Mitchell threw the first punches and was darting out lefts
and trying to get home with his right. Arreola was stalking
and looking to bring his own right into play. The first time
Arreola managed to catch Mitchell cleanly with a right
virtually finished the fight. Mitchell’s legs were wobbling from
that punch and he never recovered. Another right had him
staggering and he clutched Arreola around the waist and
teetered across the ring before going down to the canvas
himself and almost pulling Arreola down with him. The
referee did not count it as a knockdown as Mitchell looked
to have fallen from being off balance. However, Mitchell was
still very shaky and the second time Mitchell went down it
was from another right hand bomb from Arreola. Mitchell
got up but he was taking shots on the ropes and half turned
away causing the referee to stop the fight after just 2:26
of the first round. 32-year-old Arreola makes it 36-3, 31 KOs
and wins Mitchell’s WBC International title.

Dmytro Kucher (now 21-0-0/15) widely outpointed Julio Cesar Dos Santos (now 22-2-0/20) from Brazil to win
the vacant WBC International Cruiserweight title. The fight took place in Kiev (Ukraine) on March 21st 2013. Elite
Boxing Promotion promoted the show.
Dmytro fought in Montecarlo last July 13th for the WBC World SILVER vacant belt and lost a
Majority Decision over 12 hard rounds to Junior Makabu.
Dmytro has been confirmed by the Committee as the reigning WBC International champion.
After Mateusz Masternak decided to relinquish this belt on
voluntary basis, a fight for the vacant title took place last
September 7 in Glasgow, Scotland. Eddie Hearn of
Matchroom promoted. Unbeaten contenders Stephen
Simmons and David Graf faced each other in Glasgow for
the vacant belt.
Ringside report Good win for Simmons over unbeaten Armenian
born Graf. Simmons made slow start and Graf took the first
round. In the second Simmons was in charge and he had the
German-based fighter hurt with a right. It was more of the
same in the third with Simmons dominant. Graf had some
success in the fourth but near the end of the round a right
from Simmons put Graf down. The bell came before
Simmons could follow-up his advantage. In the fifth a clash of
heads left Simmons with a bad cut over his left eye. Both men
fought hard over the closing rounds with Simmons getting
through with hard shots.
Good win for Simmons which wins the
vacant WBC International Silver title. The 29-year old Scot competed
at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships and the European
Championships and won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth
Games. The 24-year old Graf put up a good performance but was well
beaten.

Smith won the vacant WBC International title
in Sheffield and must have felt he was working
overtime after six first round victories in a
row. Acosta had only lost inside the distance
twice before to Anthony Mundine and in a
WBO title challenge against Robert Stieglitz.
Smith controlled the fight with a strong jab
pressurising Acosta and looking for an
opening to end the fight early. Acosta
absorbed good shots but proved elusive.
It was the sixth round before Smith found the
punch to end the contest.
A left hook to the body put Acosta down.
The Argentinian got to his feet but after a few
more choice shots from Smith another body
punch put Acosta down again for the KO.
It was 1 min. 20 secs in round six.
The 23-year-old 6’3” (191cm) Smith wins the
vacant WBC International title and makes it 7
wins in a row by KO/TKO. Acosta, 35, gave
Smith more work in one night than 5 of the
last 6 of Smith’s opponents, so he did his job.

Heiland wins dramatic fight which sees both fighters on the floor.
Godoy took an early lead as Heiland made his usual slow start. Godoy
was working well with the jab and floored Heiland in the third.
Southpaw Heiland started rolling in the fifth and sixth scoring well
with hard lefts. In the seventh a right cross from Heiland had Godoy
down, Godoy was badly shaken and only just survived the round.
Heiland had the upper hand in the eighth and ninth, but Godoy
battled back to take the tenth making good use of his jab. After an
even eleventh , both fighters came out firing for the last knowing that
the fight was in the balance. Heiland ended it with a tremendous left
cross which sent Godoy to the canvas. The defending champion made
it to his feet but was still shaken and the referee completed the ten
count. Huge win for the 26-year-old “El Gaucho de Pigue” as he
rebounds from a loss to Mateo Veron in June. The former WBC Interim
title challenger (he lost on points to Sebastian Zbik in 2010) wins the
WBC International title and rejuvenates his career.
Former champion Billi “The Kid” , 27, is still national champion, but
dropped down from his previous No 5 place to 17.

