From a small fledgling guitar company starting life in the late 1950s, Takamine has become one of the world’s most revered

THERMAL TOP
Thermal Top Technology and New TT Series
It is common knowledge that the sound of a quality, wooden musical instrument improves with age. A well-played acoustic guitar’s natural
aging process allows it to ‘open up’ in terms of both tone and volume. Takamine’s new TT series captures those sought-after vintage acoustic
guitar tones by employing a wood treatment process known as ‘torrefaction’. In this process, the wood in the guitar’s top is heated slowly in a
vacuum, allowing most of the moisture to be released along with the sugar vapors and volatile compounds of the resins in the wood. As the
wood cools, moisture vapor is added to the wood so that it remains supple. The result changes the wood’s structure, dramatically improving
the tone, appearance, and stability--much like that of a great vintage instrument. Add Takamine’s critically acclaimed ‘Palathetic Pickup’ and
‘TLD-2’ line driver preamp and you own an acoustic guitar with the sound you’ve always dreamed of and electronics that can accurately
translate that tone to an audience fifty or fifty thousand. You also get the world-class playability of a hand-crafted Takamine.
With the EF340STT, a solid spruce ‘Thermal Top’ drives solid American mahogany back and sides in classic, non-cutaway dreadnought style.
Faux tortoise shell binding and pick guard, open gear butterbean tuners and understated ‘T’ logo appropriately accentuate the vintage sound
of this killer instrument. The EF360STT boasts the same features with solid rosewood back and sides and grained ivoroid binding.

NEW ‘TLD-2’ line driver preamp
Takamine’s new TLD-2 line driver preamp is installed into these
thermal top guitars. This indiscreet circuit required no extra wide
apertures to be made in the guitars body, therefore retaining the
full aesthetics and tone of a traditional acoustic only guitar.

The fingerboard delicately and artfully portrays the Japanese fishing technique known as “Tomozuri” used to catch the Wild Ahu, or “Watermelon Fish” so called because of its similarly sweet, smell and taste.
This fascinating technique celebrated within the Gifu Prefecture (where Takamine’s hometown is located) utilizes the territorial behavior of
the Ahu fish by introducing a live, hooked decoy fish which the angry Ahu will then attack in dramatic fashion. Between the Ahu’s extremely
spirited nature and the fast-flowing rivers and rapids in which they dwell, pulling in the “Watermelon Fish” is known as a challenging and
exhilarating experience.

Takamine’s P4DC dreadnought cutaway combines tradition with contemporary refinements, including a resonant solid spruce top with scalloped “X” top bracing for superior
clarity and projection, and a solid sapele back with sapele sides for rich, warm sound.
Built with the performer in mind, the P4DC features Takamine’s proprietary CTP-3 Cool
Tube™ preamp system paired with the unique Palathetic™ under-saddle pickup for
peerless amplified response. The dual-channel CTP-3 provides low-voltage tube tone,
variable from bright and brilliant to thick and warm, three-band EQ with semi-parametric
midrange, auxiliary input and volume (for use when a second pickup is added), and an
onboard chromatic tuner.
Other performance-enhancing features include a convenient Venetian cutaway for easy
access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard, and Takamine’s asymmetrical neck profile
– which is slightly thinner on the bass side so that it fits the natural shape of your hand, resulting in a comfortable feel and improved playability. The split bone saddle provides more
accurate intonation, while the pin-less rosewood bridge makes string changes a breeze.
Premium design appointments include elegant ivory body binding with dark wood purfling,
a rosette featuring concentric rings and wood marquetry, a rosewood fingerboard with

PALATHETIC PICKUP
The key to the amplified superiority of Takamine™ acoustic-electric guitars is
the Palathetic pickup.
Using six individually shielded piezoelectric elements (one for each string), the
Palathetic pickup is no ordinary under-saddle transducer. Takamine’s design, in
fact, boasts a dozen times the element mass of typical under-saddle pickups,
resulting in a more fully realized amplified sound. All six pickup elements penetrate the bridge plate, soundboard and bridge to make direct contact with the
saddle, creating a distinctive sonic linkage with the string. The pickup casing is

The result of this design is a signal that has the defined articulation of each
individual string and the rich harmonic content delivered by the resonating

ENDPIN JACK
An all-in-one endpin output jack is fastened by three large wood screws so that the endpin should not
be loose or fall, and the damages to the body should be kept at minimum when the connected cable is
accidentally tugged hard. A commonly used 1/8’ mini plug is connected to the other end of the internal
cable to make the repair work, like replacement of the jack, easier.

