PRECIOSA IN BLACKPOOL
For the most part of the year, Blackpool is a typical English seaside city situated on the north-western coast
of the Irish Sea, near Liverpool. It is hugely popular especially on weekends and during the tourist season, and
is therefore regarded by the British as a tourist and entertainment capital.
The Blackpool Dance Festival, incorporating the British Open
Championships (www.blackpooldancefestival.net), is often
termed as a mecca for all Latin American and Standard
dancers, both professional and amateur. This festival is the
world’s biggest, oldest (held regularly in Blackpool’s Winter
Gardens since 1920) and most famous annual competition
in which dancing couples from all over the world participate.
Such characteristics, coupled with the presence of so many
top couples, are the reason why professional dancers, as well
as amateurs and the general dancing public, attach such great
importance to this festival – greater even than the regard given
to world championships that could never boast, compared with
Blackpool, such concentration of couples at one place and in
one time. It is true to say that Blackpool is Wimbledon’s dancing
counterpart: a dancing couple that has never taken part in the
festival can hardly rank among top dancers.
Ac tiv it ie s
Besides the ballroom, where the festival annually takes place,
the Winter Gardens complex also includes an exhibition
and sale hall where manufacturing companies from all
quarters of the world display and offer their complete range
of dance-related products.
One of the regular exhibitors is also the Dance Sport International (DSI) Company, Preciosa’s exclusive authorized
Com pa ny 's
distributor for Great Britain, offering a complete range of dancing gear. DSI regularly purchases machine-cut
glass stones from Preciosa to decorate dancers’ costumes and various accessories. Last year, the company’s
exhibition stand attracted every visitor’s attention not only due to its splendor and prime position directly

opposite the main entrance, but primarily due to the 29 Preciosa - Lustry crystal chandeliers.
The DSI Company’s exhibition stand exclusively decorated with lighting fixtures by Preciosa - Lustry.

PRECIOSA - LUSTRY IN SPAIN AGAIN
On January 1, 2009, Preciosa - Lustry opened its new Madrid-based Spanish subsidiary named Ibero Preciosa.
It was established with the aim of extending the company’s range of lighting fixtures on offer, and improving
our customer service on the Spanish market, primarily in the lighting projects sector.
The opening ceremony, attended by Mr. Petr Eichner, Commercial Counselor, Ms. Adriana Krásová, Director of
the Czech Republic’s Cultural Center in Prague, and Preciosa - Lustry headquarters’ representatives Mr. Milan
Beneš, Vice President for Sales and Marketing, and Mr. Michal Gabaj, Senior Sales Executive of Spain, took
place on January 15, 2009 on the premises of the Czech Embassy in Madrid. Ibero Preciosa was represented
by the company’s new managing director Mr. Nick Briggs.
Invited to the ceremony also were, first of all, a special guest of honor Mr. Juan Peña Pérez, President of the
Tridex company (closed down in January 2009) and the most prominent Spanish architects, designers and
distributors.
The guests present were acquainted with previous Preciosa - Lustry lighting projects and informed about
the company’s plans for the future. This glittering event concluded with an informal discussion and a hors

PRECIOSA - LUSTRY AT THE FIAM 2008 FAIR,
VALENCIA, SPAIN
Preciosa - Lustry presented a collection
of new domestic lighting fixtures
from the NEW 2008 catalogue at the
September FIAM 2008 Fair that was
held, for the first time, as a biennial.
The well-known Czech artist Rony Plesl,
Preciosa - Lustry’s external designer,
designed the company’s exhibition
stand and some of the fixtures from
the NEW 2008 catalogue.
Inspiration
Rony Plesl designed Preciosa - Lustry’s exhibition stand as a sushi bar, with
bamboo stems in various configurations forming interesting decorations
contrasting with the crystal chandeliers illuminating the interior.
The dominant chandelier, designed by Preciosa - Lustry’s chief designer Jaroslav Bejvl Jr, was our exhibition
stand’s most captivating quality, attracting the attention of our customers, mainly architects and designers.
Mr. Bejvl followed the current trend in designing classical lighting fixtures characterized by added distinctive
elements of modern morphology, such as the extravagant vacuum-coated chandelier trimmings combined
with classical cut crystal components – all used in the fixture mentioned above. This combination makes a
distinctive contrast, amplifying the beauty of the chandelier. This chandelier’s timeless design will match
both modern and classical interiors.

PRECIOSA - LUSTRY AT THE DAYS OF DESIGN IN PRAGUE
DESIGNBLOK 08
The biggest Czech design show ‘Designblok 08’, held at the DOX Superstudio, featured a
unique lighting object by the name of Gargantua, designed by Rony Plesl and his studio team.
This hand-made chandelier is about 2,5 meters high and shaped as a bunch of blossoming
branches, all shining ends pointing downward.
The new chandelier Gargantua, designed by the renowned Czech artist Rony Plesl and his studio team, hovers on
the boundary of a work of art and a piece of interior furnishings. This unique lighting object, three meters high,
had its premiere at the design show ‘Designblok 08’ held in the entrance hall of the DOX Superstudio.
This spectacular chandelier, made and assembled from
mouth-blown glass components in combination with
machine-cut crystal chandelier trimmings, 50 cm in
diameter, will be sold in an original limited edition by
Preciosa, the company that started and completed the
manufacture of this fixture.
The designer Rony Plesl became famous
primarily for his collections of wine and
beer glasses and glass vases, currently
on display at the Prague exhibition
staged in the Window Gallery, and for
other impressive objects. Recently,
he was in the spotlight for his new
Pilsner Urquell beer glasses, and for
winning the Czech Grand Design Award
nomination and the prestigious Red
Dot Award.

In 2008, Preciosa - Lustry took part in reconstructing the theater building. The company
equipped the renovated interiors with 27

The entire reconstruction of the building was
naturally influenced by current requirements of
modern architecture and therefore two different
approaches to both interior design and lighting
systems come together here.
