objects (provide your own or we’ll have some on hand) onto the paper to create beautiful vibrant cyan blue and
white images. Sunlight ‘exposes’ the paper and is then ‘processed’ with water. Whatever your object covers results
in white tones and whatever is exposed to sun/UV rays results in blue tones. Bring your cyanotype home to air dry

It’s been over a quarter century since we participated
in the first Blueberry festival. Over the years we were
privileged to have been personal jewelers to the
SudbBerry Bear and Sudbrina our city’s mascots.
The festival has, time and again, provided free or
inexpensive events for the entire family to enjoy.
The festival is an affordable, non commercialized
community event perfect for everyone from baby
to Grandma. It’s a chance for the city to provide
Sudburians an event for all to participate in. Hopefully
the new market, our downtown restaurants, the arena
and the numerous other city venues host and promote
the festival for years to come.
Kudos to our City for giving back to the community
every year and hats off to Downtown Sudbury for
pulling it off with their limited resources.

This is Northern Ontario’s largest gem, mineral, fossil, beads,
jewellery and lapidary arts show and sale. The Show features:
dealers, including an outside dealer area on Saturday (weather
permitting); displays, including prospecting and metal detecting;
demonstrations, including flint knapping and mineral identification;
and door prizes. There are also kid’s activities, a video theatre, silent
auctions, free information handouts, and guessing contests. The
Show is rounded out by a field trip Sunday at noon, and the Greater
Sudbury Venturer and Rover Scouts’ barbecue at the Show on
Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.
One lucky visitor to the Show will be the winner of the large Brazilian
amethyst geode grand door prize valued at $750. All children
attending the Show will receive a Show favour consisting of a barite
specimen from Tracey Lake, Ontario.
Featured all weekend at this year’s Show is a certified gemologist
from the Canadian Gemological Association (Toronto, ON) who will
be providing free identification of gemstones whether they are loose
gems or set in jewellery. This is everyone’s opportunity to determine
whether they have a real gemstone or a piece of glass.
The annual Sudbury Gem and Mineral Show has something for
everyone in the family. Some visitors call this Show ‘Christmas in
July’.

Live Butterfly Release 2016
Maison Vale Hospice is excited to have Desjardins as
the title sponsor for the 2016 Desjardins Live Butterfly
Release on Sunday, July 17th at 3:30pm at Science
North in front of the Rusty Blakey Monument.
“The Vale Hospice provides an invaluable service to
our community with kindness and care. Desjardins is
very proud to be the title sponsor for the Desjardins
Live Butterfly Release this year” says Sophie Gingras,
Communications and Public Affairs Agent at Desjardins.
“Butterflies can be purchased at any Desjardins
location in the Greater Sudbury area and we also
accept donations if people wish to simply donate to the
Hospice”.
“This event is a unique opportunity to remember loved
ones by releasing a butterfly in their memory or honour,
regardless of whether they have a connection to the
Hospice or not. The butterfly was chosen by the Hospice
as it is symbolic of the beauty of nature, transformation,
and new beginnings,” shared Yolanda Thibeault,
Executive Director of the Sudbury Hospice Foundation.
“For those who cannot attend on July 17th, they can
still purchase a butterfly as a donation. The names of all
loved ones will be read at the event.”
The butterfly release has raised approximately $67,000
over the past four years. In addition to all Desjardins
branches in Greater Sudbury, butterflies can also
be purchased
at Maison Vale
Hospice, Lougheed
Family & Staff,
and Cooperative
Funeral Home, as
well as online at
www.sudbury.com
for only $30 each.
All funds will benefit
the programs and
services of Maison
