Mark completed his education and graduated from Rice University, Houston, Texas. He carried
a double major in Economics and Managerial Studies. For a short time, he participated in the
Rice Navy ROTC Program. He found his career position as a Contracts Administrator for
General Dynamics, Pomona, California in October, 1984. He married the former Diane
Biackshear, also from Washington, D.C., and together with her small daughter, they relocated to
the Los Angeles area. Mark and Diane had 2 sons together, Matthew in 1988, and Evan in 1992.
Both boys are aspiring NBA hopefuls ~ they are pretty good at basketball, though Maria's first
love was tennis! Mark worked in the Contracts area for 10 years, but also worked for a couple of
years selling various life and health insurance policies, and securities. His final job was back in
the contracts area for Campbell Plastics, in Corona, CA., not far from Mark's home in Ontario.
Marie was a charter member of Amazing Grace Bible Church in Upland, CA., and was the
resident soloist, enchanting the congregation with his melodic, baritone voice. He was the
featured soloist in a Christmas program in December, 1997. In April, 1998, Marie was diagnosed
with malignant brain tumor, which even the best of doctors could not cure. To the great pain of
his family and friends, Mark passed away from this life on Thursday, July 9,1998, just 4 days
before his youngest son's 6th birthday. Because of his gentle, softspoken nature for a man of his
6*3" stature, he was eulogized as the "gentle giant." He will be sorely missed.

"Forever in our Hearts"
When it comes to being 'special', there are no words to describe Mark Brooks. He possessed a very gentle
demeanor, yet a towering strength in his person which made people take notice. He was a very loving husband, and
I am very proud to have been selected by him to share his life. Mark was the epitome of what an unselfish and real
love is all about. He was truly the 'wind beneath my wings. 'Asa father, Mark was patient, gentle and unselfish. He
made many sacrifices so that his family would have what they needed - and sometimes, even what they didnt need!
Those of you whom he called 'friend' know the depth of his loyaty. He was trustworthy, dependable, and rarely
forgot a birthday or special occasion. He was planning to share his 20th reunion with his Potomac classmates, but
there was another plan for Mark's life.
Mark was was diagnosed in April, 1998 with a terminal brain tumor. Although he fought a courageous battle to live,
he died on July 9,1998, just 4 days before our youngest son's 6th birthday, and exactly seven weeks before his own
38th birthday, August 27th. He was honored by an overwhelming outpouring of love and concern from family and
friends all over the country throughout his ordeal, and eulogized as a 'gentle giant.' In light of the person Mark was
and the depth of his Christian beliefs, our family is comforted by our faith that Mark is using his beautiful baritone
voice to sing with Heaven's choir today.
It is often said that the true meaure of one's life is not the in the possessions he builds, but the legacy he leaves
behind. Mark's legacy is one in which he would be very proud, and his memory is one we shall always cherish.
Our family congratulates Potomac High School Class of 78 on your 20th reunion.