Emanuele Della Rosa had relinquished this belt on voluntary basis last August 2.
The highly anticipated match up between the undefeated Julian “J-Rock” Williams (13-0-1,
7KOs) and Oxnard, CA’s Hugo “The Boss” Centeño (19-0, 10KOs) ended in the fourth round
after Centeño suffered a cut . Golden Boy Promotion staged this vacant Championship fight last
September 12 at the Premier Ballroom , MGM Grand Conference Center , Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
A mild upset as Williams built an early lead and seemed to be on his way to a big win as he took all three
completed rounds. Unfortunately a clash of heads left Williams with a slight cut and Centeño with a worse
cut on the left side of his face. Centeño could not continue and the WBC International title remains vacant.
Both the 22-year-old Centeño and the 23-year-old William remain unbeaten and hopefully will meet again
for the title…..
Williams, who in his last fight dropped the much more experienced Joachim Alcine three times en route to
a unanimous decision win, was in control from the get-go as he applied effective and constant pressure to
the always moving Centeño. With the first three rounds won by Williams, a headbutt opened up a slight
cut over the left eye of Centeño. The ringside doctor immediately checked him and , after some
evaluation, referee Jay Nady decided to stop the fight.
The WBC records this result as a Technical Draw round four. Time was 0:59
The bout was scheduled for ten and it was for the WBC International 154 lbs. vacant title.

El encuentro protagonizado por Juan Carlos
Salgado y el juarense Miguel “Mickey” Román en
la disputa del título Internacional Plata ligero del
Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (WBC) fue un espléndido
combate que escenificaron ambos púgiles, pues desde
el inicio salieron con lo mejor de su artillería, cada uno tratando de
imponer su planes pelea; mientras Salgado se mantenía con potentes
golpes rectos que le permitían conservar su distancia, el “Mickey”
buscaba vulnerar la guardia del capitalino en la corta distancia.
La pelea poco a poco se fue ensuciando, pues ambos trataban a como
diera lugar de imponer su estilo, mientras Román no cedía un plano de
terreno, pues se sabía abajo en las puntuaciones de los jueces
arrancando la segunda mitad del combate.
Una verdadera guerra resultó el combate entre este par de valientes, de
estilos tan opuestos que se prestaron para el espectáculo, en un duelo
que mantuvo a los miles de aficionados a la expectativa, siempre
apoyando a su favorito. El final de la pelea fue trepidante, Román se
Lanzó con todo al ataque al saber que los segundos parciales del jurado
no le favorecían, con golpes curvos arrinconó al espigado Salgado en las
cuerdas, hasta mandarlo a la lona con un poderoso envío; del
cual no logró recuperarse y el referee determinó que Salgado no estaba
en condiciones de continuar con la refriega al 1:42 del onceavo
capítulo, provocando que estallara el júbilo en el graderío.
Con esta victoria Román Portillo se adjudicó el cinturón Internacional
Plata de peso ligero que avala el Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (WBC) y
seguramente dará un salto exponencial en las clasificaciones del
organismo. Al final de la contienda, el valeroso fronterizo anunció que
quiere medirse con el actual campeón mundial interino de peso liviano;
el norteamericano Omar Figueroa (22-0, 17 KO’s).

