product line
Groove Tubes has received Fender’s
blessing to produce a limited quantity
of SFX Stereo Technology systems for
those musicians who want SFX Stereo
but also want to keep their existing
tube amps and stereo effects
devices.
Our goal was to produce a
complete SFX Stereo system – an
electronic SFX Encoder, and a range
of SFX Stereo Decoder Speaker
Cabinets that would work with any
tube amp, tube preamp, stereo
effects unit and/or tube power amps.
We also designed special SFX
Stereo Decoding Speaker Cabinets for
keyboard instruments – the K1 and
K3 – because so many modern
keyboard samples are based upon
stereo patches, which are greatly
enhanced by the SFX Stereo

An SFX Stereo system
requires either a separate preamp
and stereo amp – or two amps, with
the first amp having a common
effects loop.

Note for keyboards
Stereo keyboards already contain
left-right stereo information, so your
setup is easy. Simply connect the
left-right outputs of your keyboard to
the corresponding SFX Encoder
inputs for Left and Right. Additionally,
the effects mix control on your E1
will act as a master volume for your
whole system for the two sides.
Now you’re ready for action! Plug
in your instrument and get the
preamp signal level showing
adequate gain into the stereo effects

level and peak indicator to help with
this process. Now set the stereo

your effects device for maximum wetness,
then you should only need to mix in a small
fraction of its signal with your original tube
preamp signal (at the E1) with your original
tube preamp signal.
Note
This balance is usually 98% original dry tone
with 2% fully wet-effected signal from your
stereo effects device. In this mode, you can

SFX SPACESTATION™ MK2 STEREO AMPLIFIER
SFX: The Cure For the Common Gig
The GT SFX Spacestation MK2 is a single compact powered monitor that
creates a 300-degree field of stereo sound using a 100-watt per channel
Class D power amp and dipole speaker array. The SFX "acoustical space
vortex" created by the dipole speaker is the secret to the stereo magic,
electronically encoding left and right signals, and then acoustically
decoding them in the unique Front & Side powered speaker systems.
The SFX Spacestation MK2's front speaker is a custom-made co-ax speaker
with a compression driver and super tweeter. The Side speaker is a specially designed full range speaker mounted 90 degrees off axis to the front
speaker. Level and Width controls allow balance between the Front and
Side speakers to compensate for room acoustics (use more Width for a
dead room). The SFX MK2 also offers a Subwoofer output to handle larger
gigs. The improvements over the original SFX models include a new 2-inch
port in the cabinet for extended low end frequency response, as well as a
re-tuning of the cabinet itself, adding smoother, more natural low frequency
harmonics and increasing speaker life while allowing more power output.
In the amplifiers’ electronics, a new heavy-duty passive crossover and a
new active EQ filter combine with its new front coaxial speaker for more
power, tighter definition, and smoother frequency response at all volume
levels.
The SFX Spacestation MK2 is perfect for amplifying stereo sources such as
keyboards, and can also be driven from the stereo outputs of a mixer, or
even directly from many stereo effects devices. Plug in and get a fantastic
300 degree stereo sound field for your vocals, keyboards, bass, and guitar
which all emanates from one central point... so everybody hears the same
mix, even the audience! The SFX Spacestation MK2 measures just 18” high
and 11” deep and wide, and weighs only 32 lbs. It's the perfect solution
for getting terrific, room-filling sound at small gigs!

