Map Assignment
Instructions:
You and your partner’s task is to plan and create a detailed map of
Ship Trap Island. Your map must include all of the elements of the
island in which Zaroff trapped and hunted Rainsford. It must depict the
story, The Most Dangerous Game.
Steps to Follow:
1. Re-read The Most Dangerous Game, as you are reading, jot down
ALL of the details you find about the setting of the story. There
are approximately 15-20 descriptions you should look out for.
2. Get a large piece of paper for your map.
3. Use your setting jot notes to create a large, illustrated map
of the island. The map MUST include the following:
• Island traps
o Fox Hunt
o Maylay Man-catcher
o Burmese Tiger Pit
o Ugandan Knife Trick
• Zaroff’s trap (Rainsford could see this from the window
of Zaroff’s house)
• Rainsford’s journey throughout the story
o The coast where he begins
o The cliff
o Zaroff’s house
o The tree
o The swamp
o The shoreline
• all the details of the setting
• neat labels
• a legend
• colour and illustration
• your names
• a title