The two-channel CT4-DX offers the ultimate in preamp flexibility. Used with the Palathetic under-saddle pickup, it offers
four-band EQ (low, low mid, high mid, high) and two notch filter

HISTORY
THE TAKAMINE STORY
For more than half a century, Takamine has proudly dedicated itself to the art of fine guitar
craftsmanship.
Its long standing devotion to innovation and continual improvement has placed it among the
world’s premier acoustic guitar makers, with truly fine instruments that are the first choice of
performing guitarists worldwide.
With humble beginnings in 1959 as a small family-run guitar shop nestled at the foot of Mount
Takamine in the central Japanese town of Sakashita, the fledgling company took the mountain’s
name in 1962 and began in earnest the journey that led to the phenomenal success that is the
modern Takamine company.
Throughout the 1960s, Takamine expands with 60 workers and with the arrival of Luthier Mass
Hirade, many effective design and manufacturing improvements are introduced and Takamine
become one of Japan’s leading classical guitar and mandolin builders.
The 1970s sees Takamine branching out to a much wider audience, becoming available worldwide. Continued innovation results in the development of the under-saddle Palathetic™ pickup
that revolutionizes amplified acoustic guitar design. Takamine then goes on to introduce its first
acoustic-electric model, the PT-007S.
The success of this new electro-acoustic guitar design is undeniable and creates the perfect
acoustic sound system for the steel string guitar and is looked to as the reference in the guitar
world today.
World –class artist like Ry Cooder, Glen Frey of the Eagles among other become Takamine users
Over the following decades, Takamine continue to innovate and
introduce many signature models for it’s growing artist line up.
In 2004 Takamine debut of the first onboard acoustic guitar tube
preamp, the CTP-1 Cool Tube®, and the Tri-ax “add-on” acoustic

