Soil testing is the basis for what we should develop our program from. We have always said that we
should be growing the soil and not the turf. A good soil test is the road map to success in the turf industry.
It will give you the needed inputs to adjust the soil chemistry so the plant can have the proper nutrition
available to it when it needs it. You will find that a well-balanced soil will weather the summer heat and
drought conditions better than a poorly balanced soil. Therefore it is imperative to “soil test”.
Turf Trade works exclusively with Logan Labs and we have been successful with their results. Testing is
simple. There is no bag cost. Simply ask your Sales Representative for the bags and the information sheet.
The soil samples will need to be mailed to the lab at the address on the information sheet. Once the
samples have been sent the results will be emailed back to your representative and he or she will review
the results and supply recommendations to adjust your soil. If you have any questions as to how to take

We’ve Improved Zeta Plex Fertilizers with the addition of
Natural Plant Derived L-Amino Acids
Presenting Dual Amino Acid Technology
L-Amino18
Improved performance of
nutrients and chemcials
•
•
Zeta Plex Amino Polymer acts to complex with nutrients allowing greater nutrient availability for foliar and root uptake. It extends the
liquid phase of solution further, increasing nutrient uptake.
L-18 Amino Acid Technology provides immediately available L-amino acids to improve photosynthesis and plant stress tolerance. Lamino acids are effective nutrient chelators for improved fertilizer uptake. Performance of Herbicides, PGR’s and other products is
enhanced.
Natural L-Amino Acids Extracted from Soy Plants
Because L-18 Amino Acid Technology utilizes natural L-amino acids extracted directly from soybean plant tissue, these amino acids are most
suitable for uptake and utilization by plants. Our comprehensive package includes appropriate ratios of amino acids. Therefore, the plant is more
likely to insert specific amino acids into precise metabolic functions with the least amount of effort.

What is Improved Zeta Plex?
Zeta Plex Nutrient Technology is the combination of two distinct and powerful amino acid packages: Zeta Plex
and L-Amino Technologies. The Zeta Plex Polymer and has always been utilized in EnP Products. It
complexes with nutrients to increase plant uptake, improve fertilizer performance and allow the turf manager to
maximize nutrient inputs. L-Amino Technology is a naturally derived soybean based package. This dual amino
acid technology works to further increase uptake and provide healthier turf.
New Zeta Plex Amino
The exclusive L-amino acid package is derived from the enzyme hydrolysis of soybean plants, resulting in
100% L-amino acids of the highest integrity. L-amino acids derived from plant matter provide a highly
consistent source of 18 primary amino acids. The result is a balance of naturally amino acids in the most
suitable ratios for plant health.
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
L-18 Amino Acids are easily absorbed by living plants.
Utilization of L-18 Amino Acids allows the plant to conserve ATP energy and apply that energy towards
other metabolic processes.
This conservation of energy is key to allowing turf to maintain stored carbohydrates thus reducing root
decline.
L-18 Amino Acids contain an abundance of amino acids specific to increasing plant photosynthesis. This
helps plants become even more energy efficient leading to better overall health.
L-18 Amino Acids are used by the plant to create protein.
Proteins have structural, metabolic and transport functions.
Proteins provide a storehouse of amino acids for timely plant use.
Proteins make almost all enzymes which catalyze all biochemical reactions within the plant.
L-18 Amino Acids provide the plant with effective cell protectants which allow the plant to maintain
viability during periods of heat, drought, salt and other environmental stresses.
What Makes Them Work
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
L-Tryptophan is a building block for auxin production in the plant. It allows the plant to effectively
manufacture this vital plant hormone.
L-Glycine is a natural chelator of positively charged nutrients acting to increase plant uptake of many
micronutrients. It is also a positive stimulator of photosynthesis.
L-Proline, L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Serine are osmotic protectants which execute operations within
individual cells to maintain osmotic balance and proper cell functioning during stress. Important for
increasing tolerance to drought, salt and heat stress.
L-Aspartic acid and L-Glutamic acid are important components for building and metabolizing most other
amino acids.
L-Lysince, L-Glutamic acid, L-Alanine, L-Proline are involved in chlorophyll production and increasing
photosynthesis.
L-Histidine, L-Alanine, L-Methionine, L-Proline are important for properstomatal functions.
L-Aspartic Acid, L-Valine, hasten seed germination
L-Valine, L-Tyrosine, L-Theronine, L-Lysine, L-Alanine increases plant tolerance to drought stress.