INTERNATIONAL TITLE
Filipino southpaw Ryan Sermona has won the
WBC International super featherweight title with
a 4th round knockout of Australia’s defending
champion Matt Garlett at the Metro City
Thunderdome in Perth, Western Australia.
The fight took place on Friday 6, December
2013.
The 26 year old Sermona, nicknamed “The
Crusher” , improved his record to 16-4 with 9
knockouts while the 28 year old Garlett dropped
to 11-2 with 6 knockouts.
Garlett had won the title with a 12th round
unanimous decision over South Africa’s Sipho
Taliwe last May 16 after dropping Taliwe in the
fourth round.
Sermona earlier won the Philippine title with a
5th round technical decision over former world
title challenger Balweg Bangoyan on March 16
this year.

Sermona (Philippines) took the title by a comprehensive knockout of Garlett (Australia) at 2' 25'' of the fourth
round. The "finisher" was a perfectly-timed straight left from the southpaw, thrown after a right-hand lead.
Garlett won the three completed rounds on all scorecards.
Each of these frames was tightly contested - by no means a "cakewalk" for the defending champion.
Pattern of the fight was Garlett using his slightly superior speed to try to dictate terms as the hard-punching
challenger attempted to work to close range.
Garlett in the first round accentuated movement to the left to try to unsettle his southpaw opponent.
Sermona worked hard all the way.
One had the feeling at the end of the third round that this would would not go the distance if both combatants
applied the same pressure - someone had to fold. Same pattern in the fourth, with Sermona's continuing pressure,
until the abrupt end.
To me the fight earns a "good" rating on the WBC scale ranging from poor, fair, good to very good.
The work by referee Gary Ingraham was exemplary:
efficient, in control throughout, always (when possible) on the "open" side in this southpaw-orthodox bout.
Judges' work was competent, all scoring the three completed rounds for Garlett.
The local government body, the Professional Combat Sports Commission, was cooperative and helpful, kindly
agreeing to virtually all WBC requirements. Key person here was Greg McGuire, supported by Tracey Beckwith and
other commission officers. Ringside physician Dr Paddy Golden was very efficient in his work and accommodated
the WBC's needs.
The show was telecast live on RCTI to Indonesia and several other countries, including Africa.
Also, the card was recorded by Fox Sports Australia for screening at a later date.

Smith wins but “Rocky” Medina gives him a hard time for five
rounds. The Argentinian was aggressive and throwing bombs
early making things uncomfortable for Smith and edging the first
round. Smith was working the body and bounced back to take
the second and third rounds being more accurate with his
punches. The fourth and fifth saw both fighters landing with
good punches but Smith got on top in the sixth. Medina was
tiring and spitting out his mouthpiece to get some respite. Smith
continued the pressure in the seventh with Medina losing a
point for a head butt. “Swifty” closed the fight in the eighth with
a left hook to the body which sent Medina down and he could
not get up. Smith,28, wins the vacant WBC International Silver
title and makes it 6 wins in a row, 5 inside the distance, since
moving up to super feather, and those wins have seen him rise
to WBC 11 and WBO 13. Fourth loss by KO/TKO for 31-year-old
Argentinian Medina rated No 4 feather by the FAB. He had also
lost inside the distance in high profile fights against Daniel Ponce
De Leon and Juan Manuel Lopez-a 98 seconds blowout in a
challenge for the WBO super bantam title.

are too much for the game former Spanish
super bantam champion. Slowey had some
quick success as he scored a flash
knockdown in the first, but from then on
Lorente never again looked in real trouble.
The Glasgow southpaw was winning the
early rounds with his speed and accuracy.
Lorente came into the fight more in the
middle rounds but neither fighter possessed
the power to hurt the other and despite
some close rounds Slowey was a clear
winner. Scores 99-90, 98-91 and 97-92.
Slowey, 22, wins the vacant WBC
International Silver title but is still looking for
his first inside the distance win as a pro. He
was Scottish amateur champion in 2009 and
2010.

