SEASON REVIEW
ACU/NORASPORT BRITISH SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP
2015 Championship Season
Report by Jackie Bradley – Pictures by Sports Events Live
Awesome, spectacular, thrilling, passionate, describing Supermoto at its best
is a test for superlatives, however it is the friendliness of the sport that makes
the most impact on first time visitors. No prima donnas hidden away in
motorhomes or bikes behind barriers, the paddock is an open friendly place with
visitors made welcome and riders helping out even their fiercest rivals.
4 | SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE
Building on the success of 2014, the 2015 British
Supermoto Championship has provided a number of
spectacular races over its 9 round series. With all
competitors restricted to Michelin tyres, individual skill
was very much to the fore. Three 20-minute races each
day meant fitness played a big part. In the good old days
riders would hastily convert Moto-X bikes and turn up
and race but today’s Supermoto bikes although in
silhouette look like their dirt-orientated cousins, in
reality they are very specialist machines. However to
help continue the rebuilding of the sport a lot of effort
has been put into generating a Novice starter class
called Give-it-a-Go and riders could turn up and race
with the minimum of expense and full grids throughout
the year was a testament to that success.
For 2015 Wigan’s Matt Winstanley was looking to not
only defend his 450 Elite crown but also take top spot
in the Open Elite Championship. Matt was again going
to ride the DCR/NPS Honda a tried and trusted package
but now effectively 5 years old. Chris Hodgson ended
his long association with KTM to move to Husqvarna
with the Skyzone/SPR team, this was due to the policy
change at KTM with the Austrian marque transferring
supermoto bikes to the iconic Swedish brand.
The top two would again be challenged by a number of
riders, notably Lewis Cornish on board his CRT TM, the
Norfolk youngster as always had the speed but was
now displaying maturity and race craft to go with the
speed, his TM’s were lightning fast and looked to be the
package to beat. With Davey Todd, who so nearly won
in 2014, moving on to road racing there was an
opportunity for Swanley’s Ben Robb to push for a title
on his LSP TM. Londoner Jay Smith had gained a lot of
experience in his comeback year in 2014 and was
equipped with a pair of ex GP KTM’s in the Skyzone
team and would no doubt be a tough competitor.
Northern grit and determination has always featured in
Supermoto racing and this is personified in the two
Richards, Sharp and Blakeman. From opposite sides of
the Pennines they are fast and consistent especially in
difficult conditions, it would be no surprise to see either
take to the podium. From even further North two top
Scottish riders committed themselves to the season,
Scott Murray (Scotlifts TM) and Jamie Duncan (CSS
KTM) were doughty competitors and Murray in
particular had shown that he was a force to be reckoned
with gaining speed and cutting out the crashes that had
riddled his 2014 debut year.
Newcomers to the class included 2014 Michelin Cup
Winner and semi-pro ice hockey player Jordan Bannon
from Merseyside, he was using a very fast but again
ageing ex Ben Robb KTM and would surprise a few
people. Open National winner Mikey Parsons had
bought a new TM and many in the paddock felt the
Midlands youngster was going to be the next big thing.
They were joined by York based ex-road racer Ben
Handley again on a TM.
SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE | 5
With established stars Dale O’Connor (KTM) Graeme
Norris (KTM) Ollie Kemp (TM), Tim Johnson (Husqvarna)
, brother & sister Tom and Kayla Barrington (Honda &
KTM) John Earnshaw (Honda), Mike Ford (Honda) &
Owen Connell (Honda) 2015 was a fast and furious year
in the Elites.
Round 1 opened at Easter at the fantastic Three Sisters
complex near Wigan, with up to 8 circuit layouts
available and a permanent tarmac “off-road” section it
is the best all round venue in the country. With Matt
Winstanley living within 5 minutes of the entrance many
think that this gives him an advantage but with all the
top competitors having raced here 100’s of times then
really this is just psychological. However it appeared
anything but as the ex GP star put on a faultless display
of riding to win all six races over both days. Lewis
Cornish , Chris Hodgson and Jay Smith all got on the
podium and pushed him hard but Winstanley was in a
different class on the day.
Saturday and Jay Smith the bronze on Sunday. These
two riders had titanic battles all weekend.
their performance but this time Richard Sharp managed
to wrest third place from Blakeman.
