After more than 25 years of designing and manu-
facturing bicycle frames, Ted is revered as one of the masters of the
trade. His bicycles have won medals at USCF championships, NORBA
events, Tour Due Point, the Pan-Am Games, and World Championship
Track events.
Today at TED WOJCIK CUSTOM BICYCLES we build bikes by hand from
our Southern, NH shop in New England and hope to keep that tradition
of beautiful, hand crafted bicycles for many years to come. Ted still
builds each frame by hand. Painstaking measures ensure that all of the
bicycles that bear our name display the highest quality in precision
craftsmanship. As we set our sights to the horizon, we hope to build

Choosing to buy a custom bicycle demands planning, years of experience on a bicycle
and understanding what works for you and what doesn't. When you go custom you not
only get what you want, you also get what you need. That's the difference between a bike
you buy at a bike shop and the one you will buy from Ted Wojcik. The bike shop bike,
although can be a great bike, has compromises in fit and finish. It will fit "good enough".
The component spec will be "good enough". "You can always upgrade" you may hear. Not
with a custom. Geometry? The jigs adjustable. Paint? We have a swatch book that will
make your head spin. Components? We buy direct from OEM's or from the big guys like
QBP, BTI and others.

SOF-TRAC 29 /
Here is the Sof-Trac 29 (formerly the Monkey Butt) in it's finished form. "Thanks to all
who took the time to give an opinion on what this bike should be." states Ted. "I was
surprised by a number of posts that said slow, steady handling was a trait that attracted
many riders to the whole 29er revolution. I must admit that this bike is designed to be
a bit more New England single track oriented. The head angle is a little steeper than
some others, a little more than 71 and the bottom bracket is a little higher. It should be
better in the rooty, rutty areas of the Northeast."

It will be going to some riders in Central Connecticut for road (trail) testing. We will
see how it came out.

According to Ted: "I'll give you a run down of features that set it apart from a lot of
other bikes. It is built with Paragon Slider drop-outs which will allow chain stay
length to be as short as possible and still clear the front derailleur's cable linkage.
The actual stay length is determined by tire size. I also made the derailleur's cable
stops removable so those who like a single speed can remove the "warts" when riding
without all the gears."

Racer Josh Rosenthal came to Ted Wojcik Custom Bicycles with one thing on his
mind: full suspension. The resulting DH sled Ted built for him let's him concentrate
on picking his line through the gnar without having to think about whether the
bike will hold up to his demands. It's led him to multiple top 5 finishes including
3rd at the Mount Snow National Championships in 2008. The geometry and philosophy are pure Ted Wojcik: Choose the right materials for the job and let the bike
speak for itself come race day letting the rider take command without hesitation.
Let's see what these two come up with for the 2009 season. Whatever it is, it will
be fast as hell.

He got his start when he met his future wife, Sue Abrahamson, an avid cyclist. At 5'2'', she was having a hard time
finding a bike that she could ride. Having already learned
the art of motorcycle frame fabrication through his racing
experience, Ted ordered tubing from a local bike shop to
build his wife a bicycle. Already an accomplished welder,
Ted decided to try his hand at creating bicycle frames.
Built in Ted's basement, the next frame was sold before
it was completed. Ted figured this was a good sign so he
made a few more frames, selling them locally. He worked
out of his home until 1990 when he set up shop dedicated
to producing more frames.

Ted Wojcik (pronounced woah-jik) worked on gas turbine
engines and helicopter transmission systems during the
Vietnam War where he gained extensive engineering and
mechanical experience. He worked for several motorcycle
specialty shops in New England and became one of the
leading motorcycle racers in New England racing on a National level.

There was a time when Ted was only using traditional
brazing techniques to build bicycle frames. But as a
builder, he was always seeking ways of making his
craft better, sleeker, lighter and stronger. He was an
early adopter of TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding. He
got his first welder and set it up in his basement. Ted
being Ted, he locked himself in the basement for more
than 40 hours straight with little more than coffee to
keep him going. He was nearly drawn to tears by frustration when he first began. By the end of that time, it
didn't look pretty, but he was able to start laying down
beads. Each pass he got better and made improvements.
From that first arc that was struck it was determination,
skill and lots of practice and over 3000 frames under
his belt that makes Ted's welds what they are today.
Always reaching out to make the next bead better than
the last. That first frame he TIG Welded is still being
ridden. Not many can make that claim..
