The rigorous curriculum, with both theoretical and practical

and strategy building for Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs).
The SEFC conducts and facilitates systematic, extensive research
projects and offers advanced financial training courses for the Indian
banking sector to help policy-makers, financial

entrepreneurs to leapfrog finance, management and labor-market
constraints that impede productivity, particularly in the small
enterprise sector which plays a pivotal role through
employment-generation, entrepreneurial skills and export-earning

Centre for Development Finance (CDF)
The objective is to identify creative and sustainable models for
financing development through research, strategic guidance &
information to facilitate government and non-government partner
organizations in heightening the efficacy of initiatives that offer
infrastructure, leading to sustainable, equitable, and inclusive growth.
JPAL South-Asia
This center seeks to improve the efficacy of poverty alleviation programs in South-Asia by
providing policy -makers with clear, scientific results that help shape policies to combat
poverty by partnering with NGOs, international organizations, and others to evaluate
programs and disseminate the results of high quality research.
IFMR Trust
The mission is to ensure that every individual and every enterprise in India has complete
access to financial services by bringing about systemic changes in the Indian financial
system through a multi-pronged approach of high-quality & adequate financial services,
orderly transfer of risk and warehousing of risks by well-capitalized diversified entities.

Works closely with IFMR centres and faculty, providing abundant opportunity to
experiment with research ideas that can benefit the practice of offering universal
financial access.

Through IFMR holdings; builds working prototypes of localized, high-quality entities to
offer financial services in remote and rural India. These entities are called Kshetriya
Gramin Financial Services (KGFS) companies.

Through IFMR Advisory Services; launched a private equity fund, the Network
Enterprises Fund to eliminate systemic risk and make small rural enterprises
'financeable' by local banks / financial institutions.

Through IFMR Capital; creates a financial interface that will ensure orderly transfer of
risk between originators & aggregators of risk.

Through IFMR Trust Advocacy Unit (ITAU); helms advocacy efforts that are fortified by
experiences from the other 3 ventures.

The extensive curriculum that encompasses both,
theory and practicals, delivered through an
assortment of lectures, case-studies and activities,
by a world-class faculty, ensure better

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS:
Commenced in 1980, this part time program is a boon to
working professionals and enhances their managerial
capabilities in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, IT &
Operations fields.
IFMR has been conducting Management Development Programs (MDPs) for
more than 3 decades. It has so far trained over 15,000 senior-mid-level
executives both nationally and globally. The programs run the gamut of

Activity-based costing, Creativity, Innovation & Change-Management, and
Postgraduate Diploma
In Management (PGDM)
In the first year, the students get good grounding across all
management disciplines. Then they undergo a rigorous 2
month summer internship in an organization. In the second
year, the specialization streams available are Finance,
Financial Engineering, Development Finance, IT &
Operations, Marketing and Human Resources.
The Finance and IT & Operations streams prepare students
for IT, Banking and, Financial Ser vices and, the Corporate
world as Analysts, Consultants, Managers, etc.
Human Resources and Marketing students find attractive
opportunities in the Corporate and banking sectors.
The Financial Engineering specialization prepares students
for a career in investment banking, securities trading,
quantitative modeling, risk management, financial
consulting and applied research.
The Development and Sustainable Finance specialization
prepares students for challenging assignments in
development finance, micro-finance and infrastructure.
IFMR is seeking AICTE approval to admit 180 students into its
new campus in Sri City for the academic year commencing
June 2014.
Ph.D. PROGRAM:
The Ph.D. program (affiliated to the University of Madras)
is designed to develop faculty/researchers in the fields of
finance & economics. So far we have produced 15
Doctorates. Currently we have 11 scholars in the program.
Strategic leadership and Interpersonal skills for Managers. Some of the
biggest names in the corporate world in India and abroad have been part of
our MDP’s viz. ICICI Bank, Reserve Bank of India, Murugappa Group,
Cholamandalam Investment and Finance, World Bank, Commonwealth
Secretariat London, Larsen & Toubro, Standard Chartered Bank, etc.
About PGDM
The primary objective of the PGDM program is to facilitate students to
become successful managers. To achieve this objective the program
incorporates the following:- First, it provides a strong foundation in
management by offering a set of core courses in the areas of
Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, IT & Operations and Human
Resource Management. The 2 month summer internship gives the students
hands on practical exposure and the valuable experience of working on a
project. Building from these disciplines the program offers a wide range of
relevant and contemporary electives for the student to specialize in the
second year. The content of these courses are continuously revamped by the
faculty to ensure that they reflect critical business issues that organizations
face today. This process is aided by wide ranging academic and research
partnerships that IFMR has with other leading business schools in the world
and its own research centers focused on key areas of development and
sustainability. In addition, the faculty members who teach this program
are eminently qualified in their respective domains and thus add significant
value to the classroom experience and the program.
Second, IFMR’s selection policy is oriented towards diversity in classroom.
Students are not only from different states but also have varied
backgrounds in terms of educational specialization and work experience.
This ensures a diverse and culturally rich learning environment where the
emphasis is on learning from each other through discussions and
gaining an understanding of 'reality' in organizations.
Third, IFMR provides opportunities for students to interact with practicing
managers from leading organizations. The state-of-the-art academic
infrastructure ensures that students have access to all the latest learning
tools including online journals and databases.
Fourth, the program provides flexibility to the students to pursue different
careers in industry. IFMR has had a successful record of placement. The
students passing out of this course have been placed in many leading
organizations in sectors like banking, financial services, equity research,
consultancy, risk management, manufacturing, IT and other services, many
of them being global companies.

