the edge
of the shade. The hem at the bottom of the shade is
folded.
Surchagre:$ 15
Twin Headrail
Allows for a pleated shade liner, pleated shade, or
7/16” cellular shade to be used as a liner behind
the standard woven wood Roman shade.
Pleated liner, pleated shade or cellular shade twin
headrails are fabricated on a 3-1/8” x 1/2” wood
headrail.
Woven wood material is mounted to the middle of
the headrail and raises and lowers in a Roman-fold
manner, using pulleys and pulley-like cord lock. A
standard 6” valance folds down from front of headrail, hiding control mechanisms. See Standard
Valance description this page. The back shade is
mounted at the back edge of the board. Controls for
both shades are accessible from the front of the
woven wood shade.
Simple Ascent available for back shade only.
See page WR-9 for Twin Head Rail Surcharge.
Material Only
Minimum piece size is material full width 72”, 96”,
or 120” (pattern dependent) by 12” high. Larger
piece size must be ordered in 6” increments. $10
per square foot, minimum freight charge $15.
TopDown/BottomUp Woven Wood Roman Shade
Fabricated on a 1-1/2” x 1/2” color coordinated solid
wood headrail. Woven wood material is mounted to
a floating wood rail and raised in a Roman-fold
manner, using pulley-like cord locks and eye screws.
A standard 6” valance folds down from front of
headrail, hiding control mechanisms. See Standard
Valance description this page. Shade lowers from
the top and is raised from the bottom of shade.
When the top is lowered the 1.6mm color-coordinated cords will be visible in the center of the window opening. If this shade is ordered with lining, the
valance will also be lined.
Surcharge: $90
7/14
Standard Valance
A 6” valance is standard and is cut the same width
as the shade. On OB shades, standard length of returns is 2” except when ordered with Simple Ascent
then they are 4”. Returns the same length as valance
must be requested at time of order. Returns longer
than the valance are available at a surcharge. The
width of the returns cannot be less than 1”. The
valance is cut the same width as the shade if the
shade is ordered without valance returns. If shade is
ordered with valance returns, the wood headrail will
be cut 1” narrower to accommodate the returns on
each end. Valances for TD/BU and Twin Headrails
are cut 1” wider than the headrail and fabric to
allow room for returns to fit behind valance.
Valances over the standard 6” in length are available
at a surcharge. Valances wider than the headrail are
available at a surcharge.
Surcharge: $18
Simple Ascent™ Lift Control
Fabricated on a 2-1/2” x 1/2” solid wood headrail.
Woven wood material is mounted to the back of the
headrail and raises and lowers in a Roman-fold manner, using a clutch system. A standard 6” valance
folds down from front of headrail, hiding control
mechanisms. See Standard Valance description this
page. Shade lays flat when completely lowered.
Shade is operated by a continuous loop control cord
that raises and lowers the shade precisely at any
height. The powerful clutch makes ease of use and is
perfect for large spans and heavier materials. Nylon
cord loop is color-coordinated, up to 60”, over 60”
cord is white. Max cord length is 120”. Metal bead
chain control recommended on heavier materials
and longer shades. The hem at the bottom of the
shade is folded.