This letter officially notifies Adbul Barry Awad a/k/a Kid Galahad that, effective on the date of this letter, the WBC International Championships Committee (the
“Committee”) has voted unanimously to vacate the WBC International Superbantamweight Champion title that Kid Galahad held.
The Committee’s decision has been made pursuant to the WBC governing rules, particularly Article III – Championship Obligations; subsection 3.1 - Timing of Defenses,
and 3.2 Recognition Subject to Forfeit.

Kid Galahad won the vacant WBC International Superbantamweight title on 18 February 2012 (WUD12 Jason Booth).
Kid Galahad made his first WBC International title defence on 12 May 2012 to retain his belt against Josh Wale by TKO9.
After his first title defence, Kid Galahad fought three more bouts but his WBC International belt has not been at stake since May 2012 up to date.
In his last fight, Kid Galahad fought for the vacant British title and won it against compatriot James Dickens. That happened on 14 September 2013,
last week in Great Britain.
Undoubtedly, the WBC has supported Kid Galahad’s career. The WBC considers him to be an excellent fighter and good prospect. However, it is also clear that Kid
Galahad’s failure to defend the WBC International Superbantamweight title has resulted in the title becoming frozen, thus depriving other deserving contenders from
the opportunity to fight for that prestigious green and gold international crown.
As you know, I, on behalf of the Committee, have written you and other interested parties several times prompting Kid Galahad to defend its WBC International title.
In fact, I personally met Kid Galahad in Hull last July and cordially spoke to him, reminding him that it was time for him to make a title defence in short terms.
But to date, the WBC has not yet received any guarantee regarding a possible WBC International title defence for Kid Galahad.
It is regrettable that it has become necessary to vacate the title.
We wish Kid Galahad the best of luck in his future endeavors.

mochiteco Hugo "Increíble" Cázares retuvo el cetro
Internacional Plata supergallo del Consejo Mundial de
Boxeo (WBC) y se mantuvo en el primer lugar de las
clasificaciones del organismo al derrotar al valiente Julio
César "Pingo" Miranda tras doce asaltos.
Luego del tradicional round de estudio, ambos se fueron con todo al ataque; el
trepidante tercer giro presagiaba lo que sería el resto del combate. Un choque de trenes
protagonizaron desde el inicio de la reyerta, hasta el campanazo final; con un Hugo
Cázares que manejaba a la perfección los dos perfiles ante un "Pingo" que siempre
buscaba la iniciativa y llegó a conectar golpes que levantaron a los aficionados de sus
butacas. El combate fue de alternativas, con el "Pingo" volcado al frente sobre uno de los
más elusivos púgiles del mundo, quien impuso su buen boxeo para vencer a uno de los
más peligrosos retadores que hay actualmente en la baraja boxística mundial.
Al final, los jueces dieron puntuaciones finales de 116-112, 114-114 y 115-114, con lo
que el doble campeón del mundo, se adjudicó una victoria importantísima que sin lugar
a dudas lo pone en la antesala de la disputa del título absoluto.

Gandara made the better start building a lead over the first three rounds scoring well with hard rights.
In the fourth a right from Morales put Gandara down and that proved important in the final decision.
Morales was just edging the fight with both fighters showing respect for the others punch power.
In the ninth Gandara scored heavily and Morales struggled to survive.
Gandara also took the last round but just came up agonizingly short.
Scores 95-94 from all three judges and that fourth round 10-8 round making the difference.
“Nino Maravilla”, 23, the brother of Erik, retains his WBC International Silver belt and his WBC No 12.
Gandara, 25, had won 8 of his last 9 fights and came real close to making it 9 out of 10.

El primer asalto fue un clásico round de estudio, ninguno
arriesgó de más.
En el segundo, Gándara tomó la iniciativa, logró colocar varios
golpes, sobre todo de derecha, que Iván pudo asimilar.
En el tercero, Morales permanecía a la defensiva esperando los
embates de Gándara y contraatacando con combinaciones
arriba y abajo.
En el cuarto, una derecha de Gándara sorprende a Morales
que por poco se va a la lona. Pero segundos después, un recto
de derecha de Morales sí manda a Gándara al tapiz.