Spectrum
Managerial studies are not just limited to classroom teachings
and case studies. It spells much more than that. Be it handling
finance activities, external resources, placements, alumni, sports,
social service and last but not least, cultural events and festivals.
Students have an outreach everywhere which is mirrored by 9
clubs and committees, each with its own special significance and
motive. These clubs not only provide students with an opportunity
to explore their forte but also aid in giving them a holistic growth
on a personal level as prospective managers.
IFMR B-School Fest- Abhyudaya
The rising sun scatters its first ray of
sunshine, promising a new beginning. This
ideology is what defines Abhyudaya, the
flagship event of the college. An event that
makes you question the ordinary, provokes and inspires you to
think out of the ‘box’ and leaves you enriched with an
experience of renewed belief. Every year it comes with a new
theme to test and showcase your talent and skills.
Over the years, it has evolved into a full fledged B-School fest
recognized for its excellence and its uniqueness in being purely
focused on the branches of management, Namely Finance,
Marketing, HR and IT & Operations.
This acclaimed event held in the month of February has seen active
participation of over 2000 students from well-known institutions
like the IIMs, FMS, XLRI, SP Jain, SIBM, NMIMS, KIAMS, LIBA, GIM

TEC- The Entrepreneurship Club
Arthasabha
Arthasabha, the Finance Club of IFMR,
aims to cultivate and develop a keen
interest for finance amongst the
student community. Arthasabha caters to a wide variety of finance
- related interests, particularly stock trading, financial modeling,
equity research, corporate finance and investment banking.
The club is also responsible for organizing the flag ship National
Level Finance Summit in association with BSE, Arthasabha through
this summit, aims at gaining valuable insights on the challenges as well
as foresight on unleashing the opportunities that lie ahead of us.
Corporate leaders, experts, leading academicians and practitioner
debate on issues involving structural challenges, financial inclusion
and opportunities which will help us sustain a healthy economic
and financial environment.
The club conducts various inter as well intra-college events
throughout the academic session.

“Stakeholder” is a word every management
student knows by he art. But dealing with
external stakeholders is what this
committee faces in student life. All interactions with prospective
applicants, media and peer institutions are coordinated and carried
out by the external relation steam. The team also assists the

The Alumni Committee
The Alumni Committee aims at maintaining
cordial relations with the alumni of the
college. The alumni of IFMR are its greatest assets as they are the
face of institute who strive to carry forward the mission of the
college. The alumni committee conducts alumni meets in several
locations in India and provides the opportunity for the alumni of
the various batches to interact among themselves and with the
faculty.

placement committee of IFMR works in conjunction with the
placement cell and management of the college, aiming at

healthy living. Essentially the well-being of a student is

responsibility for all welfare activities. It acts as the much needed

B-Sportive- The sports club
The sports club of IFMR embodies the essence of its
name, to be sportive. This club not only makes a
refreshing change to the hectic management
curriculum with its sports events organized in the
IFMR campus but also helps students grow
holistically through team work and resource
management. The events are organized entirely by the students
which bring them face to face with the real life situations one has
to tackle during managing human resources and large scale events.
Laasya- The cultural club
Music and dance form the core of any cultural
activity and no list of extra-curricular can be
complete without the mention of the cultural club
which, brings the lion’s share of joy to the
classrooms. Laasya ensures the students get their share of fun
through various activities like DJ nights, fresher party and ice breakers
which fosters the bond between seniors and juniors and helps the
students in coming across the livelier side of management studies.
Samarthan
“An individual has not started living
until he can rise above the narrow
confines of his individualistic concerns
to the broader concerns of all humanity” were the words of Martin
Luther King, Jr. which are enough to define the goal of
Samarthan-the social service club.
Samarthan offers the students to manage and participate in
various events with a social cause leading to the enrichment of
soul with knowledge. ‘Let’s come together & join hands to make
the world a better place to live in’ is the motto of Samarthan and
the committee ensures that this is achieved in reality by having
minimum of one social initiative/activity per month.

IFMR alumni are well-placed in leading organizations across various
sectors such as Investment Banking, Equity Research, Consulting,
Insurance and Risk Mangement, Manufacturing, IT and Services.
Some have pursued higher education in prestigious graduate schools

University, etc. IFMR alumni are working across the globe from USA in

i. Graduates in any discipline with a consistent academic record. Final year students can also apply.
ii. Any one of CAT 2013 / XAT 2014 / GMAT & GRE (taken in the last five years) / CMAT
(September 2013) scores.

Method of selection
Short-listed candidates will be called in for the selection process to be held in Ahmedabad,
Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata Luck now and
Mumbai on dates to be notified later (subject to minimum number of applications).
Capacity
IFMR plans to admit upto 180 students in its new world class campus in Sri City for the 2 year full time
academic program to commence in June 2014, with AICTE approval.
