Diaper Drive 2012
To ~rvice Commission Chairs
Ladies, the LDCCW is again asking for your help with the 3rd Annual Pro Life Diaper
Drive. The goal is to exceed 50,000 diapers. The Diaper Drive will be during the
whole month of October, Pro Life Month. The Deanery Service Commission Chairs are
again asked to consolidate the diapers collected in their Deanery. Kay Wessel will be
contacting the Deanery Service Commission Chairs in September to discuss the Drive.
Kay will also be sending Diaper Drive reminders to the Parish Priests so if you don't see
a reminder in your Church Bull~ please ask Father to check his email (Subject:
October Pro-Life Diaper Drive) , mail- if Father does not have email, or develop
reminders ofyour own and ask Father to include in your Bulletin.
Some parishes have collected money in addition to diapers and found they could purchase
diapers from Diapers.com more reasonably than they could purchase diapers elsewhere.
Cash donations are always welcome. Checks can be made outto LDCCW.
Unfortunately we cannot accept cloth diapers since the population we're serving may not
be ideal candidates fpr cloth.
In the Deanery packets you will find a Diaper Drive Flyer for each parish in your
Deanery. Please encourage each parish to post the flyer.
Thank you
Kay Wessel, LDCCW Service Commission

ADVENT PRAYER SERVICE
(from HCA manual:-May be adapted further for use in Fundraiser#2)
Opemng Discussion: How does itfeel to waitfor something? When have you waited? What kinds ofthings have
you waitedfor? What do you do while you're waiting?
Leader
(Ifpossible, have an Advent wreath ready to light.)
Advent is a time of waiting-waiting for something wonderful!
Reader 1
(Adaption ofIsaiah 7:14)
A virgin shall have a son, and he shall be called Emmanuel-God with us.
All
Thank you, God, for this promise to us.
Reader 2
(Adaption ofIsaiah 35 and 61)
The blind will see again. The deafwill hear and the lame will dance. The hungry will eat and the
prisoners will be set free.
All
Thank you, God, for this promise to us.
Reader 3
(Adaption ofIsaiah 2 and 35)
Streams will run in the desert and it shall bloom with flowers. The nations will change their
sword into plows; they will not train for war again.
All
Thank you, God, for this promise to us.
Leader
These are God's promises to us. This is what we wait for-and others wait, too. These promises,
these wonderful things, are for all people everywhere. All nations shall live these promises, says
the prophet Isaiah. But right now, many members of God's family are waiting, all over the world.
• They live in places that are strange to them.
• They wait for soldiers to stop fighting so they can go home.
• They wait for the rains to come so their crops will grow.
• They wait for in long lines to get food and water.
• They wait at hospitals, hoping to receive the medicine they need.
All
God, our sisters and brothers are waiting. We are waiting. Your whole family waits together.
Allow time for reflection. Then talk about what it mustfeel like to waitfor things like food and water, and medicine
and safety. What can people do when they need these basic things? What can we do while were waitingfor the
prophets' words to come true?
Think ofwhatyou can do duriflgAdventto prepare Jesus'way. You might decide to stopfighting with your
brothers and sisters. You might decide to pray every dayjor people in need and to make donations for them.
Reader 4
(Adoption ofIsaiah 9)
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. (light the candle)
Leader
We light this candle to remind us of God's promises to us and our promises to God during this time
ofAdvent.
All
Thank yo~ Go~ for your promises to us and to all people. Help us to wait in patience and in hope.
Make us grow in caring and in strength so we can help others who are waiting-because we all wait
together.

her respective activity with a lot of time and effort. Pray for us, and contact ladies as you need to.
Marriage Encounter Weekends: Give your marriage a boost! and remember the plan God has for
marriage. If any parish would like pulpit talks on Marriage Encounter, let Elaine Swanson know.
Parent Educator Packets are those DVD!s and medals given to the newly Baptised in all parishes. There
a booklet available for Hispanic families, along with a medal for their baby, also.
Council Women of The Eucharist was initiated in 1990 by the Past Presidents of the LDCCW. Adopt-APriest was started in 2002 by the same group of women. They were well received and have been
promoted as much as possible. It is difficult to continue a follow-up on these projects for the present.
In regard to Council Women of The Eucharist, it has been suggested to send blank membership cards t
parishes if they wish to pledge prayer time, but not to require anything to be sent backto the lDCCW
record-keeping. The premise to spend one, hour per week with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament should
be between each person and God! as when Jesus asked His disCiples in the Garden of Gethsemane,
"Could you not spend one hour with Me?" Also, with Adopt-A-P,r iest, we.. have ,begn ~skeqto realign t

We are looking to increase the Msgr. Riordan Scholarship total in the next two years. At present it is ~
at between $250-$500, depending on the amount of our budget as the LDCCW. Please pray that we