WR-12 Melhanna
Mandalay™ Vertical Woven Wood Drapery
Fabricated by turning woven wood material pattern
vertical. Maximum length is 96” to 120” pattern dependent.
Woven wood material traverses on an aluminum
track, using a pull handle on the leading wood rail.
Mandalay can be ordered as a one-way draw or as a
split draw. Both the stationary rail and the lead rail
can be color coordinated using any of the painted or
stained colors available. Refer to the Woven Wood
Sample Book 2 for actual color selector.
The Riverwalk or the GrandView wood cornice is
the standard finishing touch for the panel track. Either cornice can be inserted with the same woven
wood material as the panels. The material pattern will
run horizontal and is dependent on maximum material width. Material used with cornices ordered without blocks or keys will be spliced if wider than
material width.
A 6” woven wood material valance is available. The
valance is attached to a wood board to which the
headrail is attached and then installed in opening.
The board is 5-1/2” deep. The material pattern can be
requested upon order to run either horizontally or vertically. Horizontal requests are material width dependent. Ordered widths larger than material width will be
spliced. Vertical requests will be one piece. Refer this
page for more information on vertical valance. Returns can be ordered as 6” or 2” in length. The width
of the returns cannot be less than 1”. Refer to surcharge page on valances over 6” in length, and for
valance returns longer than valance.
Vertical Style Valance Only
Matches the pattern flow of the Mandalay Vertical
Drapery. The valance and the headboard are shipped
separately. Assembly is required. Widths over 96” will
use two headboards spliced together. Maximum
valance width is 192”. Standard valance length is 6”.
Longer lengths can be ordered at a surcharge. Valance
returns do not come separate; they are created with
the same piece of fabric wrapping around the corners
of the head board. Returns must be requested and
cannot be wider than the head board depth.
Liner and edge binding are not available.
Woven Wood Shades
Panel Track
Panel tracks are sliding panels of woven wood material that stack one behind the other. Panels can be ordered in various combinations from 2 to 6 panels.
One-way draws, split stacks (center opening) can be
requested. Panel tracks can be controled by wand or
cord. The headrail is aluminum and is available in
white only. Wands are color-coordinated wood. Cords
are white nylon.
Panels must be edge bound along the sides and top.
Material at bottom of panel is tri-folded. The 1” face
width binding will be used. Customer selects color.
Refer to Woven Wood Sample Book for actual color
selector.
Refer to panel track pages for more information and
track profiles.
Standard Privacy Liner
Liner is attached directly to the woven wood material
at the sides and along the bottom hem. Offered as
light filtering or room darkening.
Six color options: Black, Chamois, White, Ivory,
Beige and Cocoa.
Refer to Woven Wood Sample Book 1 for actual
color selector.
When ordering please specify which color will show
to the streetside of the window.
See price chart on page WR-9.
The board can be ordered as 3-1/2 or 5-1/2” depths.
The material pattern can be requested upon order to
run either horizontally or vertically. Horizontal requests are material width dependent. Ordered widths
larger than material width will be spliced. Vertical requests will be one piece. Returns can be ordered as 6”
or 2” in length. The width of the returns cannot be
less than 1”. Refer to surcharge page on valances over
6” in length, and for valance returns longer than
valance.
See pages WR-8 and WR-9 for surcharges.
Pleated Privacy Liner
Pleated Liner material is attached to the back of the
wood headrail and is operated with cords that are accessible from the front of the shade. The liner on the
back operates independently from the front woven
wood shade. Liner fabric is room darkening, pleated
fabric and comes in white color only.
Available on standard woven wood shades and simple
ascent woven wood shades.
Minimum Width 24" OB.
Shades wider than 72" OB will have liner paneled
into two pieces.

is considered room darkening but is not a complete
blackout.

wood shades.
Not available on woven wood shades with turned
headrails, woven wood waterfall shades or woven
wood top down bottom up shades.

to a 3-1/8” or 5-1/2” headrail. Maximum width is

Simple Ascent™ lift control is not available on a
3-on-1 because a strangulation hazard is caused
when the center cord loop hangs in the middle of
the headrail and cannot be secured safely to a wall
safety clip.
Multiple shades on a headrail over 96” may have a
pieced valance dependent on fabric width. Skandia is not responsible for freight damage on 2-on-1
or 3-on-1 headrails over 96”.
2-n-1 Surcharge: $50
3-n-1 Surcharge: $65
Wood Accent
Half-round, Euro-style wood accent designed for
easy design upgrade for woven wood Roman
shades. Can be applied to top and bottom of
valance, and bottom of shade only. On angled
shades, wood can only be applied to bottom of
valance and bottom of shade.
Arch over Standard Shade
An arch over standard shade is a woven wood shade
that has an arch shaped headrail and the fabric is attached to the back of the headrail matching the headrail shape. The valance in the front will match the
shape of the arch and then extend down for an extra
6” to create the valance for the front of the shade.
The valance can be requested at a longer length for
an additional charge.
These shades will pull up and down like a normal
woven wood. They can be raised up to the bottom of
the outer edges of the headrail. The arch section is
non-moving. Edge trim will be applied to the arched
part of the shade. Skandia will best match the edge
trim to the color of the ordered fabric. Edge binding
is not available on these shades but, you can add liners.
No specialties are available on this product except for
Cut-outs and Wood Accents (applied to bottom of
shade and bottom of valance only).
Surcharge: $125
NOTE: Both non-perfect AND perfect arches require
a template. Skandia will only accept rolled - NOT
FOLDED - templates. Templates must be CUT OUT.
See pages WR-8 and WR-9 for surcharges.

Safety Tension Device prevents cord loop from
twisting or dangling and becoming a safety hazard. Skandia clutch operated Wovenwood
Shades with a continuous cord loop are compliant with the American National Standard for
Safety of Corded Window Treatment Products
(ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2010) that required
manufacturers to be compliant by March 3, 2011.
The new manufacturing safety standard requires
that a cord tension device be installed on all continuous cord loop products and that the tension
device shall be designed so when not properly installed
will, at least partially, prevent the lift system from moving
the window covering through lowering and raising.

