It is set on a remote island, where the sorcerer Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skillful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. There, his machinations bring about the revelation of Antonio’s lowly nature, the redemption of the King, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son, Ferdinand.—Wikipedia Macbeth is Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy, and tells the story of a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of arrogance, madness, and death. —Wikipedia 8 Event 8 – The Tempest 9 Event 9 – Rarely Performed Plays Middle School Rounds 1 & 2 Rooms MPB, Music Round 3 Rooms MPB, Music Section A Round 1 School Code Room Order Round 2 Room Order AGH90 MPB 1 MPB5 AVC90 MPB 2 Music6 ATM90 MPB3 Music1 AZC90 MPB4 Music3 ADJ90 MPB5 MPB3 ACQ90 MPB6 MPB4 Section B Round 1 School Code Room Order AKP90Music 1 AQL90Music 2 ACR90Music 3 AYL90Music4 ASH90Music 5 ANH90Music 6 10 RULES for RARELY PERFORMED PLAYS: 8 minute limit 3–10 participants Must be from one of Shakespeare’s plays on the approved list, which had 25 to choose from.
