Prime Minister David Cameron has recently emphasized the need to improve fostering care in
Britain. Fostering is crucially important in the society. It can make a real difference in child's life. It
provides warmth, care and security to a vulnerable child. It brings a smile back on his face. It gives
him a happy childhood, which is the right of every child. Apart from the child, fostering brings a lot of
job satisfaction to the foster carer. To look after a helpless child is obviously an act of kindness and
compassion.
This issue brings you the information needed for those who would like to be foster carers. It includes
the procedure to get registered as a foster carer. It also highlights the fact that there is a shortage of
foster carers in our community. There are many Muslim children who are in need of foster care, but
there are no families who would be willing to take them up.
This creates problems related to faith, social norms and identity for the child. The purpose of this
write-up is to increase awareness in the community regarding foster care.

SAUDI ARABIA TO STOP ACCEPTING UMRAH VISA APPLICATIONS

claim researchers.
They estimate that 846 more
men and 155 extra women
took their own lives between
2008 and 2010 than would
have been expected if
previous trends had
continued.
Unemployment blackspots

Barr, of the University of
Liverpool, who led the study,
published on the British
Medical Journal’s website.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj has
announced that the deadline
for Umrah visa applications
from around the world will end
now.
In a letter signed by the
Director-General of Umrah
services at the ministry, Abdul
Aziz Damanhouri, and quoted
in several press reports, as
saying the deadline will be in
effect at 11.59pm on July 17,
which will be also Sha’aban
27.
“This is a routine procedure,
that is taken every year,” said a
Saudi diplomat contacted by
Gulf News for more
clarifications on the
announcement.
“Every year, we are requested
not to accept any visa
application for Umrah” said
Adnan Al Zubei, head of
“Shahba’a Organisers”, one of
the Umrah organisers in
Dubai.
Applications are sent online to
the Saudi Hajj Ministry. Once
the approval is received, the
concerned organiser has 14
days to apply for the visa at the
Saudi consulate. It takes 7 to
14 days to get a visa.
According to estimates, the
number of Umrah performers
this year could hit 5.5 million,
recording an increase of five to
10 per cent from the previous
year. Last year, nearly 5.2
million Umrah visas were
issued, according to Saudi
officials.
“Until July 1, about 3.8 million
Umrah pilgrims entered the
Kingdom, which is an increase
of 400,000 compared to the
same period last year,” the
minister said. “Currently there
are 290,000 pilgrims in the
holy cities of Makkah and
Madinah. The rest have
already returned to their
countries.”

MAYOR OF BOLTON ON TARGET FOR FITNESS GOAL
The Mayor of Bolton is half way through a personal fitness campaign to raise money for his Mayoral
charities and is set to hit his target weight of 12 stone.
Councillor Guy Harkin has been working with a personal trainer at Westhoughton Leisure Centre
over the last six weeks, aiming to lose weight and reduce his Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a
way of calculating if a person’s weight is appropriate for their height.
He visited Westhoughton Leisure Centre on Tuesday 26 June for his first weigh-in and BMI
calculation. At the time he weighed 13 and a half stone and was set a target weight of 12 stone. He
is over half way towards his target, through following a diet and exercise plan including regular
sessions in the gym, as well as doing other types of exercise such as running. He will return for a
final weigh-in at the end of September.
He is now looking for more people to sponsor him for the final half of his campaign and hopes to
raise money for the Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Bolton Hospice and the Alzheimers Society.
The Mayor of Bolton said: “I hope that my fitness campaign will encourage people all across Bolton
to try to get fit, especially those who have just retired and now have time on their hands. I’d like to
encourage everyone to sponsor me and help me raise some money for some great charities.”

just seven years-old.
Now the prodigy has gained
his third top-grade A level pass
at the tender age of ten.
Yasha, whose teacher claims
he has 'a brain like a
calculator,' achieved an A* in
Statistics and now hopes to go
to university.
He already has an A* in Maths
and an A in Pure Maths - both
of which he gained at the age
of eight.
He's got the X=Y factor: Yasha,

Youngsters who mix alcohol
with energy drinks risk heart
palpitations and disturbed
sleep, researchers warn.
A study found that the highlycaffeinated drinks used by
millions to make them extraalert on a night out raised the
odds of a range of health
problems.
Revellers who used energy
drinks as a mixer were six
times as likely to suffer heart
palpitations as those who
drank their alcohol straight or
with a normal soft drink.

