What is HD Audio?

High Definition Audio or HD Audio is uncompressed audio data which
enables the reproduction of lossless sound — the audio data is captured
during a sound recording in such a way that no degradation occurs. This
means the sound recordings contain all the details, expressions and
ambience exactly as the artist and engineers intended.
HD Audio technologies like Dolby® TrueHD, Dolby® Digital Plus, DTS-HD
Master Audio & DTS-HD High Resolution Audio decoders can maximize
the depth of sound from HD storage media like Blu-ray discs. These
state-of-the-art HD Audio technologies are able to process 100 percent
uncompressed, lossless audio format so that you can experience movies
and music that are identical to the studio masters, soundstage mixes or
concert recordings.

The main focus of HD Audio is to create an immersive experience, making
you feel that you are in the center of a performance or movie theatre.
In DVDs, the audio data is partly lost in compression due to storage
limitation. Also, DVDs can only deliver audio data up to 448kbps. However,
with a larger storage space, a Blu-ray disc is capable of delivering
uncompressed, lossless audio data of up to 24.5Mbps.