Removal And Installation Of Takamine Pre Amps
To release the preamp from the preamp frame.
Step 1
First, to release the preamp from the preamp frame, you must depress the two clips located on the inner wall of the preamp frame.
This is done by inserting a sturdy paperclip through the preamp slots as shown on the illustration. The clips are plastic and should
release easily. Do not use excessive force as too much pressure can break the clips.
Slide the preamp out of the guitar body
Step 2
Once released from the frame, slide the preamp out of the guitar body. Disconnect plugs attached to the jacks on backside of the
preamp. Note: to avoid damage to the wiring, do not pull the plugs out by the wire. Instead remove by grasping the plastic plug
body. Install the plugs into the new preamp jacks. Takamine preamps use two different types of plugs for input and output - so an
incorrect connection cannot be made.
When installing the new preamp
Step 3
When installing the new preamp, position it so that the battery compartment on the preamp is located on the side closest to the
guitar neck. Slide the new preamp down into the preamp frame, until it snaps into the frame clips. Install battery and you are ready
to play.
The Cool Tube and CT4B II preamps are both designed for use only in Pro Series Takamine guitars made in Japan. These are not
compatible with G Series guitars and electronics.
The TK-40 and TP-4T preamps are both designed for use only in G Series model guitars and are not compatible with Pro Series
Takamine guitars made in Japan.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Here are the basics on keeping your guitar in great shape:
Care and Maintenance Keep It Clean
Among the many fine guitar-cleaning products available at your local music store, a good polish and some lint-free polishing rags are must-have
items.
After playing your guitar, wipe the strings with a dry cloth. Use guitar polish sparingly on the rest of the instrument.
On satin finishes, the wood will take on an attractive patina over time. Again, use polish sparingly or simply use a clean, slightly damp cloth to wipe
down the surface, following it up soon after with a clean, dry cloth to ensure that no moisture remains.
Use lemon oil or a specially formulated fingerboard conditioner on the fingerboard and bridge a couple of times a year or when the wood looks
dry (you must remove the strings to do this).
Replace old, dull or discoloured strings. Do not remove all the strings at once. Rather, change strings one at a time, as this puts less stress on the
truss rod (click here for instructions on adjusting Takamine’s two-way truss rod).
Keep It Comfortable
Generally, your guitar is comfortable under the same temperature and humidity conditions in which you are comfortable. Moderate temperatures
and a 40- to 60-percent humidity level are optimal for your guitar.
Use a case or room humidifier if you’re in mountains or desert and run heating or air conditioning frequently (or if you’re unsure of conditions).
You won’t need a humidifier if you live near larger bodies of water or on a boat; a desiccant (silicon pack) might be necessary in these conditions.
Don’t Hurt It
Do not “shock” your guitar by subjecting it to environmental extremes.
For example, if it’s winter and your guitar is in the car for a while in snowy conditions, don’t open the case as soon as you enter a warmer environment such as a home or a club or another venue; leave it in its case with the lid closed for a period sufficient to let the instrument come up to
room temperature. For several good reasons, in fact, do not leave your guitar in the trunk of your car, or even just locked up in a vehicle’s interior.
A good case is invaluable. When you put a guitar in its case and close the lid, make sure the latches are properly engaged. Carry the case with
the lid facing toward you.
If you’re unfamiliar with making truss rod adjustments yourself, let someone who is familiar with them—such as a qualified repair professional or
experienced guitar tech—do it for you.
Don’t tune your guitar above pitch. Tune to proper pitch. A wide variety of reliable and inexpensive electronic tuners are available.
Be especially careful when flying with your guitar. Loosen the strings by a whole step or so and put it in the sturdiest and best-fitting guitar case
you can find.
Play The Heck Out Of It
Playing your guitar makes you feel great—and also makes your guitar feel great. Playing your guitar actually helps the wood it’s made of develop
tone. And the more you play your guitar, the more you’ll develop a feel for it and be able to recognize when maintenance is needed.
And it will eventually require maintenance. Guitars are machines with adjustable parts, and, like all machines, are subject to the vagaries of use,
abuse and environmental conditions. Your guitar will occasionally require service or repair, such as a setup, fret dressing or a truss rod adjustment.
There are several minor routine maintenance procedures that many guitarists are comfortable performing themselves and for which instruction
is readily available; others prefer to leave such work to qualified professionals. Either way, a well-maintained guitar will reward you with years of
enjoyment.

DATING YOUR TAKAMINE
Pro Series Models
Japanese-built Takamine Pro Series guitars can be reliably dated from the eight-digit serial numbers typically found at the neck block inside the
instruments.
The first two digits designate the year of manufacture, followed by two digits denoting the month. The remaining four digits denote the instrument’s sequential number of manufacture among all the instruments made during the month indicated.
For example, serial number 07100091 indicates a guitar built in 2007 (07), in October of that year (10), and that it was the 91st guitar made
that month (0091). Similarly, serial number 09050112 indicates the 112th guitar made during May 2009.
In mid/late 2012, US distributed Japanese-built guitars switched to the year designation that guitars distributed in Japan use. See below for the
formula used to tell the year of manufacture.
G Series models
The serial-numbering scheme for G Series Takamine models has changed several times over the years. Consequently, the best way to determine your G Series instrument’s manufacturing date is to contact Takamine by e-mail at [email protected]. We can then verify the manufacturing date.
Takamine Models Distributed in Japan
Japanese-made Takamine models distributed in Japan have their own serial-numbering scheme that can be used to reliably date them. In these
eight-digit numbers, the first two digits signify the number of years since Takamine’s establishment in 1962. The following two digits denote
the month, and the remaining four digits denote the instrument’s sequential number of manufacture among all the instruments made during the
month indicated.
For example, serial number 46090002 indicates a guitar built in 2008 (1962 plus 46 years), in September of that year (09), and that it was
the second guitar made that month (0002). Similarly, serial number 49110033 indicates the 33rd guitar made during November 2011.
Takamine Japanese Made Productions Only
This applies for overseas models from 2013
For Example; Serial Number:#51010999.
The first two digits represent the number of years from 1962 (1962 + 51 = 2013).
The second two digits are the month (01).
The last four is the sequential number from all guitars made that month.
