leveling, roll stiffness adjustment, active and semiactive ride control, wheel hop damping and control,
and yaw control.
The Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CES)
responds to customer demand for a suspension system
that differentiates vehicles by providing superior
vehicle handling without compromising ride comfort.
CES was first commercialized on the 2003 Volvo S60R and V70R performance
vehicles offering sport car handling with luxury sedan comfort.
CES is a semi-active suspension system that continuously adjusts damping levels according to road and
driving conditions. At the heart of the CES is an
advanced valve system, developed with Öhlins Racing.
The valves – integrated with an electronic controller
and chassis sensors – work together to deliver the
most advanced damping characteristics.
Our Acceleration Sensitive
Damping (ASD) shock
absorber solves the
challenge of delivering both a soft, comfortable ride
and firm vehicle handling. The award-winning ASD
technology is a mechanical valve system that
instantaneously changes damping force to adjust
vehicle ride to bumps and changes in the road surface.
Monotube shock absorbers –
single tube high-pressure
gas shocks – offer enhanced vehicle
stability and handling with design features that
provide more mounting options and higher damping levels
compared with similar sized twin tube shocks.
The innovation of ASD has
eliminated compromise –
vehicles are tuned
for handling without
increasing harshness.
The MAD (Micro-Amplitude Damping)
technology is a position sensitive
hydraulic circuit designed to
eliminate the energy transfer
caused by tire imbalances.
This circuit is engineered
to directly react to the
displacement of the shock
absorber.
Frequency Dependent Damping is a next generation
shock absorber. It is environmentally friendly – uses
no oil – and minimizes the compromise between ride
and handling. A frequency dependent damping shock
absorber can be mounted in any position and has a
more consistent damping performance over a wide
range of temperatures.
12
Our hydroelastic body mounts are
capable of producing very high
damping at one frequency.