Woven Woods - Exploded View of Panel Track
Woven wood panel tracks must be edge bound. Surcharge is included
in pricing. Wide heavy woven wood panels will have a slight bow and
even though they are edge bound, a certain amount of stretching will
occur. We make every attempt to manufacture each panel track to the
specific length requested, but there will be a variance between panel
lengths. After several weeks pass, you may need to return the panels
to us for length adjustments. We will do this at no charge to you, but
it will require additional trips to your customer’s home. You should
figure this into your cost when selling the job.

Woven Wood Shades
Melhanna – Mandalay – Vertical Woven Wood
The Mandalay Vertical Woven
Wood has been re-designed to
offer you three types of fullness.
Now you can order your Mandalay so that it appears relatively
flat when fully closed (flat option), or a full option that thicker
pleats that will require manual
spacing. A third full option offers
uniform pleats when fully closed
resembling a drapery. This option
is achieved by attaching each
pleat together with a chain
and will not require manual
dressing.
The Riverwalk wood cornice
comes as the standard top
treatment and matches the
wooden leading and fixed
rails. The maximum size
available is 192” wide. There
is also an optional valance
available of just woven wood
material of which the pattern will
run in the same direction as the
shade. Not all patterns are available with this product. Please see
the pattern index on the following page.

this product with your customer.
Mandalay is available with lining and
must be requested at time of order. Cannot be lined after manufacturing. Edge
binding, holddown brackets, or extension
brackets are not offered.
A handle comes standard on the leading rail. You
may request a handle on the fixed rail as well, or
specify no handles. There is no additional charge.
We deduct 1/2” from the width and 3/8”
from the length for inside mount. We do
not make any deduction for outside

How to Determine the Retail Price
(Example: #4017 Apia Black, 100” wide x 84” long)
1. Find the price on the base chart. $763.00
2. If ordering standard privacy liner, apply surcharge from Liner price
chart to price chart above.
$763.00 + $323.00 = $1,086.00
3. Find the pattern surcharge for flat from the chart at left.
10% x $1,086.00 = $108.60
• For fullness, apply percentage from Full column instead of Flat.
Uniform pleats are retained by a chain that hooks to each headrail carrier. Chain ships with hardware and 4. Add these together for the total retail price.
$1,086.00 + $108.60 = $1,194.60
must be installed onsite.
* For uniform pleats using chain, apply $88 surcharge in addition
* = Patterns are not ideally suited for use as a vertical woven wood. They tend to have stacking issues.

The bamboo weaves also have a significant bow (arching out) from top to bottom. † = Patterns only availTo determine your cost, use your standard Melhanna Woven Wood Discount.
able as 72” in height.
Please make your customer aware of these inherent characteristics prior to ordering. Patterns not listed in
the table above are not available for use as a vertical woven wood.
Product Notes:

This product has all the same issues that standard woven woods have.
When partially opening or stacking closed, the folds may require hand assistance to maintain a uniform appearance, if not using chains.
WR-20 Motorization
Motorized Lift System for Melhanna® Woven Wood Shades
See weight charts on pages WR-22 through WR-26 for size and motor availability.
Ordering and Pricing
Motorization is available with both the standard Roman fold (fabric mounted to the
back side of the head rail) and the Waterfall
option. The standard Roman fold option will
not raise as tightly to the top of the head rail
as the Waterfall option will. There is a $15
surcharge for the Waterfall option. A
valance to the back of the shade is recommended to conceal the motor mechanism
when using the Waterfall option.
Motorized Woven Wood shades come standard on a 3-1/8” board but can be upgraded
to a 5-1/2” board for a $15 surcharge.
All pricing is based on the motor configuration selected. The next page shows all
the available motor configurations.
They are displayed in a simplified visual
layout which should help you better understand your choices. Each configuration has a price and configuration
number. When placing your order, you
will be asked for the configuration number of your selection. Each configuration
contains all the necessary components to
complete your motor installation.

General:
3. Emphasize to customer not to start pressing buttons on remote; the shades are already programmed. Do not press the
UP and DOWN button at the same time. Don’t push any two
buttons together unless you are programming the shade.
4. When motors seemingly do not have power, check the
power supply cord. Power cords are often times tucked behind
or under materials (under carpet for example) and may be
crimped or pinched. Carpet tacks can damage wires.
5. When resetting the Sonesse ST 30, make sure the paper
clip is inserted straight into the reset button, not at an angle,
to prevent the button from breaking off to the side. Gentle
with the reset buttons!
6. When using wall switches, do not tighten switch plate to
where it pinches antenna, causing damage.