spirits were six times as likely
to suffer heart palpitations as
those who drank their alcohol
straight or with a normal soft
drink.
They also had four times the
odds of sleep difficulties and
were more prone to tremors,
irritability and so-called jolt and
crash episodes – sudden,
short-lived bursts of energy
followed by exhaustion.
The symptoms are similar to
those produced by caffeine,
one of the chief ingredients of
energy drinks such as Red
Bull.
Contrary to previous belief, the
study of 403 men and women
aged between 18 and 35,
reported in the journal
Alcoholism: Clinical &
Experimental Research, found
energy drink fans were less
likely to take risks when
drinking.
A spokesman from the British
Soft Drinks Association said:
'People who choose to drink
alcoholic drinks should
consume them in moderation,
whether they are mixed with
energy drinks or not.'
Those mixing alcohol with high
energy drinks also had four
times the odds of sleep
difficulties and were more
prone to tremors and irritability
Subjects in the study were also
surveyed about their physical
and mental health and how
often they took risks or lost
control by, for example, drunk
driving or getting into fights.

Tony Blair is costing taxpayers more than £400,000 a year despite building
up a £30million fortune since leaving Downing Street. Figures have
revealed that multi-millionaire Mr Blair is drawing the maximum Prime
Ministerial pension – worth about £70,000 a year. The gold-plated pension
comes on top of the £115,000 allowance that Mr Blair received last year to
support his ‘public duties’. Then there is his security team, which is
estimated to cost at least £250,000 a year. The revelation will anger
taxpayers at a time of unprecedented public spending cuts and double-dip
recession.
The 59-year-old has built up a fortune estimated at more than £30million ex-PM Tony Blair
since leaving Downing Street in 2007. It was recently reported he earned a total of £20million last

Many young people migrate to Britain on
marriage grounds to settle there, they
spend a lot of money for this purpose.
And sometimes they are cheated by
bogus agents.
There is a proverb in Gujarati which says
all that glitters is not gold. Yasmin's story
illustrates this.
YASMIN'S STORY
AZIZ TANKARVI
Yasmin (the real name is changed) lived
in Mumbai before she came to live in
Britain. She was educated and had a
decent job. Her parents had a great
desire to send Yasmin to Britain so that
she may have a luxurious life. They
came to know about a young man who
had come from the UK and was looking
for a bride for himself. We will call him
Ishaq (not the real name) Ishaq's
parents demanded money- about half a
million rupees. But Yasmin' s parents
refused to give any money since Ishaq
liked Yasmin he finally agreed to marry
her without the money.
The wedding took place. After a few
days Ishaq returned to Britain. Yasmin
joined him later. She found a job in
Britain. But her family life was miserable.
She was constantly harassed by her
mother in law. She did not receive any
support from her husband. Her parents

of their daughter and finally the marriage
broke down and resulted in divorce.

Yamin recovered from this trauma and
tried to find a job for herself. Finally, she
found a job with the Saudi Airlines. She
was offered a good salary. She was
happy. Her parents are also happy for
their daughter. Whenever some parents
become too eager to send their
educated daughters to Britain, they
advised them to think twice. And make
sure that the family in Britain is decent
and cultured.

I have been married for four years
to my husband who came from
Pakistan shortly after our
marriage, we have a beautiful
daughter who is two.
Right from the start my husband
has been very violent towards me

It is sad how you are being treated,
as everyone has a right to live
happily and with the freedom.
First of all you need to speak with
your parents and explain to them
what you are going through and
that you are a prisoner in your
own house and also tell them of
the violence that you are
suffering.
If that doesn’t help then you need
to speak with a close friend or
social services, they will help and
guide you in the right direction
which may be counselling for you
both, advise you regarding
domestic violence, housing,
benefits etc.
No one in this world should live in
a violent relationship and a
violent relationship has an effect
on the child in the long run, so you
really need to speak with someone
from the authorities.
Q. My parents want me to marry,
someone from abroad, whom I
have never met before, I am in a
relationship here and feel I am
being forced into a marriage that I

Many of our parents are still
living in the old tradition of
arranged marriage, you need to sit
them down and explain your
situation to them, if you don’t
have the confidence to speak to
your parents alone then have a
close relative or a friend with you

dynamics and explore choices.
Rehman is your son and the
decision for his welfare should be
made by you as his father. I noted
you stated that you are happy with
the level of care provided for your
son, that tells me that Rehman's
emotional, physical and
developmental needs to thrive and
to feel loved and grow into
individual young person are all
met by his maternal grandparents.

