This week I would like to update the community
on the progress (very gradual!) of our most
ambitious capital project ever, the conversion of
the Matignon Convent into a classroom building.

England
The proverb, "Rome was not built in a day" or
"Rome ne s'est pas faite en un jour," is common
to both English and
French, and that Eternal-City wisdom surely
applies to our current situation.
Last summer we began discussions with Matignon High School and the

3rd Graders at the
Plimoth Plantation
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston (the latter owns the property, but
we are subleasing through Matignon H.S.), and we had hoped to sign a 20year lease several months ago. As it has turned out, the finalization of the
lease has taken longer than anticipated, but we do think it will be signed
very soon. However, back in early February, during the only really cold
weekend of the winter, the majority of the radiators and many of the heating
pipes in the empty building froze and burst. The Archdiocese covered the
damages, but the repairs took quite a few weeks, which has led to similar
delays in getting bids from contractors, applying for permits, etc.
Before these delays occurred, we had hoped, if all went well on a timeline
that was already tight, to be able to open our new classroom annex for the
start of school in September. Unfortunately, this will no longer be possible,
since we are now several months behind our original schedule. But, albeit
with some delay, we will in due course complete the renovation of the first
and second floors (what can be thought of as Phase One of the project).
As mentioned in earlier messages, these floors will be the new home for
grades 4 and 5, complete with their own science room. Their move to the
annex will free up six large rooms in our main building, for use by grades in
the Middle and Upper Schools. Two other levels in the annex - the
basement and the third floor - will eventually be renovated as well in what
could be thought of as Phase Two, depending on our needs and on
funding. (If you see a hint in that last word, you would not be mistaken!)
For a closer look at what the finished rooms will look like, complete with
renderings by the architectural firm of Maryann Thompson and Associates,
I invite you to follow this link. And if you should feel inclined to add your
support to this project, so much the better! We are still about $73,000 short

We would like to congratulate all of our students who took the Kangarou
math test, and in particular, those who received high honors. There is no
specific training in class for that contest. The student have to apply their
math knowledge and critical thinking skills in a different way. Therefore, we
are very pleased with their results and would like to thank them for their
hard work in math during the school year. The photo shows the students
who ranked in the top 1% worldwide, and their math teachers.