SFX Spacestation can handle just about any small live performance where a realistic
stereo image is preferred over the typical (read: boring) Mono or two-point Mono type
musical instrument amps used in the past. Keyboards have been stereo for 20 years...
but players continue to suffer with Mono amps! Our amp creates an exciting stereo
sound field in those smaller venues (with bad acoustics and bad stage location) such as
bars, schoolrooms or church halls. Your vocals and instruments will sound BIG, WIDE, and
FAR more intelligible at the lowest volume levels. You no longer have to play loud to be
heard... it’s truly a cure for the common gig! Your audience will hear more of your performance and at lower levels (read: boy can talk to girl, which sells more drinks making
bartender very happy!) The experience is especially rewarding for you, the performer,
because you hear the same amazing wide stereo sound as your audience hears from
every seat in the house! No more guessing or asking your friend, “How does it sound
out there?” You will know and feel it instantly!
SFX Spacestation 2x100 Stereo Amplifier
2) Electronic Drums: Either live or pre-recorded electronic drum tracks can also be
accommodated by the SFX Spacestation to produce convincing separation. For those
larger gigs, we might recommend a subwoofer.
3) Guitar Amp Modeling: The popular Line 6 POD® can finally move beyond the
bedroom to become a practical tool for live performance through the SFX Spacestation.
The powerful stereo modeling tones of the POD, as heard through stereo headphones,
are totally lost through a conventional Mono guitar amp. Even a conventional stereo PA
system or pseudo stereo combo amps can not extend the stereo effect beyond a few
feet, and even then, it only works if the listener is in the perfect position. Move a few
feet off center, or far back from a conventional stereo PA or combo amp and the stereo
effect is totally lost! All you get is “Mushy Mono”.
The SFX patented signal processing technology is fundamentally different from all conventional stereo systems, and can produce stereo results beyond anything you have ever
experienced. Reviewers have likened it to “standing inside a giant set of headphones”.
Another review said, “Suddenly, you are swimming in the sound of your guitar” (Guitar
World). Only the patented SFX Spacestation responds to the “stereo challenge”. Now, all
within earshot "get it" and the players literally gush with excitement over the big sonic
signature they are hearing for the first time.
The SFX Spacestation’s control panel: Power indicator, 1/4” inputs (left
and right), subwoofer output, SFX width control, amp level control,
power on/off switch, AC power input.
SFX Spacestation Applications
1) Keyboards: SFX Spacestation was designed especially for the modern stereo based
keyboard which has a wide range of stereo based and modeled sound effects. You won’t
believe your ears when your “Leslie®” patch actually spins! Multiple keyboards can be
mixed through a small stereo line mixer. Also, an optional subwoofer can be connected
if you’re covering those big bottom bass parts.
4) “Band in a Box”: Picture this... the whole band using stereo based instruments and
also a few vocal mics processed through a stereo effects unit, then mixed in a stereo
mixer like a studio recording and finally amplified in LIVE stereo dimension through a
single SFX Spacestation amp. No guitar amps, no keyboard amps, no main or monitor
PA... just one SFX Spacestation amp effectively reproducing the whole band. Sound
impossible? Well, it was before SFX was invented just a few years ago. The Left/Right
stereo mixer outputs now emanate from a single acoustic source point. There is no
competition (or weird audio cancellations) common to the multi-amp approach. Using
a single SFX Spacestation amp, the band and the audience now all hear the same
“mix”, and in a convincing stereo soundfield. No need for monitors, no need for the
players to wonder how loud or soft to play as they now can “mix” naturally as they all
hear the same source! The players can concentrate on the music, not the mix! SFX
Spacestation makes playing live a pure pleasure, no more escalating volume competitions from 5 to 10 separate stage amps. Now while we do not seriously suggest using
your SFX Spacestation as a high volume vocal PA for auditoriums, the SFX Spacestation
is ideal for those smaller “acoustic” coffeehouse sets, church worship events, or just a
bedroom jam.
Setting Up the SFX Spacestation
Groove Tubes llc
There are two stereo instrument level inputs, Left and Right. This is where you connect
your stereo keyboard, a POD, or any stereo mixer if you have multiple instruments and
vocals.
The master Width control balances the overall Front and Side system levels (increases
the width of the stereo effect when rotated clockwise). We recommend starting in the 12
o’clock position and adjust more Side speaker level for a dead room, or perhaps less in
an acoustically live room. You should “season” this balance for all occasions.
NOTE: as you might expect, signals with little or no stereo content are not affected
by the Width control because Mono signals don’t stimulate the side speaker. But
feed SFX 100 a good “Leslie” patch or guitar slap delay, and you may get caught
looking around wondering where all the extension speakers are hiding.

POWERED STEREO MONITOR
2x100 Stereo Amp for Instruments and Vocals
US Patent #691426
SFX™ TECHNOLOGY
300˚ Stereo Field Expansion
Our patented SFX circuitry converts the Left/Right stereo input signals from your
keyboard into Front/Side signals, which are in turn amplified by a 100 watt/channel
stereo Class D amplifier to drive a rather unconventional dual chambered, single speaker
system. Our unique technology is the only effective way of producing exciting stereo
sound images in a live venue. Nothing else comes close.
The Package: The SFX Spacestation is a small, yet rugged stereo amp designed for
today’s keyboards and guitar modeling products, like the LINE 6 POD®. The SFX
Spacestation may also be used along with a small mixer to make it the perfect “plug
and play” combo package for the various single performer acts needing a simple solution for small clubs, restaurants and churches. Our unusual looking SFX Front and Side
dual chambered cabinet has a 3-way Front speaker system consisting of an 8” Co-Ax
woofer, a 1” compression driver/horn,
and a super tweeter, all tuned by our
electronic crossover and housed in the
upper chamber. The contrasting 6.5”
full range Side speaker is an open-air
dipole system set at a 90 degree angle
to the upper speaker. Together, these
radically different speakers combine to
create a “Stereo Sound Vortex” that
keep the stereo image without mixing in
the open air... these separate sound
waves are like oil and water so they
arrive to your ear as separate signals, to
be combined in your brain to create the
psychoacoustic effect. This is the process
that produces the magical SFX sound.
But perhaps the best feature of our SFX
Spacestation Big sound is its Small size!
It’s only 18” high, 11” deep and wide
and weighs just 28 pounds! This lightweight package fits nicely in a New York
taxi, or strap it behind your Harley!