Supermoto tracks are normally 80% tarmac and 20%
off road but the exception to this rule is Rednal near
Oswestry, a 50/50 split between dirt & tar with big
jumps means that the more MX orientated riders usually
come out on top. The 450 Elite races saw a confident
Lewis Cornish take a fine overall in Round 4 from Smith
& Winstanley, who had two bike failures on the day. The
Norfolk youngster had elected to only race in the 450
class this year and is absence on Sunday gave others
the opportunity for a podium especially with Hodgson
unable to ride after breaking a finger in Australia the
week before. In the Open Elite races Winstanley was
bang back on form with three wins from Jay Smith and
Richard Blakeman.
Round 9 for the finale at the atmospheric and iconic
Cadwell Park, the mini Nurburging as it is known as in
British Motorsport because of its undulating nature with
the brilliant “Mountain” providing thrilling action. With
weather more appropriate to a August Bank Holiday
than the weekend clocks went back the Racing Gods
certainly smiled on British Supermoto.
Back to Wigan in glorious sunshine for Round 5 and a
different variation of the 3 Sisters complex. Maybe this
is where the season really started as Winstanley
struggled all weekend, crashes and bike problems
blighted his races and much to everyone’s delight,
Saturday saw Jay Smith take his maiden championship
victory from Lewis Cornish and Hodgson in third. In the
Open Elite Hodgson ran out a narrow winner from the
improving Scott Murray with Jay Smith in third.
Round 6 was held at Teesside Autodrome
Middlesbrough, a fast flowing track that is run in reverse
direction on Sundays. Hodgson had certainly found a lot
of speed for his Husqvarna and edged a 3-point victory
from Cornish in the clockwise 450 Elite races with
Winstanley third. The anti-clockwise Open races had
Hodgson in fine form with a 3 win maximum from
Winstanley in second and Jay Smith being rewarded for
his long trip North with third spot.
If Winstanley had home advantage in Round 1 Hodgson
certainly had it in Round 2 as the circus moved on to
Rowrah in the South West Lake District. Most riders love
the tight and twisty track but weather conditions can
play havoc with race day decisions. Again Winstanley
was on top form winning 5 out of 6 races to take top
spot in both classes. Chris Hodgson appeared to be
struggling with his Husqvarna and couldn’t really mount
a serious challenge but still got two second overalls.
Ben Robb was magnificent on the Saturday getting third
place and on Sunday Scott Murrays potential was
realised as he got third overall in the Open Elite.
Another track back on the schedule after a few year
absence was Lydden Hill in Kent, very fast and not
particularly technical it provided the closest racing seen
all year. In the 450 Class Lewis Cornish dominated and
took the overall from Jay Smith with Winstanley third,
for the Open class Jay Smith was top dog from
Winstanley second and Hodgson third.
Back on the calendar after 5 years, Round 3 was the
seaside track at Crail in Fife, much hard work by a small
band of enthusiasts had created a fantastic venue,
which many thought, was now the best in the
Championship. Matt Winstanley continued where he had
left off and it began to appear that the season was
already over. The Wigan Whippet took all 6 races in
ominous style and he looked like he had more in
reserve. Hodgson was again the bridesmaid on both
days with second spot. Scott Murray got third on
Round 8 was back to Three Sisters, however a
combination of injuries and absences due to the
Supermoto of Nations clashing meant that a smaller
than usual field turned out with many riders electing to
use this as their dropped round. Although light in
numbers the racing was truly epic with Hodgson and
Winstanley locked in wheel-to-wheel battles throughout
the entire weekend. In the 450 Elite Hodgson came out
on top from Winstanley, with a hard riding Blakeman in
third. On Sunday Hodgson and Winstanley repeated
6 | SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE
Three riders, Matt Winstanley, Chris Hodgson and Lewis
Cornish could be crowned 450 Elite champion going
into this final round of 9, the worst round was dropped
meaning best eight scores to count. Winstanley was in
pole position but he had points to drop whilst Cornish &
Hodgson each had a no score round. However it was
Hodgson that took the overall with his 2 wins and a
second from Cornish, Winstanley was third, Jay Smith
was 4th and Richard Sharp (KTM) 5th. More importantly
though Hodgson was the new British 450 Elite
Champion by a narrow 3-point margin from Winstanley,
the whole series coming down to a last lap move in the
very last race of the first day.
