SHIFMAN
HISTORY
In 1893, Abraham and Samuel Shifman established Shifman
Mattress Company. Believing in better sleep and higher
quality bedding, the brothers set out to make the finest
handcrafted mattresses in the industry. Today, Shifman
continues to push the company forward while maintaining
the traditions and craftsmanship of Shifman’s founders.
• Their patented Sanotuft technique secures layers of the
mattress to avoid any bunching or shifting of materials
and creates a comfortable, buttonless tuft.

Belgian damask, matelasse fabrics, natural cotton, wool,

HISTORY
Century is a family business based in Hickory, North Carolina
that entered the luxury furniture industry in 1947. Harley
F. Shuford, Sr., founder, partnered with Ramon K. Sobota
for over 40 years, and together made Century a leader in
their field.
Century’s current president, Alex Shuford, III, leads

HISTORY
The Bernhardt legacy began over 125 years ago with
J.M. Bernhardt, who founded the company and whose
uncompromising standards led Bernhardt to thrive
despite two world wars, supply shortages, and the Great
Depression. Bernhardt continues to grow and today is
based in North Carolina. The company is currently led
by a member of the family’s fourth generation, Alex

STICKLEY
HISTORY
Over 100 years ago, Gustav and Leopold Stickley and their
brothers made it their mission to create honest, handcrafted
furniture that was strong, durable and timeless. Taking pride
in their work, they established themselves as masters of
the craft and made the Stickley name synonymous with
excellence in the furniture industry.
The Stickley business continued to thrive, and in 1988,
Gustav Stickley’s Columbus Avenue Sideboard sold for
$363,000 to Barbra Streisand—which was the highest
price for a single piece of 20th century furniture at the
time. This launched the Stickley name and Mission furniture
into even greater heights of recognition. After the auction, Stickley began to manufacture the sideboard, and even
now, Stickley is the only company to manufacture the same
pieces as their antiques—which often go for a fortune at
auctions, despite still being in production.