Seeding Rates Review
As always ask your Sales Representative for seeding rates on the various mixtures so you get the proper
germination and coverage you desire. In general there are two seeding rates which would apply. The first
is bare ground or new seeding which would be a higher rate than for a general interseeding rate which is
the second of the two. To determine a good over seeding rate you will need to access the total coverage.
Be sure to discuss this issue with your representative before ordering to get the correct rate and amount.
RELIANT is a systemic fungicide which has
both xylem and phloem mobility, in that it
will move systemic throughout all parts of
plants. It will move from plant roots into the
newly emerging shoots and conversely from
new shoots into the root system.
RELIANT is absorbed by all plant tissue
regardless of where it is applied and is
directly fungistatic, in that it slows the
growth of the disease pathogen and inhibits
the formation of new spores by the
pathogen.
When absorbed by the plant RELIANT
directly effects plant metabolism by
stimulating the production of ATP and ADP
along with the defensive response of
accumulation of phytoalexins (immune
bodies) similar to that in humans. These
phytoalexins enhance the activity of the
plant's dynamic defense system, causing
rapid changes within the cells of lytic
enzymes, thickening of cell walls, higher cell
pressure and lignification to occur within the
cell.

other recreation activities, while minimal irrigation restrictions allow Clearcast
to be applied in a large variety of aquatic environments, including golf course
ponds and irrigation canals and ditches.
We are dealers of the Trimec branded herbicides. Please ask your sales
representative to review the use of Trimec classic, TrimecBentgrass, Trimec 637, Trimec 992, Speedzone,

Sprayer Calibration and Spreader Settings
CALIBRATING A BACKPACK SPRAYER.
What you will need: Measuring tape, Graduated measuring jar, Watch that counts seconds (to help ensure
consistent walking speed), calculator, pencil & pad. Accuracy is important here!
1. Fill the sprayer at least half full with a known amount of WATER.
2. Spray a pre-measured area (1,000 sq. ft. for example) at the same pace you would in the field. Do
not overlap swaths.
3. Keeping track of how much water you use, refill the sprayer to the known mark. Write down how
much water it took to refill the sprayer. This number equals the amount of spray applied per 1,000
sq. ft. 1 gallon = 16 cups. Repeat these steps two or three times to get an average.
4. Plug your averaged numbers into the formula.
Label rate in ounces / 1,000 sq. ft. = Number of ounces of pesticide to add per gallon of water /
Refill volume in gallons/ 1,000 sq. ft.
CALIBRATING YOUR SPRAYER ACCURATELY

6. Start a distance back from the beginning of the course to get up to operating speed, and turn

How to Measure Land Area
3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon
2 tablespoons = 1 ounce
128 fluid ounces = 1 gallon
32 fluid ounces = 1 quart
1 acre = .4047 hectares
2.471 acres = 1 hectare
10 acres = 4.047 hectare
.381 sq miles or 247 acres =
100 hectares / 1 sq. kilometer
Area of a Square or Rectangle:
Formula : Length x Width
Example: 50’x 100’ = 5000 sq. ft.
16 fluid ounces = 1 pint
2 pints = 1 quart
4 quarts = 1 gallon
1square mile = 259 hectares
1 square kilometer = 100 hectares
Area of Triangle:
Formula: .5 base x height
Example:.5x50’=25x100
=2500 sq. ft.
Area of Circle :
Formula: A = π(3.14) x 25ft.x
25ft.
=A x 25ft.²
= 625 ft.²

Irregularly shaped land areas can usually be reduced
to one or more geometric shapes (square / rectangle,
triangle and circle). Use the appropriate formula for
each part or the irregular turf area and calculate the
area of each shape. Next add the calculated areas of
each shape. Next add the calculated areas of each
shape together. This gives you a very accurate area
to use in your spray calculations.
See above calculation to aid in your land area total.