Going into the last round of the Elite feeder series, the
Michelin Cup, Steve Ellis (Husqvarna) knew he would
need Charlie Light (KTM) to have a calamity to stand
any chance of securing the crown. In the event the
Wiltshire youngster ran out with maximum points, even
coming from dead last in the final race after a fall to
secure victory. South African Dirk Jordaan (KTM) was
second from Isle of Man road racer Ian Raybon (KTM)
enjoying his debut in Supermoto racing. As well as being
crowned Michelin Cup Champion for 2015 Charlie was
also named Riders Rider of the year, a tremendous
accolade for the 16 year old.
George Jarvis (Husqvarna) wrapped up the NPS GIAG
Novice Cup, the championship for Supermoto
newcomers, but he had to settle for second on the day
as local boy Max Wybrow (Husqvarna) took an
impressive 3 race maximum. Ashley Middleton (Honda)
was third.
With Winstanley losing one Championship the previous
day he showed his intent on day two in the Open Elite
by setting pole on his Honda, but he was only a narrow
4 hundredths margin ahead of Chris Hodgson on board
the Husqvarna. Jay Smith (KTM) was also right in
contention a further 0.14 second behind, Tom BoothAmos (Honda) took the final front row spot. Only 1
second covered the first 10 places, so close racing was
going to be the order of the day. And so it prove with
some of the most epic and breath-taking racing you
could wish for, leaving the large crowd gasping as lap
after lap in all 3 races the lead changed time & time
again. Fittingly Winstanley took the overall win to clinch
the title on his 5 year old Honda as Hodgson had done
on the Saturday to win his 450 Elite crown. Hodgson
was 2nd, Jay Smith 3rd Davey Todd 4th and Scott
Murray 5th. A fantastic finale that will long live in the
memory of those that witnessed it.
Andy Mitchell decided to go old school
to try to clinch his Open National
title from his main rival Charlie
Light so out came the 650
Husaberg he last campaigned
in the 2006 series when he
was National Champion. As
in the Elite races these two
put on a spectacular display
of neck and neck racing
with Mitchell sliding the
big ‘Berg into the
hairpins in real old
school
Supermoto
style. No
matter what
he did
though he
couldn’t
unsettle the
Wiltshire boy
and Charlie took
all three wins but this
wasn’t enough and Andy
Mitchell clinched two
titles, the Open National
and the Over 45’s.
2015 showed what
Supermoto is all about,
breath-taking no holds
barred racing from
committed riders on a
variety of circuits but still
with that friendly
atmosphere that
motorcycle racing seems
to have lost in other
disciplines – here’s to a
repeat in 2016.

#1 CHRIS HODGSON
10 British Championships
Australian Champion / IMF Malaysia Champion
28 years old and from West Cumbria.
How old where you when you first rode a supermoto bike?
I started riding supermoto at 16 in the KTM Junior Cup. My first round was at Lydd.
Favourite UK track and why?
My favourite track has to be Teesside. Just for its variation of fast and slow corners and
elevation changes.
Riders that inspired you?
The fella that everyone wanted to be while I was growing up was Thierry van den Bosch
4x world champion.
Which bike and team are you riding for this year?
I am riding the 2016 FS Husqvarna for SJP team.
In one paragraph describe the way you ride a Supermoto bike?
I'd say I'm quite a smooth relaxed rider on the track, but if I need to get rough then I'm
not scared of putting my elbows up.
8 | SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE
The Elite class sees World-class rider’s battle it out for the ultimate accolade in British Supermoto. All competitors
have to run Michelin Supermoto race tyres although they can choose their own compounds - this ensures that it
is the riders performance that comes out on top as tyre performance is even across the board.. Races will
normally last between 15-20 minutes a real test of speed, endurance & skill.

The gateway to Elite status this championship is a hard fought battle as riders out to make a name for
themselves fight tooth and nail with established competitors. Any capacity bike up to 950cc is allowed however
the majority of bikes will be based on the 450cc Single cylinder MX bikes from the major Japanese & European
manufacturers. This an open tyre championship so anything goes. The winner at the end of the year collects a
slipper clutch from the world-renowned Swiss manufacturer Suter worth around £1000.

The Open National is a fantastically competitive class with a mixture of up and coming riders mixing it with
established stars who in some cases are ex-Elite riders. The riders qualify in timed practice and are split into 2
groups A & B based on their time as a percentage of the fastest lap set, however the top 15 riders from the 2015
championship are seeded into the A group. Within this class there are 3 sub groups Over 45’s, 2-Strokes and
Clubman with a championship for each class at the year-end. This series is again open to any make of tyre.

