The club has been working hard throughout the off season to put together the best Delta Jr. A team ever, and we are anticipating a very exciting season. Our fan support has been tremendous and we look forward to continued community support throughout Delta. British Columbia will be hosting the Minto Cup in August 2014 and it is our goal to be the team representing B.C. We encourage you to bring a friend to our games at Sungod Arena and enjoy the fastest game on two feet. 2014 DELTA JR “A” ISLANDERS The Delta Islanders Jr ‘A’ Lacrosse club competes in the British Columbia Junior “A” Lacrosse League. The league consists of 8 teams from the Lower Mainland, Nanaimo and Victoria. They compete for the honour of a National Championship, the famed “Minto Cup”, one of Canada’s oldest sports awards FOLLOW US @jraislanders https://www.facebook.com/DeltaIslandersLacrosseClub http://www.deltaislanders.ca Special thanks to Meaghan Snow for creating and maintaining our social media sites COMMISSIONER’S MESSAGE On behalf of all of the BCJALL Governors and Executive, welcome to all our fans to another exciting Junior A lacrosse season. In 2014, our fans can once again expect to see and enjoy the fastest game on two feet, with the expected traditional athletic wizardry, competition and unbridle desire to succeed that our young and talented players display each and every game as members of BC Junior A Lacrosse! Each of our teams will be competing once again to be the BC representative at the Minto Cup, which will be hosted here in BC in 2014 at the Langley Events Centre. The Minto Cup returns for the first time in over ten years to its original format of East vs West in a best-of-seven series. Prior to the Minto Cup showdown, our BC Champion will meet the Alberta Champion to determine who the western representative will be in a best-of-five Western Final Championship. That series will take place at the home of the BC Champion. So BC Junior fans, lots of great lacrosse action to look forward too. Finally, a special thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers for their support, for without any of you, our league could not be the success that it is, and we thank you! Too our fans, I look forward to seeing all of you at the games, supporting your favorite teams, and enjoying Junior A lacrosse at its finest. This is an exciting season as we bring in two new coaching groups for both the Jr “A” team and the Intermediate “A” team and a drive for the Jr “A” team to reach the Minto Cup. Along with the program comes fundraising to make Lacrosse affordable to our players of which many are either students or young working adults. We are introducing two new fundraisers which we hope will be strongly supported by the fan base and their friends and families that come out to watch the kids play. TRAVEL VOUCHER RAFFLE $2500.00 Prize Value Now who would not want to win a travel voucher which will allow the winner to plan their trip anywhere they want to go and not be restricted to any specific airline. This will enable them to utilize a $2500 credit towards their dream holiday. Tickets: $5.00 per ticket CALENDAR RAFFLE $150 + prize Value We have developed a calendar for our teams which will show all game times and locations for the season, and have pictures of our players in action! Each home game for both Intermediate and Jr “A” teams will have a prize draw. Calendars will be numbered and the winning calendar number will win that prize! All prizes have a minimum value of $150 or greater, and all have been donated by supporting businesses. We hope that the fans will enjoy having a team calendar and good luck on prize draws Calendars: $20.00 per calendar - good for all game draws for the team you buy the calendar through 50/50 As always, we will retain the 50/50 draws at all homes games for nice cash prizes to the winners. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE DELTA ISLANDERS JR. A LACROSSE CLUB! PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM Delta Islanders Jr ‘A’ Lacrosse club would like to thank those businesses that support our club. We are always looking for volunteers and currently can use help with areas such as games photos, 50/50 ticket sales, and fundraising committee to follow-up with potential partners, helping with new initiatives for the team. If you have even an hour a week, it can help. If you are interested, please contact Sandra Nass ([email protected]) LAXlevel Photography HOME GAME SECURITY Why do we have security monitoring doors at home games? Besides being mandated by the BCJALL to provide a safe and comfortable venue, we have appointed volunteers monitoring the doors during the first ½ of all home games to ensure that fans, players and team personnel enter through the front admission desk only. The volunteers at this desk have a list of all season pass holders, team personnel, eligible players and anyone with special authorisation. Eligible Delta players can watch games by first identifying themselves, wearing their team shirt or jersey, and then checking their name from the players’ list. The Delta Islanders Jr. “A” Lacrosse Club runs on community fan support and through very important partnership funding with local businesses. There are no “owners”, and as such, every dollar earned is important to the ongoing success of the club. For all those that by-pass the admissions desk and attempt to gain entry through other means, please keep this in mind, doing so is taking away from the success of this club, and if permitted to continue, there will not be a club. Please treat all volunteers with respect and understanding when they ask you to go through the front door. If you enjoy this sport and enjoy watching the games, remember the importance of your contribution both as a fan and as a supporter. Lastly, we thank you very much for your attendance, participation and enthusiasm at home games. We do need and value your support. We want to ensure the future success of the club and hope you do as well. All admission to games must be done through the main entrance where the admission table is situated – this includes teams, player personnel and of course, the valued fans of the game. The BC Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League announced on Thursday that the Minto Cup will have a mainland home at the LEC starting in 2014. The Minto Cup alternates between an Eastern and Western facility every year, and the home facility is traditionally based upon the host team. However, beginning in 2014, the LEC will be the host venue for the West so long as the host team resides in the Lower Mainland, something that has been the case each year since 1986 when VictoriaEsquimalt hosted the event. “We are excited to be able to call the LEC Home when the event is played on the Mainland and in the West,” BCJALL Commissioner Ken Wood said, adding that having a somewhat permanent home will advance the planning every two years. This year the 2014 Minto Cup is returning from a four-team tournament format to the more traditional best-of-seven series featuring the top team in the East versus the top team in the West. The champions from the British Columbia Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League will compete against the champions from the Alberta Junior ‘A’ League for the right to represent the West. This sets the stage for a West versus East (Ontario Junior ‘A’ League) best of seven playoff battle for the Minto Cup, which will take place at the LEC. The journey to the 2014 Minto Cup begins next month, as the Junior ‘A’ season kicks off April 26th in Delta, BC and May 3rd in Alberta.
