Pulag Sacred Ground, the highest mountain in Luzon and the second in the Philippines from May 2 - 4, 2008 using the Akiki-Ambangeg Route. He deserves commendation for observing the Cultural Code of Conduct in the area and the Mountaineer’s Credo. He is now included in the Mt. Pulag National Park’s book of honorary climbers. Pulag National Park Experience LEARNINGS ABOUT ENVIRONMENT AND BIODIVERSITY The mountain climbers have the privilege to learn during the park visit. The orientation before ascent to the park (film showing, discussion, post climb evaluation, village encounter)/psychological & physical preparation, the exchange of information with the indigenous people during the trek The guests learn from the guides/porters and park workers on the biodiverse indigenous plants in the park including their uses; The climbers are warned or informed of the poisonous plants to avoid and medicinal plants to use in case of emergency; DENR-DOT Forum on the Implementation of the National Ecotourism Program Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, 9-Jul-2013 Annex E – The Mt. Some just go to the office for orientation and film showing as part of their exposure/experience. Pulag National Park Experience PAST EXPERIENCE Unsynchronized rescue team to assist vehicular accidents or emergencies on site from Baguio City to the park. The park management has to make do of what is available at the time of crises especially during holidays and week ends. The PA Office/PASu caters to travelers extending beyond the park’s coverage. Most government offices are closed during holidays and week ends. Unreliable PAGASA reports due to the distance of the monitoring station in Baguio City to the park and the unique and unpredictable weather of the park PAST EXPERIENCE No contingency fund for PNP to use during rescue operations (vehicle/gasoline, food to provide for volunteers in mountain) Pinoy reception – (padala system, pabantay system, walang iwanan concepts) The PASu and park doing post evaluation interviews are helpful in improving the park management; . Pulag National Park Experience 24/7 park management is appreciated by the public and the guests. Some travelers in adjacent areas ask for directions during holidays knowing that the PA Office is open DESIRED PARTNERSHIP 1. Identification of Training Needs of the guides and porters jointly; 2. Special Accreditation of Transportation, travel agents/organizers and Guides in Protected Areas including the provision of standard IDs should be synchronized with the involvement of the PAMB and the community; 3. Geohazard mapping of ecotourism sites as basis for establishing recreation sites Construction of more visitor friendly vulcanizing shops, gasoline shops along strategic sites from Baguio City via Ambuclao highway to Mt. Pulag routes. Pulag National Park Experience EXPECTATIONS IN THE FUTURE Establishment of quality home stays Standardized billboards for restaurants and other business establishments along highways indicating the location with sitio, barangay, town, province and region after the name of the establishment that will inform the travelers on their location) from Manila to the Point of Origin, travelers at night need directions during risky situations. EXPECTATIONS IN THE FUTURE Established Highway Therapy Clinics with the paramedics station for travelers use to save lives and to provide employment.
