Introduction



Man is considered to be the most wise and intellegent of all animals but he can
be most ungrateful at times.
This short story based on efmebnemeveÜeef$ebefMekeÀe condemns the ungrateful nature of a
man who is helped by a bear but does not care to return the favour.
This story indicates that even a beast is better than a wicked man.

Answer the questions in English
1. Why did the man think of climbing the tree ? (March 2008)
Ans. A man had gone to a forest on a hunt. While chasing a boar he became tired
and wanted to drink water. But when he saw a tiger from a distance, he was
confused and wanted to save his life so he thought of climbing the tree.
2. Why did the man prepare himself to spend the night with the bear ?
Ans. When the man saw a tiger from a far, he decided to climb a tree. But
when he climbed the tree he saw a bear on that tree. Seeing this, the
man trembled due to fear but the bear told him not to be frightened and
assured him that he would not trouble the man. Trusting the bear’s words,
the man prepared himself to spend the night with the bear.
3. What advice did the tiger give to the bear ? (Sep. 2009)
Ans. The tiger could see two preys on the tree, the man and the bear, but
could not eat either of them. Therefore, the tiger thought of convincing
either one to cheat the other one. The tiger told the bear that they both
have the same dwelling - the forest. He added that man was their born
enemy and that is why the bear should push the man on the ground.
4. What trick did the tiger play to change the mind of the man ?
Ans. The man trusted the bear and went off to sleep on his lap. When the man
woke up, the tiger tried to cheat the man. To change the mind of the
man, the tiger tried to tell him that it is mentioned in the science of
politics (jepeveerefleMeem$e) that one should not trust beasts with sharp nails.
Thus the tiger tried to confuse the mind of the man.
5. Why didn’t the man prove to be trustworthy ?
Ans. Though the bear was a beast, he still helped the man who was in trouble
and assured him safety. But the man, with so called intelligence and
brain got confused by the statement from the science of politics (jepeveerefleMeem$e)
stated by the tiger. Thus, the man forgetting the kindness of the bear,
was convinced by the tiger and was ready to cheat the bear. Thus, the
man did not prove to be trustworthy.
