Sponsored by Easter Seals South Dakota
FRIENDS,
B
ecause you are one of South
Dakota’s most successful CEO’s,
it’s likely that you know something about heavy workloads,
JOE FOSS
high pressure schedules and accelerated
lifestyles.
Your achievements, however, probably leave
you with less time to enjoy South Dakota’s
great outdoors than you’d like. So I’m inviting
you to join a small group of your peers from
across the state for what I believe will be an
experience that can’t be duplicated anywhere in
the world. We’re going to combine one of our
state’s great traditions, the fall pheasant hunt,
with golf at the region’s only Scottish links
course and walleye fishing on the incomparable
Lake Oahe.
You’ll participate in a very different kind of
investment seminar, “Run the Bulls, Bait the
Bears,” and relish a stunning seven-course meal
prepared with a flare for the wild side.
Through it all, you’ll have some experts and
celebrities by your side. For example, you’ll
hunt pheasants with Minnesota Vikings Mick
Tingelhoff and Wally Hilgenberg and cast your
lines with In-Fisherman magazine founders Al
and Ron Lindner.
This retreat is being sponsored by Easter
Seals South Dakota, an organization that wants
you to understand that like every CEO who’s
worth his corner office, individuals with
disabilities are risk-takers. They are people who
routinely reach beyond their limitations, leap
when they don’t know how far they’ll fall and
stick with it against impossible odds. Look into
their eyes and I think you’ll see yourself at your
very best.
I hope you’ll decide to join in this Easter
Seals celebration of all that’s great in South
Dakota.
—JOE FOSS
A PHEASANT HUNT TO REMEMBER
here’s crimson in the turning leaves,
a vanilla glow in the harvest moon
and a pheasant cackle in the wind—
it’s fall in South Dakota.
Celebrate the season with us by hunting the
T
fields and native grasslands of a 20,000-acre,
world-class preserve—Cheyenne Ridge just north
of Pierre. You’ll have Minnesota Viking star Wally
Hilgenberg and Mick Tingelhoff by your side to
call that lucky shot “skill” and the inevitable miss
a “fluke.” They’ll be there at the cocktail hour
and into the evening, so if you’re beginning to
think that your job is tough, you might ask Wally
and Mick what it’s like to go to work on game
day in the NFL.

TEE OFF AT THE TRAILS!
f it’s golf that gets your attention, the
Trails located along Lake Oahe will keep
you focused. Modeled on the traditional
Scottish links courses, the Trails has it
all—deep rough, magnificent rolling fairways
and lush, well protected greens.
I
And you’ll want to give special attention to the
8th hole. Any guest with a hole-in-one on
the 8th will take home a 2001 Chevrolet
Silverado pickup with a 20-foot Triton fishing
boat and 125 hp Mercury motor attached.

CAST A LINE WITH THE LINDNERS
t won’t matter if you only wet a line
occasionally or fish competitively at
the tournament level, Ron and Al
Lindner will fascinate you. Publishers
of In-Fisherman magazine and producers of
a nationally syndicated television show, the
Lindners will ignore their millions of fans
I
to offer their expertise to you—one-on-one.
Share a boat, share a sandwich and enjoy
walleye fishing with the very best on the
incomparable Lake Oahe.

RUN THE BULLS, BAIT THE BEARS
I
f you give any thought to the capital
markets, and who doesn’t, you’ll find
South Dakota’s Investment Officer Steve
Myers’ presentation “Happy Days: The
Bull Market of the ’80s & ’90s” is a fascinating
glimpse into the thinking of one of America’s
most successful public fund managers. Steve’s
investment performance over the last 28 years
has been unsurpassed in the public sector and
clearly places him among the nation’s experts.
Steve’s presentation will be followed by the
contrasting views of two nationally known
experts from Alliance
Bernstein Institutional Investment
Management—
Michael Palmer,
Senior Portfolio
Manager in U.S.
equities and Daniel Nordby, Senior Vice
President and Large Cap Growth Portfolio
Manager. Dan will make his case for a bull
market during the next five years while Mike
will attempt to convince you to be a bear.
The seminar will conclude with an open
discussion during which you’ll have your
opportunity to comment, question and maybe
take a run at the bull or bait the bear.

OME A RISK- TAKER FOR EASTER SEALS
ECOME
DEAR EXECUTIVE,
ou didn’t become one of South
Dakota’s best because you are naïve.
So you know that Easter Seals is
sponsoring this event with a purpose
in mind.
We believe that given the opportunity, you will
recognize something of yourself in the courage of
the individual with disabilities. We believe that you
will see that a disability, like any problem confronting a business, can be managed as long as the
resources are available. We also believe that you
will come to understand that Easter Seals plays a
critical role in providing those resources in our
state.
Our organization, like the clients it serves, is a
Y
risk-taker. Therefore, we are inviting you to attend
the Executives Outdoor Retreat without making an
initial financial commitment or paying a fee to cover
our expenses. We see the retreat as an investment in
you, in our clients and in our organization. If we fail
to perform during the retreat, we will expect to bear
the consequences.
Like any good risk-taker, however, our actions
are based on the potential for a high return. We
think that in addition to seeing something of
yourself in people with disabilities, you will see
something of your values in the Easter Seals
organization. You will see a group of dedicated and
disciplined professionals who understand how to get
things done. If so, we are confident that you will
want to become a stockholder in Easter Seals by
BE A RISK-TAKER FOR EASTER SEALS
making a contribution of $3,500 or more. When
you do, we believe that you will begin to enjoy
dividends that will continue for a lifetime.
Sincerely,
Patricia K. Miller
