required to “check in” with the program supervisor.
Participants will only be released to designated individuals
approved by parents/guardians. Any changes to a participant’s
approved list must be submitted to the office in writing.
Participants must be picked up at the designated time that is
listed in the program guide, flyer, or verbally informed by the
staff.

enrollment. Please note minimum and maximum registration
numbers.

Program Information
Participant Illness Guidelines
To prevent the spread of contagious illnesses, it is recommended
that participants refrain from attending programs when any of the
following conditions exist:
• Fever of 100° or higher
• Vomiting within the last 24 hours
• Persistent diarrhea in conjunction with other symptoms
• Contagious rash or a rash of unknown origin
• Persistent cough and/or cold symptoms
• “Pink eye” (conjunctivitis) or discharge from the eye
• Symptoms of mumps, measles, chicken pox, strep throat, flu,
Impetigo, Coxsackie virus, head lice, mites, and ringworm
• Runny nose with yellow or green discharge, which indicates
infection
• Fatigue, due to illness, that will hinder participation and
enjoyment of the program.
Please notify Northern Will County Special Recreation Association
office if the participant contracts any contagious illness that will
affect his/her attendance at the program. Participants should return
to programs at the recommendation of the doctor, or, if not under a
doctor’s care, when the symptoms have clearly passed.
Participant Attendance
Notify us if you are unable to attend a program or event. Please
contact the NWCSRA office at (815) 407-1819 between the hours
of 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
Contact Person
If you have questions about a specific program, please feel free
to get in touch with the contact person. That person is the most
knowledgeable about specific programmatic questions.
Parent/Guardian Observation Guideline
With your child’s best interest in mind, we ask that you get
prior approval from Northern Will County Special Recreation
Association staff before you visit or observe a program. Our staff
always welcomes your questions, feedback, and input, but need
to concentrate on the needs of the participants during program
times. In addition, we have found that most individuals respond
best to staff direction when parents are not present at programs. We
appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Atlanto-Axial Instability (AAI)
Individuals with Down Syndrome are at risk of having a condition
known as Atlanto-Axial Instability (AAI). This condition allows
for the increased laxity of ligaments involving the top bones
of the neck. In a number of individuals with Down Syndrome,
the movement between the first and second cervical vertebrae
is abnormally increased and may lead to pressure on the spinal
cord. It is a Northern Will County Special Recreation Association
requirement that any individual with Down Syndrome have a
doctor’s written note on file stating the person is free of AtlantoAxial Instability (AAI) in order to participate in certain programs.
Please call Northern Will County Special Recreation Association at
(815) 407-1819 for more information.

Program Cancellations Due To Weather
Northern Will County Special Recreation Association attempts
to hold programs whenever possible. However, inclement
weather occasionally makes it difficult for staff and participants
to travel to program locations. Northern Will County Special
Recreation Association cancellation policies are as follows:
• Northern Will County Special Recreation Association staff
look at all circumstances three hours prior to the starting
time of the program or transportation route, to determine
if the program should be cancelled. If the program is
cancelled, program staff attempt to reach all participants
by phone to inform them. You will only be called if the
program is cancelled.
• Northern Will County Special Recreation Association
attempts to extend programs to make up missed dates.
Northern Will County Special Recreation Association will
call/send a letter announcing program extensions.
Severe Weather Guidelines
In the event of severe weather, cancelling programs may be in the
best interest of our participants. The following guidelines will be
used to determine cancellations:
Severe Hot Weather
•
•
•
Outdoor programs, or indoor sites without air conditioning:
Heat index of 100 degrees or higher.
Programs with transportation: Temperature of 100 degrees or
higher.
All programs (including indoor): Weather situations when a
tornado warning is in effect for Will, Cook, and/or DuPage
Counties.
Pick Up & Drop Off Considerations
Pick ups and Drop offs may be late or early depending upon
unforeseen reasons such as traffic or construction. Take this
into consideration and provide the program supervisors with an
accessible phone number where you can be reached if the return
time should vary more than fifteen minutes.

