The Vespiary Book Restoration & Bindery, founded in 2007 is
committed to the conservation, preservation, and proliferation
of paper based materials, especially in Montana and the
Mountain West. Audra strives to provide the best services for
both individuals and institutions, including repair, rehousing,
custom binding, education, and preservation consultation.
Located in Missoula, Montana, Audra Loyal offers a wide range of book and paper conservation services.
Even the simplest book can be a treasured heirloom, worthy of care, a conduit to ancestors and times
past. Audra will consult with you on how best to restore, repair, and maintain the integrity of your
treasured items. With over 10 years in the preservation profession, The Vespiary has been operating
since 2007, serving individuals, libraries, archives, museums, historical societies and more.
I’ve always loved the aspect of books that lets you enter into communication with the past and with those who came before. These artifacts act as
treasure chests of nostalgia for people, places, points in time, emotions, and
ideas. It’s satisfying to me to know that I am helping people take care of

Through the Humanities Montana Speaker’s Bureau, Audra is available to your institution, group,
or club to present her 90-minute lecture, "The Enduring Book: Evolution of an Elegant Technology."

Through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at
UM (MOLLI), Audra offers her 6-week lecture,
entitled "Book as Technology: Bookbinding and the
Evolution of the Book."
Other lectures and demonstrations include basic
book repair, and the future of books. Contact Audra

Interested in learning how to make books? The
Vespiary offers a number of stand-alone classes
that walk students thru the steps of specific book
structures, including Japanese stab-binding, Coptic,
long-stitch, Blizzard books, Belgian binding and
more. Groups can either attend on-site at the workshop in Missoula, or call Audra to arrange an offsite training near you. One-on-one instruction is
also available at an hourly charge.
For institutions looking to train staff or volunteers in conservation,
multiple day in-services are available which include repair procedure
instruction, workflow manage ment, and workstation setup.
