Varsity Soccer Players - Ruben Estrada ‘12, Ariel Guzman ‘12, and Jose Carrera ‘12 Highlighted in Chicago Soccer Magazine! http://www.lamaquinadeportiva.com/portal/wp-content/themes/streamline_30/pdf/week%2034%20eng%20CHICAGO%20SOCCER.pdf (Article can be found on page 3 and below) EXCEPTIONAL INNOVATIVE FAMILY The St. Joseph High School soccer team has a great year ahead of them. The 2011 season is full of tough competition and new opponents. St. Joseph recently joined the Pepsi Showdown and will host the first round of the tournament on September 6th against Downers Grove North. They will also continue to play in the Windy City Tournament at Reavis High School and hope to make it back to Toyota Park to battle for the championship once again. Ruben Estrada, Ariel Guzman, and Jose Carrera have been training and improving to help lead the Chargers to success over the last three years. The three captains have been on varsity for three years and play for the F.C. Drive and the Chicago Magic U.S. Soccer Development Academy. From the start they have shown plenty of experience and knowledge of the game as well as a winning attitude throughout the St. Joseph community. They have worked hard to keep the winning tradition of St. Joseph alive and continue to strive for excellence not only on the soccer field but also in the classroom. Ruben Estrada: “This year I plan on being a leader to the team, I plan to push myself to be better, and to ask the best of all of us. I love this team not only for the hard work we put in as teammates but also because I see them as brothers. We will win as many games as we can and learn to be the best team we can be throughout the year.” Ariel Guzman: “I came to St. Joseph for a great education and found a great soccer program. Our coach helps us reach our goals and the faculty at St. Joseph supports us on and off the field. I would not want to be anywhere else and with the heart the team has shown through preseason training the possibilities are endless for this coming season.” Jose Carrera: “I have high hopes for the upcoming season and for the team. As a captain I want to keep the guys disciplined and working towards our goals of winning conference and state. We see ourselves as a great team that needs to work to push each other to be better. In all things, I believe in my teammates and know that I can count on them to accomplish everything we set our minds to this season.” Congratulations, Ruben, Ariel and Jose! St. Joseph High School Twinned With St. Joseph School in Africa The “Twinning Program” is a Christian Brother mission program whereby each of the Lasallian schools in the USA are twinned with a Lasallian school in Africa. For the past 7 years, St. Joseph High School has been twinned with St. Joseph School in Nazareth, Ethiopia (Africa). The Mission of the twinning schools is to collect funds to support the students in need. Every Wednesday during homeroom at St. Joseph High School, students collect money to support their twin school in Africa. After 7 years of participation, Chargers have contributed over $41,000 to their twin! A little about our Twin…. St. Joseph School is located in the eastern part of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. It was established in 1958 and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008. The school offers primary and secondary education from kindergarten to grade 12 and has about 1,030 students. The school needs a lot of attention. There are a good number of students who are not able to pay their school fee. Therefore, the school covers their tuition. Students pay $110 each school year. The fee does not go beyond the teachers salary. P.O. Box 406, Nazareth, Ethiopia * Phone: +251 (22) 1112737 E-mail: [email protected] Last Wednesday, our Chargers raised $113.31! Our students never cease to amaze!
