The Geofest 2016 is organized by Universitas Katolik Parahyangan and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, and supported by Indonesian Geotechnical Society (HATTI), International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), and Indonesia Ministry of Public Works and Housing. The th first Geofest was successfully held in Langkawi, Malaysia on October 25-26 , 2015. Due to many interest of students, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan and Universiti Tunn Hussein Onn Malaysia collaborated to hold this event as annual tradition. International Geotechnical Engineering Festival (Geofest) is an event for students (Graduate and under-graduate) to participate in the problem solving competition especcially to cope with geotechnical failures in problematic soils. The competition is of interest and challenging due to the uniqness of the problems in nd their area. Students are encouraged to join 2 Geofest in Bandung, Indonesia. Rahardjo Chairman of SOFTSOILS 2016 Dr. Budijanto Widjaja Director of Geofest 2016 Introduction International Geotechnical Engineering Festival (Geofest) is an event for geotechnical engineering students (graduate and under-graduate) to participate in the problem solving competition especially to cope with geotechnical failures in problematic soils. The competition is of interest and challenging due to the uniqueness of the problems in their area. Students are invited to join 2nd Geofest in Bandung, Indonesia. The first Geofest was held in Langkawi, Malaysia on October 25-26th, 2015. Due to many interest of the students, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan and Universiti Tunn Hussein Onn Malaysia collaborated to hold this event as annual tradition. General Regulation Participant MUST be registered as an active student (proved by his/her student ID card which valid until the end of July 2016) in a university to join the competition. One team consists of 3 people enrolled in the same university. Participant is divided into two different categories, undergraduate and graduate student. A scientific paper is a paper originally written by the participant as a research or case studies. Topic for this event is Problematic Soils (expansive soils, soft soils, residual soils, clay shale, collapsible soil, peat, etc.). The panels are the people who have been given authorities to do an HOW TO REACH assessment onBANDUNG? the work done by the participants. The assessment, in this case, is an activity to assess the participants' masterpiece based on the criteria that have been set. Tour to Tangkuban Perahu Crater/Kawah Putih area (committee will decide where to exactly based on a volcanic activities and the weather surrounds the area) or a Short Course. Before the tour begins, geologists will give out information and details of the designated place to accomodate inquiries regarding the place. Kawah Putih lake (7.10° S 107.24° E) is one of the two craters which make up Mount Patuha, an andesitic stratovolcano (a "composite" volcano). TANGKUBAN PERAHU (spelt Tangkuban Parahu in the local Sundanese dialect) is a stratovolcano 30 km north of the city of Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia. It erupted in 1826, 1829, 1842, 1846, 1896, 1910, 1926, 1929, 1952, 1957, 1961, 1965, 1967, 1969, 1983, and 2013. It is a popular tourist attraction where tourists can hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot water springs and boiling mud up close, and buy eggs cooked on the hot surface.[2] Together with Mount Burangrang and Bukit Tunggul, it is a remnant of the ancient Mount Sunda after the plinian eruption caused the Caldera to collapse.
