President’s Message
I bring you warm greetings from the Kawartha Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.
This area of ours is a truly special place. We have the best of both worlds.
In a short car or bike ride we can move from town to wilderness. The
images of green trees, blue sparkling water and open skies are top of
mind, but we have more to offer than idyllic natural vistas. Our shops and
services offer a wide array of custom and specialty goods, but they also
cater to our requirements for day-to-day living. Think of a street where
you can renew your driver’s license, pick up a few groceries, then shop for
fashion, have your hair styled, stop for a delicious lunch featuring local
foods, drop off your shoebox of receipts to the accountant, dash across
to the drug store or hardware store for a much-needed household item, then pick up that book
you’ve been meaning to read, before treating yourself to fudge or flowers. What could be better
for you and those local business people who greet you from behind the counter, or on the street.
This is small town, local life at its best. Wasn’t there a line from an 80’s TV show that went
something like “the place where everybody knows your name.”
The Kawartha Chamber urges our neighbours to take full advantage of what this area has to
offer. As you will see in this Guide, there is a wealth of choice. Whether you are from our more
northern communities of Apsley, Buckhorn and Burleigh, or from across the causeway in Ennismore,
you can use this Guide to find what you need in your town, or just next door. From Warsaw
to Woodview and Lakefield to Lakehurst, the Kawartha Chamber represents more than 350

talents to make this a great place to be. From PolarFest and the Apsley Winter Carnival to the
Lakefield Literary Festival and Cruise Nights in Warsaw and Bridgenorth, our communities are

with a colleague he provides official services to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 77. He also plays a role

Sponsored by Nightingale Nursing Registry - They focus on diverting materials from landfill for diverse
clients. The Rocket composting system turns food waste into compost in 14 days. The WastePro macerates and

Not-For-Profit Excellence – Lakefield Youth Unlimited
Sponsored by Darling Insurance. Presented in memory of Mary Barrow. - Youth programs and services are
initiated based on the greatest felt need to “create a safe place where everyone belongs.” 80 – 100 youth are
served weekly by a small but dedicated staff and over 50 volunteers. Community programs include: gym night,
food hampers, mentors for youth, community gardens, spiritual explorations, after school program, art camp,
and LYU House which provides affordable housing for individuals and families.
Retailer of the Year – Town & Country Marine
Sponsored by Nexicom Inc. Presented in memory of Brian Holmes, Lockside Trading. - Family owned and
operated for over 30 yrs., they rank in the top 100 boat dealers in North America. Customer satisfaction
contributes to over 50% of business coming from referrals. Sales in this year increased in all areas in excess
of 10%, thereby reaching the 8 figure dollar amount. A new partnership with Viamede established a service
depot and boat rental facility on Stoney.
Tourism/Hospitality – Scotsman Point Resort

cabins to 25 comfortable, lakefront housekeeping cottages, a conference room and tearoom. Their nominator