Joyi puts himself back into the title picture as he
outclasses Filipino Alolod to win the WBC International
title. It was amazing that Alolod made it into the
ninth round as Joyi was handing out a beating. Joyi
scored heavily in ever round, but Alolod showed guts
and a good chin. Joyi finally ended it in the ninth as
he landed a barrage of punches which put Alolod down
and out.
The 30-year-old Joyi had been an outstanding IBF
strawweight champion but was being weakened by
making the weight and he lost his IBF title to Mario
Rodriguez in September last year and lost a split decision
to Hekkie Budler for the IBO straw title in June. He will
be a threat again at light fly. Southpaw “Bulldozer”
Alolod, 22, had not lost inside the distance before
this fight.
He had lost only one of his last 15 fights, that was to
Rey Loreto, who last month beat former world champion
Pornsawan, and Alolod reversed that loss.
He was OPBF No 1, so in theory a tough test for Joyi.
Golden Gloves South Africa has informed the WBC
that Joyi Nkosinathi will fight on Saturday 1
February 2014 at the Salle des etoiles, Monte Carlo,
Monaco, against Philippines’ Rey Loreto.
That fight will be for another organization.
Therefore, the WBC International Lightflyweight
belt will soon be declared vacant.

Wanheng has always been a WBC fighter.
He started with WBC Youth, to then
become a WBC International Interim
champion, WBC International Silver and
currently a WBC International Strawweight title holder.
In 2013 Wanheng already made two
successful title defenses.
The most recent last August 30 in Choburi
(Thailand) against Japan’s Yuma Iwahashi
(WUD12).

WBC International Championships
With 27 years of many outstanding WBC International Championships and many great fights
that have taken place, it is now very clear that this success would never have been achieved
without proper direction and good control of the international boxing scenario both from a
technical and ethical point of view. This great success could never have been earned without the
participation of the worldwide boxing community. We are today very proud of the superb
standards we have set. But, that doesn’t mean we are complacent. We want to do more work
and achieve more. We want to discover further productive areas and unearth many more great
champions. There is no doubt that we have set standards for other sanctioning bodies, to help
promote this great sport of ours.
It is also very clear now that only the WBC, with its outstanding organization and unity, could
have established this revolutionary and innovative programme, which has helped promote and
develop boxing in the world. This great innovation to boxing took place in the beautiful city of
Aruba during the 1986 Annual Convention we held, amid the noise of the rolling waves and
hundreds of tourists. The first country to promote a WBC International Championship was
Thailand, on 10th December 1986, when mexican Raul Valdez stopped in four rounds Rocky
Chitalada to win the bantamweight belt in Bangkok. Since then, we have set out to many
wonderful lands and staged out sensational fights, plus promotional activity. The WBC flag has
fluttered all around the world, it has been raised in many wonderful sites and in several new
venues. What beneficts have the WBC International Championships brought to the world and
how has it helped boxing ? How have fighters who are the leaders of our great sport benefited ?
The WBC International Championships have been a boon to boxing because they have helped
spot new talents, brought out new fighters who would never have seen the light of the day for
years if not for this great talent-spotting championship. In other words it has been a great
stepping stone tournament for many boxers to reach stardom. This innovative activity has helped
create great champions. The WBC International Championships have helped promoters and
managers all over the world. It has guided them in the right direction and placed them on a
platform of progress.
This outstanding championship has showcased rising stars who, under normal circumstances,
would have been hidden for years, without any opportunity to forge ahead. This unique event
has helped the growth of several fighters who were denied in the past of excelling in boxing and
have been forced to remain hidden due to lack of opportunities. Like me, I am sure, many are
aware that several young fighters we see in our midst have surfaced because of these
championships.
As Chairman of the WBC International Championships Committee I am naturally happy that we
have so many top world champions who have blossomed from the WBC International
Championships ranks. They have thus opened the doors for others to follow through the
beautiful example they have set. Yes, the WBC has indeed taken a revolutionary step by
launching the International Championships activity which has been productive, revolutionary and
has been a great boon to boxing.
We must thank our President Don José Sulaiman Chagnón for having come up with this brilliant
idea. Our President has always been a man of broad views who has devoted his life for the
good of boxing.