Dear Fatma please help me....
My wife died when giving birth to our first child Rehman, kindly my wife's family took up the care
of Rehman as I was not coping with loss of my wife and I have no family in UK. It's been seven
months since the death of my wife and my son has remained with my wife's family as I work full
time and unable to care for my son.
I am happy with level of care that my wife's family is offering to my son and have an arrangement
whereby I have contact with my son at the weekends at my wife's family home. My wife's parents
would leave me to spend time with Rehman all day. I have now started to take Rehman to my home
at the weekends and everything was working out well until my parents started making phone calls
from India to my wife's family making allegations of taking Rehman without my permission and
taking advantage of my vulnerable situation. My parents made further allegation of blackmailing
me into agreeing to Rehman being cared for by them (my wife's family). Understandably, my
wife's parents are very upset and don't talk to me when I go to have contact with Rehman. I find it
difficult to cope with discomfort when I visit my son at their home. I have also heard rumours that
my wife's parents are seeking legal advice in terms of residence order to them. Please advise.

Haji Abdullah Feffrawala is a social worker. He
has done social work for the last 12 years he
has undertaken many journeys abroad. He has
been to Palestine three times. In this interview
with Britasian he describes his experiences.
Britasian: what are your views on the
present condition of Muslims?
Abdullah: Today, there is no country in the
world where Muslims live in peace and
security Muslims are persecuted
everywhere and they live in misery and
there are many reasons for this. Most of
them do not follow Islam. There is no
sense of brotherhood. They are victims of
sectarianism. The leaders are power
hungry. There is narrow nationalism there
is a lack of education. And most Muslims
are economically backward.
Britasian: Tell us about your
experiences in Palestine ?
Abdullah: I went to Palestine, with the
Human Rights Commission & Research
Union Group. If you go as an individual
you do not get a visa. For a visit to Baitul
Muqaddas you have to go via Jordon you
cannot go anywhere else. There is a 20
feet high wall surrounding the West
Jerusalem, Ramallah and Gammad
Muslim populated Israel there are 450
checkpoints. The entire Palestine is an
open prison.
Britasian: What happened at the Airport?
Abdullah: Being a Muslim I was taken to a
separate room where I was interrogated
for 4 hours. From there we went to
Bethlehem. We had to cross 5
checkpoints. We visited a Muslim School.
The teacher told us about the miserable
conditions in which they have to survive.
They are constantly harassed by army
men we also visited several families who
were poor, needy and miserable.
Britasian: What did you see in
Jerusalem?
Abdullah: Wherever I went, I heard about
the oppression by the Army and the
Jewish settlers. The Israeli Government

Truth may sometimes be bitter, particularly in the present age. But a
true Muslim is required to oppose a wrong by words, or stop it by
hand or at least consider it to be wrong in his heart. Here I am
narrating the true story from my own experience. I have the welfare
of our community at heart which has made me write this article.

Abdullah: We met two Army men.

they had seen Muslim children.

were in the Army we were shown the films

From there we went to Ramalla we visited
a camp. And met many women who were
victims of rape by the Army. We also
visited Al-Quds University where many

Britasian: Tell us about your visit to
Masjid-E-Aqsa ?
Abdullah: I spent one whole day in
Masjid-E-Aqsa. After Maghrib Salah I
was sitting outside the Mosque. When
three elderly people came and started
talking to me.
They complained about the apathy of the
Arab world. The Arab rulers are the
stooges of superpowers.
The Arab world is hopelessly divided.
They want easy money and comfortable
life. They do not care for the persecution
of Palestinians.
Britasian: Is there a similarity between
the Palestinians and Gujarati
Muslims?
Abdullah: Yes. They are sailing in the
same boat. The Palestinians sold off
their land to the Jews to get easy money.
The Muslims in Gujarat are doing the
same. They are selling off their
agricultural land inherited from their
ancestors because of their greed for
money. They spend the money building
posh houses, and on expensive
weddings. Some people sell off the land
belonging to their relatives who live
abroad. Today they may not realise this
but they become landless. Their future
generations will suffer. Posh houses will
be useless after some time because
there will be no money for maintenance
and repairs. Lack of education is also a
serious problem. Most of our young are
unemployable because they do not have
the required qualifications or skills.
Britasian: What is your message to our
community in the UK?
Abdullah: The economic condition in
Britain is deteriorating. People of our
community have supported their families,
poor relatives and Islamic institution in
India. But our future generations may not
extend this kind of help to the people of
India. If you sell off your land in India
utilize the money to support the relatives,
to help them in education or finding jobs.
It is not advisable for the people living in
the UK to construct big houses in India for
show off. Our young generations are not
interested in visiting India. Most of the
houses owned by our people residing in
the UK are empty. They have become
ghost houses.
We have to think seriously about these
problems and change our attitude. If we
don't do it now, it will be too late. And Allah
forbid, we will have to regret.

