Wimborne Minster (Dorset)
Group Travel
Information 2015
Welcome to the pretty historic town of Wimborne Minster with its wonderful variety of shops,
eateries and places of interest, including the ‘Treasures’; four charming visitor attractions each with
something a little different to offer visitors.
Explore the gracious interior of the Minster Church of St Cuthburga 1 , with its ancient stone spiral staircase leading
to the unique Chained Library. Discover the hidden garden and fascinating galleries of the Priest’s House Museum &
Gardens 2 , where period rooms bring history to life. Navigate the small streets of the famous Model Town 3 , an
authentic replica of 1950s Wimborne, or admire quality craftwork at picturesque Walford Mill Crafts 4 on the banks
of the River Allen.
In the town’s charming streets and hidden courtyards, visitors can enjoy browsing a delightful range of high street
stores and independent shops and boutiques and the weekly Wimborne Market 5 (every Friday, Saturday and
Sunday) is just a short stroll from the town centre. With the beautifully restored Art Deco Tivoli Theatre 6 offering
shows, music and the latest films and a tasty selection of tearooms, cafés, pubs and restaurants, Wimborne Minster has
everything for the perfect day or half day visit.
This booklet also contains information on nearby Kingston Lacy (NT) 7 and Knoll Gardens
drive from the town centre and the ideal complement to Wimborne Minster for a full day out.

The Priest’s House Museum & Garden is set in an historic town
house where a series of period rooms takes the visitor back

Wimborne Model Town
& Gardens
Opened in 1951, the 1/10th scale models of Wimborne are now
a vintage miniature world of life in a Dorset market town in
the 1950s. Visitors can really get close up and even touch the
buildings, checking out every minute detail of over 100 shop
window displays.
Set in a relaxing garden setting, the Sensory Garden, 00 gauge
model railway, dolls house exhibition and Wendy Street play area
offer a range of additional facilities to all. Don’t forget the tea
rooms and shop. We aim to be disabled friendly with level access

Knoll Gardens
Regularly featured in the national press and on TV, Knoll Gardens
is renowned for its naturalistic style and ornamental grasses
which sit within a framework of rare and unusual trees and
shrubs. Originally a private botantic garden, Knoll is now owned
by the UK’s leading ornamental grass expert, and Senior Chelsea
Flower Show judge, Neil Lucas, whose planting style has created
an inspirational garden abundant with wildlife.
The garden is discovered via a network of winding paths leading through a
series of horticultural galleries providing quiet places of contemplation and
dramatic focal points. With vibrant spring colour, and exquisite summer
flowers covered in butterflies and bees, Knoll is at its peak in late autumn and
early winter when its stunning autumn colours are brought to dramatic effect
backlit by the winter sun.