The WBC International Championships were created by President José Sulaiman in
Aruba in 1986, during our annual Convention.
Att. Antonio Sciarra was appointed as Chairman of the Committee.
Antonio was indeed a very close friend of Don José and, like brothers, they were often
fighting against each other.
In 1993 I was attending the WBC Annual Convention in Las Vegas, while Antonio did
not come because seriously ill.
I was suddenly reached by a phone call from Rome to be sadly informed that Antonio
had passed away.
While informing the General Assembly that Antonio had passed away, President
Sulaiman appointed me as new Chairman.
Antonio was for me like a second father.
I am still missing him very much.

I will be forever grateful to Antonio and to Don José and I must consider myself a lucky man
for having met them during my life.
I have known President Sulaiman since 1982. This year I will celebrate my 26th consecutive
WBC Annual Convention.
After giving me the great honor to inherit the office of Antonio as Chairman of the Committee
back in 1993, Don José appointed me as member of the WBC Ratings Committee during the
WBC Annual Convention held in 1998 in Johannesburg (South Africa).
In 2004, during the annual Convention in Pukhet, I entered the WBC Board of Governors as
International Secretary.
Back in 1981 ( I was only 25 ) I started working for boxing at the Italian Olympic Committee
in Rome. It was there that I met Antonio and started working for professional boxing. Antonio
introduced me to the WBC the following year, when the WBC Annual Convention was held in
Venice, Italy. Since that, I have always been a WBC man.

The 2011 WBC International activity was very successful, indeed.
In 2011 we decided to start with the “Silver Belt” championships in order to replace the old
Interim title bouts. At the 2011 Annual Convention in Las Vegas, President Sulaiman openly
congratulated the Committee for the outstanding results achieved.
Yours truly was awarded the prestigious “ The Most Valuable 2011 Player” prize at the
Convention In Vegas. The 2012 season is going to turn out even more successful.
Personal thoughts:
Today is always more and more difficult to meet the
demands that the world of professional boxing
requires us daily. The World Boxing Council has
always done its best to support the boxing community.
This remains an indisputable fact, indeed.
Too often today envy and arrogance dominate the world and it is not to be considered a
rarity to see how easily the mud is thrown on the face of possible opponents or competitors
by those who have nothing to do with ethics and good faith.
This happens today and it is something we should fight with all our strength to defend
the credibility of our Sport.
Fortunately, the World Boxing Council community has always remained united, even in
times of great difficulty as when we saw the world collapsing during the amazing
“Rocchigiani case”.
Thanks to the personality and the wisdom of President Don José Sulaiman , together
with the great unity of current Board members, the nightmare is now over and the sky is
clear again in the WBC planet.
Remarks
It is indeed important to remind that, during the above mentioned amazing period,
Graziano Rocchigiani did fight for the WBC Green belt. It was for the vacant WBC
International Lightheavyweight title. The fight was promoted by Universum Box
Promotion on 10 May 2003 in Stüttgart (Germany) and Rocchigiani lost on points to
Thomas Ulrich. That fight happened when the WBC was still in the trenches to fight
against the absurd sentence decided by a court in New York.
Therefore, all those ( ... too many today ... ) who spit venom on their potential
antagonists should understand that the road to ride is another and that, only
by fighting the envy and the bad faith, we will be able to ensure a better
future to boxing.