WEDDING TROUBLE AS UK MUSLIM MARRIAGES NOT RECOGNISED
A growing number of young Muslims in
the UK are entering marriages that are
not legally recognised, BBC Asian
Network has found. This is because
couples are having an Islamic wedding
without the civil ceremony needed for the
marriage to be recognised under British
law.

nikah, at her home in Birmingham.
After the wedding the couple moved to
London where they started to build a life
and home together but, 13 months into
the marriage, Shaheeda realised that her
nikah was not legally valid.
''I had to show a marriage certificate when
I was enrolling at university. It was then I
realised I didn't have one and it came as a
big shock to me," she said.
Shaheeda, whose name has been
changed to protect her identity, said she
asked her husband to register their
marriage but he was against the idea.
A few months later she came home and
found that the locks to her front door had
been changed and that she had been
thrown out of her home.
"I was homeless. I took legal action but I
got nothing," explained Shaheeda. "I had
been paying the mortgage on our home
but the house was not in my name so I
lost everything.''
Eventually, Shaheeda moved back home
with her family.
''It was as though the marriage had never
happened. It was the worst time of my
life,'' she added.
Widespread
Family lawyer Aina Khan says that she is
dealing with an increasing number of
cases like Shaheeda's.
"It's a rising trend for Muslim couples to
have marriages that are not legally
recognised," explained Ms Khan.
''The problem is extremely widespread
and it's an increasing timebomb because
it's affecting mostly young Muslims, who
are under 30 or in their early 30s.''
Ms Khan says that the individuals have
no legal marital rights if the marriage
ends or if a partner dies.

Dr Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, the head of
Britain's Muslim Parliament, says the
lives of many Muslim women are being
ruined because their Islamic marriages
are not legally recognised.
''It is a major problem in the community,"
insisted Dr Siddiqui. "But it is very difficult
to put an exact figure on the scale of this
because there are no statistics. It could
be in its hundreds if not thousands."

Shaista Gohir is the head of the UK's
Muslim Women's Network. She says the
problem arises, in some cases, out of
ignorance as many young Muslims
believe that the nikah is legally binding.
''If a couple has a nikah in a Muslim
country then the marriage is recognised
under UK law. But many do not realise
that this is not the case if the nikah is
conducted in this country,'' she explained.
However, Ms Gohir said, some couples
preferred to wait and "test out" the
marriage before they had their civil
ceremony.
Exploited
This was something Leicester couple
Saila and Riaz Choudary, both 25,
wanted to do. They had their Nikah before
waiting more than a year until their civil
marriage.
''I wanted to be sure before I committed to
the civil ceremony,'' said Saila.
''A divorce costs a lot of money and I
wanted to avoid all that hassle if the
marriage didn't end up working.''
Ms Gohir says many couples say they will
register their marriage later, but later
never comes.
Dr Siddiqiui added that he believed some
Muslim women were being exploited as
their partners promised them a civil
wedding after the nikah only to refuse to
go ahead with it.
Riaz and Saila both agreed to wait to get
a civil ceremony.
All Muslim women to protect themselves
by always having a civil ceremony & the
nikah.

registered to conduct civil marriages.
This would then allow the couple to have
the nikah and registry at the same time
under one roof.
''The problem is that only a handful of
mosques across the country are
registering themselves," said Dr
Siddiqiui.
''I don't know why this is the case because
it is very simple to do - all they need to do
is fill out a form.
''Religious leaders must take a bigger
responsibility to protect many Muslim
women who are unnecessarily suffering.''