You know when the 900 Superlites hit the circuit, the
infectious sound of the Honda Fireblade engine fills the
venue and the fast paced action leaves you as worn out
as the drivers post race! Simon Nutter running the No.1
plate from last year had all the plans in place to defend
his title however the 14 other cars on the grid had
different ideas. Once the lights had gone out and rubber
laid down the big boys did battle. Phil Lee the super
smooth Norfolk farmer took home a well deserved third
from Nutter. Once the dust has settled at the front Mark
Richardson No. 17 claimed victory only two points
ahead of Duncan Macbeth No.150, last seasons 2nd
place man.
The championship rolled on to Blyton Park in
Lincolnshire for round two. Both classes were incredibly
close and had gained extra drivers since once the
season got underway, the 900 Superlite class ended
with three points separating the four drivers at the top.
Jake Difuria No.25 made good use of his home
advantage, taking joint overall highest points, however
Simon Nutter who also scored 95 points was able to
take the win by scoring the best last race result. Phil
Lee No.25 claimed third with 93 points and Macbeth on
92 points just behind. The Superlite 600 drivers did not
disappoint in terms of spectacle, Swann and Turner
fought tooth and nail all day, Jake Swann eventually
came out on top by one point. The battle for the last spot
on the podium went to Tim Page after some fantastic
competition from Antony Jackson No.41 who following
technical difficulties missed out on the chance of a
podium.
SEASON REVIEW
NORASPORT BRITISH SUPERLITE CHAMPIONSHIP
2015 Championship Season
Report by Mike Taylor – Pictures by Sports Events Live
Before we get caught up in the excitement of the season
ahead, it would be a good time to reflect on the wealth
of action that took place last year.
With competitor licenses up for the fifth consecutive
year, it was clear from the outset the action was going
to be intense. The very nature of the sport attracts
drivers from a host of motorsport backgrounds, and
each bring with them different personalities and driving
styles. With a formula that ensures a level playing field,
the result is countless adrenaline pumping overtakes
and wheel to wheel action you will struggle to find
elsewhere.
The British Championship kicked off at Three Sisters
near Wigan, one of the birthplaces of Superlite racing
20 | SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE
and a source of breath taking action from start light to
chequered flag. New Race suits, fresh colour schemes
and graphics, the drivers on top of their mental game,
everything was in place for the spectacle to begin.
The Superlite 600 championship, featuring snappy
600cc two stroke engines and CVT transmission, had
shown up in force. Reigning champion Jake Swann
No.110 proved to be a strong as ever, however Tony
Turner No.84 managed to snatch the first pole position
of the season by 5/100th of a second. Once racing got
underway, despite the best efforts of Tim Page No.5
from West Yorks, Phil Redfearn who was last years
runner-up and Tony Turner, they couldn't match the
racecraft from Swann who took home maximum points
for the round.
Pembrey Race Circuit in Wales hosted the Third and
Fourth round of the Championship with a thrilling double
header. The event was run in conjunction with the
BTRDA National Rallycross championship and we were
proud to come away as the overall fastest category of
the meeting by over a second a lap. The fast open layout
mixed up the results and rewarded a precise driving
style. This played out well for Kent-based Jake Swann,
taking two victories on each day. Notably making one
of the most impressive overtakes of the season coming
into the sweeping off-road section sideways at over 80
mph and making the clean pass at the same time.
However he did not have it easy, Turner kept him honest
throughout the whole weekend taking two wins in the
process. Notable mentions go to Ian Biswell No.113 and
Gordon Knox No.47 both showing their ability to adapt
to the style of circuit and bringing home solid points for
their championship. The 900 Class contenders couldn't
get enough flowing corners and ability to make the most
of their 6 speed gearbox. Oxfordshire’s Duncan Macbeth
showed his talent once again in Round 3 but Nutter
managed to wrestle the victory from him in Round 4.
Wisbech Heavy Recovery expert Charlie Welbourne
No.74 took to the circuit straight away and earned
himself joint second overall in Round Three with Jake
Difuria. Phil Lee who will be competing for his 25th
season in 2016 was third overall in Round Four. Mark
Rushton of Bolton was starting to push the front-runners
until an unfortunate accident that put him out of
contention.
Back to the Three Sisters motorsport complex near
Wigan for Round Five of the championship, the weather
and tyre choice proved to be decisive factor in the
results. Tony Turner in his Superlite 600 found his form
and was the man to beat taking the first two victories
and the overall. It wasn't until Race Three his main rival
Jake Swann was able to get the better of him.
