Colon Quito ECUADOR Quito, Ecuador - Comision Fulbright del Ecuador Program Highlights Fulbright Grants for Foreign (Ecuadorian) Students and Scholars The selection of Fulbright Scholars in Ecuador is based on a national open competition and academic and professional excellence. Candidates will be considered without respect to ethnicity, religion, national origin, and gender. Country Statistics Number of students in the US (IIE Open Doors Report from 2009): 2,268 Percent change from previous year: 5.4% Percent of students that are: Undergraduate: 59.4% Graduate: 26.3% Other: 14.3% Academic Calendar / Major Holidays / Best Times to Visit Grants are highly competitive. The strict academic criteria used is as demanding as the criteria established by U.S. universities, including sufficient proficiency of English, so that candidates admitted to a post graduate program receive the necessary financial aid. All applicants must have a university degree. Applications are restricted to Ecuadorian citizens, residing in Ecuador during the complete process. Candidates holding dual Ecuadorian-U.S.citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status are not eligible. Grants are not open to Ecuadorians who are currently studying, researching or teaching in the United States. As the Fulbright Program provides an educational exchange experience to citizens who have not had such opportunity, preference will be given to those candidates who have not had extensive recent experience in the United States.