“Assessing your diet and making changes can have a very positive effect on your mind”
A lot of people know that science has shown and proved that there is a connection between what you eat and how you feel.
However it is surprising how easily this is forgotten in people who are looking for better fitness. Everyone knows that diet
is key whilst you are building yourself into the perfect physic. What little people come to realise is that your mood is also a
key factor whilst exercising. Assessing and changing your diet can have a better impact in the gym, changing your social
life for the better and have a positive effect on your mind.
POSITIVITY FOODS!!
PROTEIN:
This is broken down into amino
acids, one of which, called
tyrosine which results in the
increase of dopamine noradrenaline and adrenaline, all
of which improves and
increases you levels of energy
and alertness.
CARBOHYDRATES:
These get broken down into blood glucose, however besides
this carbohydrates trigger the release of insulin into our
bloodstream which clears all amino acids except tryptophan,
now that this amino acid is no longer working with competition, it
is able to cross the blood brain barrier and be converted to
serotonin which regulates mood, appetite and sleep.
low carb dieters can feel down from up to two weeks into there
diets because of the lack of serotonin..
CHOLINE: A B- complex vitamin that is concentrated in foods with high cholesterol such as cod,
egg, and liver; all these foods have a lot of choline which when lacking can effect memory.
WARNING!
FOLIC ACID: Deficiencies in this nutrient causes serotonin levels in the brain to
decrease and low levels have been linked to depression. Foods containing folic acid:
dark leafy greens such as spinach, asparagus, citrus fruits and seeds and nuts.
NIHARI RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
RECIPE
FOR 3 TO 4 PERSONS.
1/2 Kg. meat - ask for Nihari meat (shank)
1½ tsp. salt
½ tsp red chili (Lal Mirch) powder
½ tsp. Kashmiri chili (Lal Mirch) powder
¼ tsp. turmeric (Haldi) powder
1 tbs. coriander (Dhaniya) powder
1½ cup oil
3 tbs. white flour (maida)
1 tsp ginger (Adrak) paste
½ tsp. garlic (Lehsan) paste
ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS:
Omega-3 found in oil rich fish
such as salmon and mackerel.
The brain depends on these
fats as the nervous system is
made mostly of fat, so giving
the brain enough omega-3 will
improve function of the brain,
lack of omega-3 will result in
you feeling very sluggish.
(Top tips: when consuming the
salmon or mackerel or other
fishes it may e better to add a
little seasoning the it may need
a little flavor)
BADAM KA SHEERA
Milk and almonds prove to be a good combination during your
lactation period. These foods help to stimulate the production
of breast milk. The calcium and the energy content of the
recipe are good due to the addition of milk in to the sheera.
Have a tablespoon every day while you lactating.
( Very Useful In Pregnancy)
Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking Time: 30 mins.
INGREDIENTS
FOR 3 TO 4 PERSONS.
FOR GARNISHING
1 to 1 ½ inch ginger (Adrak) (Julian)
2 tbs. chopped coriander (Dhaniya) leaves
3 to 4 chopped green chilies
2 Lemon (sliced)
SPECIAL NIHARI SPICES
2 tbs. Fennel (Saunf)
½ tsp black pepper (Kali Mirch) ½ tsp. cumin seeds (Zeera)
2 green cardamom (Chhoti Ilaichi) seeds
10 cloves (Laung)
2 black cardamom (Bari Ilaichi) 1 stick of cinnamon (Dalchini)
1 bay leaves (Tezpatta)
¼ tsp. nutmeg (Jaiphal) and mace (Javitri)
2 tbs. coriander (Dhaniya) seeds 1 stick (Piplee)
1 aniseed flower (Badian)
INSTRUCTIONS
Put ½ cup oil in a pot. Add meat and fry it a little. Add salt, chili
powder, Turmeric (Haldi) powder, Coriander Seeds (Dhaniya)
powder and Ginger (Adrak) paste. Add a little water and mix
well. Dissolve maida in 1 cup of water and add this to the meat
and bring to boil. Grind all the special Nihari spices, put the
grounded mixture of spices in a fine cotton cloth bundle and add
to the meat. Add 5-6 glasses of water, cover and leave to
tenderize on very low flame. When meat has softened, remove
the bundle of spices and cook the curry to desired consistency.
Garnish: Fry some onion slices in a cup of oil till golden brown
and add to Nihari. Also garnish with fresh Ginger (Adrak) and

1/2 cup almonds (badam) ,
soaked overnight
1/3 cup milk
4 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp ghee
1/4 tsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
FOR THE GARNISH
2 to 3 almonds (badam) , slivered Method
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the almonds. Leave aside for
5 minutes.
Drain and remove the skins of the almonds.
Purée the almonds with 4 tablespoons of milk to a smooth
paste in a blender.
Heat the ghee in kadhai, add the almond purée. Cook over a
slow flame while stirring continuously till the mixture turns
golden brown (approx. 15 minutes).
Combine the milk and 4 tablespoons of water and bring to
boil. Add this to the cooking almond mixture and cook for 2 to
3 minutes.
Add the sugar, cardamom powder and cook till the sugar has
dissolved while stirring continuously.
Serve hot garnished with the almonds.

Your Care (UK) Limited is a home care (domiciliary care) agency established in 2003 trading from town centre office based at 10 St. Georges Street, Bolton. The

The registered manager Andria Smith and the office administrator Hamida Omar manages the office on a day to day basis with quality carers with some of them have
