business platform is recognized for its
CMC Electronics brand of innovative
cockpit systems integration and
avionics solutions. Esterline CMC
Electronics (CMC) is a major supplier
to the aerospace and high-technology
industries, airlines, military agencies and
government customers around the world.
Its principal locations are in Montreal,
Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; Chicago,
Illinois; Xenia, Ohio; and Kortrijk,
Belgium.

CMC’s leading-edge military and
commercial avionics include navigation
and flight management systems
(FMS); global positioning system (GPS)
receivers; satellite communications
antenna systems; Doppler velocity
sensors; electronic flight bags (EFB),
aircraft information servers and tablet
connectivity devices; enhanced vision
system (EVS) sensors; head-up displays
(HUD); and microelectronics.
CMC now offers an expanded portfolio
of high-quality display products further to
the acquisition by Esterline Corporation
of the aerospace and defense division
of Belgium-based Barco N.V. in January
2015. The former Barco avionics display
activities as well as the training and
simulation business have been integrated
within Esterline Avionics Systems. The
new TREALITY® brand of Simulation
Vision Systems adds best-in-class
technology and synergies within the
Avionics Systems business platform.
The company has world leading
expertise in upgrading the cockpits of
air transport aircraft such as the B747,
DC-10 and MD-80 fleets with GPS, FMS,
display systems and sensors. CMC’s
breadth of experience extends to military,
fixed and rotary wing aircraft such as the
C-130 air transport, P-3 patrol aircraft,
UH-60M, HH-60M and HH-60L Black
Hawk helicopters, and a variety of military
trainer aircraft.
CMC has developed a significant
business as a prime contractor, offering
turnkey cockpit retrofit solutions based
on its FMS product line. More than 100
Classic Boeing 747 aircraft have been
modernized by CMC for international
airlines/cargo operators, including Air
France, JAL, Kalitta, KLM, Nippon Cargo,
Qantas and Saudi Airlines.
Esterline CMC has successfully performed
cockpit upgrades for the C-130 class of
military air transport aircraft. Its certified
Cockpit 9000 modernization solutions
comprise best-in-class core elements
which support worldwide operation within
the latest civil airspace global air traffic
management environment. CMC’s proven
Cockpit 9000 solution extends a 20- to
40-year-old aircraft’s service life by another
30 years, at a fraction of the cost of a new
aircraft. Esterline CMC’s system integration experience includes C-130 cockpit
upgrades for international customers
including air forces in Austria, Brazil, Chile,
Dubai, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
CMC’s Cockpit 4000 integrated avionics
suite provides a cost-effective, advanced
military aviator training solution to air
forces around the world. This integrated
glass cockpit is designed to lower training
costs while offering superior training
capabilities. The Cockpit 4000 has been
selected by Beechcraft for the T-6B Texan
trainer aircraft for the U.S. Navy, the
T-6C export version and the AT-6 armed
version; by Korea Aerospace Industries
(KAI) for the versions of the KT-1C trainer
selected by the Turkish Air Force and
Peruvian Air Force; by Patria for the
upgrade of Hawk Mk51 and Mk66 trainers
for the Finnish Air Force; and by IOMAX
for the light-attack turboprop Archangel
aircraft selected by the United Arab
Emirates Air Force and Air Defence.
CMC’s Cockpit 4000 NexGen avionics
suite bridges the training gap from
basic and advanced trainers to front-line
fighters. This integrated, next-generation
cockpit solution features a large area
display with touchscreen technology as
well as an all-digital, raster capable
Head-Up Display. The Cockpit 4000
NexGen offers maximum mission
flexibility for multi-engine, fighter or
helicopter platforms. Its innovative,
configurable avionics provide optimum
life-cycle benefits and cross-platform
training flexibility.

In the area of Continuous Improvement, CMC generally follows the Lean methodology
principles to reduce costs and reduce waste in all of its manufacturing, administration, transaction and design processes. Six Sigma methodology is also used to reduce
variations and costs. CMC primarily focuses its efforts on the needs of its external and
internal customers. The deployment of the strategy and objectives across the company
is based on the Hoshin Kanri methodology and action plans are established based on
the PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) cycle.