Experienced quad racer Mike Taylor put in an
appearance and took the third spot of the podium after
holding off a strong challenge from Gordon Knox, Paul
Hudson and Jody Hicks No. 24 of Doncaster. With the
season at the halfway mark the drivers were doing their
utmost to add to their points totals. The Superlite 900
championship was still separated by a handful of points
at the top, current leader Macbeth threw everything he
had but missed out on victory by one point to Nutter
No.19 who put together a clean set of races. Welbourne
kept up his form to keep Richardson behind him and
secure third overall.
Teeside Autodrome played host to round six of the
British Superbike Championship, the circuit features a
number of technical sections connected by a long
straight and huge 180° sweeping bend. Extremely
popular with all the drivers the meeting had a large
entry. Phil Redfearn No.50 regained some of last
seasons form to earn a solid 4th place and a few
blistering laps which showed his potential. Nothing
could stop confident Jake Swann from taking all three
victories from Turner in second. The Honda powered
machines require smooth driver input for success here,
The man for the job was Difuria, who held off a furious
challenge from Richardson all day. Wayne Harris
number 59 proved he is a force to be reckoned with and
out-raced the championship leader behind him to take
third position.
For 2015 the championship re-visited Lydden Hill Race
Circuit in Kent, the World Rallycross Circuit provides
some extremely high top speeds and a spectacular offroad section. With the differing circuit came a different
set of victors. Superlite 600 veteran Paul Hudson
displayed his experience and converted some good
starts into an overall win. Second-place was separated
by one point with Tony Turner coming out on top from
southerner Anthony Jackson. Championship leader Jake
Swann suffered some bad luck after taking two victories
which pushed him right out of the points. The bright

yellow 900 Superlite of Mark Richardson was the target
for the grid and he kept it that way taking the overall
with 100 points. Macbeth and Lee shared 88 points
while Team Absolute Concrete driver Mark Rushton was
not far behind on 79.
October, circuit temperatures are getting lower, the
weather more unpredictable and championship points
more crucial. We returned to 3 Sisters for another
different layout at the race complex for round eight. The
600 championship had come down to a battle between
two teams and Turner needed to keep Swann behind
him to keep his championship hopes alive. After
qualifying on pole it looked possible but once the racing
was in full swing he couldn't make it stick. Biswell and
Taylor got in the mix and finished equal on 92 points
but couldn't doing anything about Swann taking home
maximum points and the 2015 championship at the
same time. The top 7 drivers in the 900 championship
qualified within a second of one another. This set the
mood for the whole round as drivers battled for every
inch of the Tarmac with no runaway winner until
Richardson clinched it at the end from Macbeth and
Difuria in third, only 1 point ahead of Harris in 4th.
The finale at Cadwell Park is something the fans and
drivers look forward to from the offset. Not only did the
rain stay away but daylight held well above average for
the time of year. With the championship in the bag and
the pressure off Team Big666 driver Jake Swann looked
set to give it everything. However Lady Luck chose
otherwise and despite two wins his machine decided it
wasn't playing ball. This left the overall wide open and
22 | SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE
everyone wanted a piece of the action. The top four
drivers were within a 5 point range at the end of the day
with Yorks Tony Turner taking the honours, Ian Biswell
a very close second and Paul Hudson pushing them all
the way for third. Sadie Redfearn No.55, the best
looking driver in the paddock, took no mercy on the
boys and grabbed a top 5 finish during the day. Her
team manager and father Phil ended his season with a
win and fastest lap in the final race of the season.
The 2015 Superlite 900 championship was conquered
by Duncan Macbeth despite having a poor day at
Cadwell, he had done enough work earlier in the season
to earn the title. Mark Richardson who seemed a new
man for the second half of the season continued his top
form and took victory in 3 out of 3 races. Rushton No.22
finished his season on a high with his best result of 94
points and second place overall in Round 9. Mark has
been an incredible part of the community all season
helping numerous individuals and deserves the
success. The distinctive blue and yellow striped
Superlite of Charlie Welbourn finished the day in third
after some tough battles to get to the front.
Which is your favourite track & why?
Got to be Cadwell Park, just love going into Charlie's at the end of
the straight at 120 mph and of course the mountain in front of the
club house.
Which driver influenced you the most?
I was Inspired by Ayrton Senna and Colin McRae.
How would you describe your driving style?
On practice days I drive like a hoon drifting around having lots of
fun, but on race days I try to be smooth, neat and calm, but
aggressive at the same time.