Late Transportation Pick Up Policy
In order to be fair to our participants and program leaders,
Northern Will County SRA has enacted a late pick-up policy and
we would appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Many of our
programs have more than one pick up location and if one person is
late, it may disturb the schedule of others who are being picked up
at another location. We request that you double-check the pick up
time and be prompt.
We understand that circumstances do occur and we have built in
a 10 minute grace period. If a parent/guardian is more than 10
minutes late the staff is obligated to leave the location to proceed
to the next drop off location. It will be the responsibility of the
parent/guardian to pick-up their child at the next drop off location
or the Northern Will County SRA office. Parents/Guardians should
contact the cellular phone of the appropriate vehicle in which your
child was riding to arrange for the pick-up.

Behavior Expectations
Northern Will County Special Recreation Association encourages
and promotes the concept of fun for everyone. However, certain
rules and guidelines have been established to ensure the safety and
enjoyment for everyone. Participants, staff, volunteers and parents/
guardians are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times.
Additional rules may be developed for particular programs and
athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Staff, participants,
volunteers and parents/guardians shall:
• Show respect to all participants, staff, volunteers and parents.
• Abstain from using abusive or foul language.
• Refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants, staff,
coaches, volunteers and parents/guardians.
• Demonstrate respect to equipment, supplies, uniforms, and
facilities.
• Represent Northern Will County SRA in a manner that
is consistent with the goals, objectives and ethics of the
association.
A caring, positive approach will be utilized regarding the use of
disciplinary methods. Additional or individual behavior
management plans may be developed on the advice of parents,
guardians, staff members, or other professionals. Northern Will
County Special Recreation Association reserves the right to
dismiss or suspend a participant if the above noted procedures
are not adhered to, and/or, parent/guardian response to a problem
situation is not attempted. Each situation will be evaluated
individually and on its own merit.
Mandated Reporting
Northern Will County SRA staff are mandated by the State of
Illinois to report to the DCFS hotline if they observe a situation
that provides reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or neglect.
Workers in certain professions, including recreational program
personnel, has the above legal mandate; including all NWCSRA
Staff. Staff are trained in signs & symptoms of abuse & neglect
and the procedure for making a report.
PLEASE REGISTER by the Deadline!!!
Program/Event will be cancelled
if minimums are not met.
If program reaches its maximum, you will be
placed on a wait list.

DAY CAMP
NWCSRA’s Day Camp Experience
Fill your summer with action packed days.
NWCSRA day camps are designed to fit all
campers needs, help retain important skills learned
during the school year, promote socialization and
to have fun! Camp activities include crafts, games,
sports, swimming and field trips. All camps run from
Monday through Friday, but the times vary
depending on the session.
Camp Facilities
NWCSRA works closely with our member districts
to reserve rooms for day camps. At times, there
may be unforeseen circumstances causing
location changes for camps. In the event of a
location change, parents will be notified.
Camp Schedules
Every Friday, your camper will be sent home with a
camp schedule for the next week. The schedules will
notify you of activities planned each day and
important items to bring to camp.
Lunch
Staff
NWCSRA’s day camp staff has been trained in
areas of activity planning, behavior management,
safety and first aid. The ratio of campers to staff
will vary from camp to camp.
Please provide your camper with a snack, labeled
sack lunch and drink every day, unless otherwise
noted on the schedule.
Medication
In order for camp counselors to dispense medication
to any camper, you must indicate what medication is
taken on the registration form, in addition to filling out
NWCSRA’s medication dispensing forms.
During camp, all medication must be in original
dosage containers clearly labeled with the camper’s
name, along with medication name and dosage
instructions. If these directions are not followed, we
will not allow counselors to dispense any medication
that day.
Camp Apparel
All campers will receive a camp shirt. Camp T-Shirts
must be worn on all field trips. Days that do not have
field trips, send your camper in tennis shoes and
athletic clothing. On swim days, send your camper
with sunscreen, appropriate swimwear and a towel.
