“KOMETA 120M” / “KOMETA 120R” HISTORY OF CREATION
“Kometa 120M/ R” was designed on the basis of 30-year long experience of designing and
developing the following hydrofoil vessels: “Kometa”, “Kolkhida” and “Katran”
“Kometa” Hydrofoil
In total 172 vessels were built in years 1980-1990, many
of them are still in use in Greece, Italy, Croatia, Cabo
Verde, Bulgaria and Russia
“Kolkhida” Hydrofoil
In total 42 vessels were built in the in years 1980-1990,
several are currently in use in Greece, Italy, Croatia,
Bulgaria and Russia
“Katran” Hydrofoil
3 vessels were built, 2 of them are currently in use: both
in Russia

Passenger transportation at daylight in compartments equipped
with plane-type of seats
AREA OF OPERATION
Seas with a tropical climate R3-RSN (with waves of Hв3% = 2,0 m).
Maximum distance from a shelter place in open sea - 50 miles
VESSEL CLASS
Class of КМ [2] Hydrofoil Craft Passenger-A at the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping
Classification Society. Vessels can be at request classified at the Bureau Veritas or other
classification society

Cruise speed at quiet waters - not less than 35 knots (45 knots for “Kometa 120R”)
SEA-GOING CAPABILITIES
Safe navigation in foilborne mode guaranteed with wave heights up to Hв3% = 2,0 m and
winds of FORCE 5 (Beaufort scale). With wave heights up to Hв3% = 2,5 m and winds up to
FORCE 8 (Beaufort scale) safe navigation in a displacement mode is guaranteed

MAIN DIFFERENCES FROM EARLIER DESIGNS OF
“KOMETA” AND “KOLKHIDA“ HYDROFOILS
Better comfort for passengers and
crew achieved through:
• use of the automatic system of
rolling and pitching moderation
“Serdolik (Cornelian) 120М”,
• use of the HVAC system
manufactured by “Daikin” Japan
• passenger accommodation in the bow and the mid-ship sections, business class
located in the bow section
• double-glazed windows installed in the pilot house and in the bar
• use of the vibration-absorbing materials
Lesser fuel consumption as result of application of novelty engines 16V2000
M72 by MTU, Germany (with electronic injection of fuel)

DELIVERY
A vessel could be delivered to a customer:
• on its own.
• on top of a deck of the freighter ship

SERVICE AND ON-SHORE STORAGE
• Hydrofoil is to be stored on regular keel blocks that make part of the delivery kit
• Lifting (launching) of a hydrofoil is done with the use of a cross-arm equipped with
cables and the “buttons” that are mounted on the vessel’s hull in a regular mode