With some new talent entering for the 2016 season, its
going to be an even more exciting year of motorsport,
with all the drivers running to the same set of
Regulations, it all comes down to car setup and driver
form on the day. We look forward to seeing you at the
first Championship round on the 28th of March back
here at Three Sisters. For more information on the series

This class is for the rider who is starting out their career in Supermoto racing or for riders who just want a bit of
fun. However the front-runners get very competitive and as the season goes on the mood gets more serious as
the riders in with a chance to win a British title push for pole position. Like the other non-Elite groups any make
of tyres go but you might see a wider variety of bikes as some race their road going bikes and even ride them
home after competing.

SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE | 25
Over the years we have seen many famous faces from
the world of bikesport jumped on board a supermoto
within the British Championship including the likes of the
late TT master David Jefferies, John McGuiness, Connor
Cummins and a plethora of BSB, Motocross and enduro
riders alike.
There are limited top forms of motorsport where you can
walk around the paddock and access riders and teams
easily....and that’s the difference with supermoto, we want
you to feel part of the event. Supermoto riders are friendly
folk and approachable so don’t be afraid to ask questions,
ask for their autograph or a quick sellfie.
Three Sisters offers not only great facilities, but moreover
some of the best vantage points to see all the action from
one spot if you wish. Make sure you take stroll around to
pick your best spot, either from high on the banking, to
getting close up on the perimeter of Lunar Bend, I can
assure you wherever you pitch up the action will take your
breath away.
Supermoto UK
In terms of promoting supermoto in recent years there had
been little to bring awareness to the masses other than
some excellent magazines such as 'Supermoto
International Magazine, forums and word of mouth so
predominantly supermoto was becoming an underground
sport for the few. Seeing the potential we had within our
grasp, it just needed some planning and a concerted effort
to develop a brand to market the sport to a wide audience.

Welcome to the opening round of the 2016 British Supermoto Championship
here at the undisputed ‘Spiritual Home’ of supermoto in the UK.
I would like to introduce you all to ‘Supermoto UK’ and give you an insight into
itís background and the active part we play in developing awareness of our
beloved sport.
For myself supermoto has formed a large part in my life and following from the
earliest days has allowed me to see the ups and downs of the sport over many
years. There will be great deal of you out there today who will be witnessing
supermoto for the first time and I can assure you once you see the riders in
action you will soon be planning your next visit..!
26 | SUPERMOTO & SUPERLITE
Formed in 2013 the concept of 'Supermoto UK' was born
via the social media platform Facebook with a member’s
only group used to bring together positive, like minded
supermoto enthusiasts and racers allowing the word to
spread that there was plenty of potential to bring the sport
to the forefront of bike enthusiasts minds.
We now have a presence on all social media applications,
such as Twitter, Facebook and Istagram and with numbers
of followers growing daily, allowing greater ability to
spread the word about news or events. We operate on a
not for profit basis, but do seek sponsorship to assist with
the running costs of the website and events and without
these dedicated supporters behind the scenes most of
what we do would not be possible. We run competitions
in conjunction with many of our supporting partners and
also have a range of merchandise such as T-shirts,
hoodies and jackets to purchase via our website.
Nameplate Services Give it a Go Cup
Our website www.supermotouk.com is packed with
useful information, which has a unique twist as its
packed with information for novice racers, or those
wishing to try the sport for the first time via the popular
‘Give it a Go Cup’. The concept of the 'Give it a Go Cup'
was the brainchild of myself and Billy Holt after
identifying a gap in the market which would potentially
bring new riders into the sport in a cost effective, fun
and supportive manner. Taking advice from one of the
legends of supermoto, Dave Clarke of Dave Clarke
Racing the 'Give it a Go Challenge' (at the time) was
launched with the help of Steve Berry at a Southern
Supermoto meeting back in September 2013.
Since this time we have witnessed a continued growth
in popularity of this class as many first timers take
tentative, supported steps out on track to experience
the thrills of supermoto first hand. For many competing
in this class its the inspiration to progress through the
ranks and with past winners of the overall
championships including Gio Pirras, Ashley Middleton
and George Jarvis giving high praise to the class there
is much more scope to grow the sport in this area.
Looking back just three years since launch the class
has seen a significant rise in entry numbers, from just
nine riders on the first grid back in 2013, to 48 riders
registered in the 2015 championship.
If you are standing there on the sidelines today, with a
