COBOURG - In keeping with Remembrance Day observances, the North Lakeshore Chorus's concert, 'Till The Boys Come Home,
was conceived as a 100th anniversary musical tribute to Canadians who served their King and Country in the Great War of 19141918.
The concert will be reprised Nov. 14 at Trinity United Church in Cobourg.
More than 2,700 people have now attended the concert. In 2014, it was performed before audiences in Cobourg, Kingston. Toronto.
Ottawa, Quebec City and towns in the Maritimes. Earlier this year, it was enjoyed by appreciative concert-goers in 20 locations
across Southern England, France and Belgium. In Belgium, the Chorus, which includes singers from Northumberland County,
Ypres, (he Royal Newfoundland Monument, Courtrai and the Canadian National Vimy Monument in France were moving
experiences for choristers and audiences alike.
Back in London, choristers were given a tour of Canada House and sang for the staff. They then took the short walk to Green Park
where they performed in front of both the Canada Gate and the Canada Memorial which pays tribute to the nearly one million
Canadian and Newfoundland men and women who served in the First and Second World Wars, in particular, the more than
100,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and freedom.
This year's presentation will be conducted by Ian Juby, concert master of the Kingston Choral Society, and will feature Jacqueline
Mokrzewski and Charles Willett on piano. Debbie Fingas on organ, Chris Devlin on bugle and Garret Rodgers playing the
bagpipes.
The program includes many favourites of the time - The Maple Leaf Forever, Farewell to Nova Scotia. Let There be Peace on Earth,
In Flanders Fields and Keep the Home Fires Burning - and the audience will be invited to join in a rousing sing-along of popular
songs from that era including Tipperary, Pack Up Your Troubles, K-K-K-Katy and Oh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning.
This concert is the brainchild of Michael Korn, an alumnus of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. It is the eighth in a series of concerts
he has produced over the past 20 years celebrating various Royal milestones. Another of his productions was a Coronation
Concert in 2013, which was performed in Cobourg, Kingston and Toronto.
