My Hometowns Texas Cultural & Entertainment Magazine - 3
Welcome to My Hometowns Texas
Cultural & Entertainment Magazine of Hood and Somervell Counties!
By Joe Adams
Publisher
It is my pleasure to welcome
you to the first issue of My
Hometowns Texas, Cultural
& Entertainment Magazine.
I have been in marketing and
newspapers for the last 20 years,
and I have sold ads to several of
the businesses in this area for many
years.
your valueable time.
There will be a calendar of local
events to keep you informed of
what is going on where and who
is doing what. I believe the reason
people go to the metroplex is because they are unaware of the new
establishments in this area and what
is going on locally.
I am excited to present to you the
first entertainment and cultural
magazine for your area. Culture is
defined as the pursuit of art, music,
or social events that are considered
to be valuable or enlightened. I
want this magazine to be fun for
everyone. My goal is for tourist and
residents alike to find new enjoyable activities to do in Hood, and
Somervell Counties.
Have you ever wondered where
you want to eat, what to do, or what
band is playing where? I want this
magazine to help you in making
your decision about where to spend
they will all have more business?
That is why I want to incorporate all fun activities together so
everyone can enjoy life in their own
backyard.
We hope you enjoy this first issue
of My Hometowns Texas for Hood
and Somervell County. We welcome your feedback as we experiment, tweak and fine-tune over the
next few issues. Please share your
thoughts with us and send your
events and happenings to events@
myhometownstexas.com.
We cannot say “thank you” enough
for everyone’s encouragement and
enthusiasm.
Here is a list of events we are going
to publish and I am sure you will
ask us to print more:

You probably have never heard of this guy,
Artist:
Jerry Williamson
under the instruction of Blair
Currin of Aledo. Most of his
work is now done in his home
studio near Granbury.
With no academic fine arts
background, no juried art shows,
and little professional instruction,
he just “does what he does.”
Some of it may seem a little
weird, unorthodox, and maybe
even ugly!
When asked how he sees his
art, he had this to say:
Art is a hobby for Jerry
Williamson, who is a real
estate broker in Granbury. His
in-home studio wall is lined with
dangling chains where his oil
on canvas (and some on board)
paintings hang jammed together
in cluttered fashion.
Jerry has always had
appreciation for art and those
with artistic ability. He was first
introduced to oil painting in the
1960’s when he briefly took
painting lessons from a local
teacher in a small West Texas
town. After a few years of
painting on his own, he ceased
painting for about thirty years.
In 2006 he took up the brushes
again with renewed enthusiasm,

“I am not an art instructor and
probably don’t know many
of the basic techniques. I
just do what I like to do. My
desire to paint comes in spurts.
Sometimes I have the dickens
trying to get the right color or
the right stroke. Sometimes it
is easy. When it is easy, I never
want to quit. Some of my oil on
canvas paintings started out as
designs from black and white
pencil sketches. And I usually
like my B&W sketches better
than my colorful oil on canvas,
which is my preferred medium.
My advice to anyone who has
the slightest interest in drawing
or art, especially those who are
younger and are still in school,
is to doodle and draw, doodle
and draw! And if you have
opportunity for professional
instruction, by all means
take it!”

HISTORY OF THE DRIVE IN THEATRE
family can participate in that will
take you back to yesteryear. I bet
for some of us we might have a
story or two to tell about going to
the drive-in.
The Brazos Drive-in Theater has
been around for over 50 years and,
for some of us, it is like going
back in time to one’s childhood.
We are truly blessed to still have
this working historic structure
in Granbury showing first-run
movies. I have checked facebook
and have found how many people
really like it enough to write about
their feelings of what it means to
them.
I recommend that you take anyone
to the drive-in and they will have
a good time. There is something
about being outside and breathing the fresh air with the scent of
fresh cooked food and popcorn.
You tune your car radio or your
portable radio to hear the movie.
Friday or Saturday night it is $20
double feature for a car load up to
6 people.
The Brazos drive-in has been
You can even rent the theater for

Jack the Giant Slayer 3D
“Jack the Giant Slayer” tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between
our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for
the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they
once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life
to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a
brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors
he thought only existed in legend-and gets the chance to become a
legend himself.

12 ANGRY MEN
Directed by Kent Whites
“12 Angry Men is a no excuses
drama. One of the most interesting things about 12 Angry Men
is the timelessness of the issues.
The play deals with many of the
issues that our society struggles
with today. The refusal to accept
and being threatened by other
ideas or points of view; a rush to
judgement based only on a limited
understanding of facts ; racism;
and a lack of awareness of the
enormous responsibility that each
of us have in the health of our
democracy, are just some of the
things that the characters struggle
with in 12 Angry Men.
The power of the play lies in the
www.myhometownstexas.com
characters coming to terms with
their different points of view and
the fact that the audience witnesses these men working through
those differences. 12 Angry Men is
a play that provides the actors with
a great opportunity to showcase
their talents because every role has
a strong and well defined character. Playing these roles requires
genuine and powerful emotions.
The audience experiences a drama
that is entertaining on many
different levels, but also serves
as a window with which we can
view our individual and collective
selves.”

Hollywood and Vine Restaurant

hidden behind the historic
Glen Rose square. The original
building was built in the 1890’s
and was known as the Gaither

This building stills stands and
is filled with bits of history and
a spirit that will warm your
heart. It was renovated in 2010
to become “Hollywood and
Vine”. The new beachy, surfer
like atmosphere gives customers
that vacation feel, not found at
most restaurants. It is a place
where you can just relax and
enjoy yourself and are usually
personally greeted by one of the
owners.
