President’s Message - July 2015
Our annual meeting was held on July 11th and officers were elected for the coming year. Your officers for the coming year are:
Rick Weaver, President; Mike Melchi, Vice-President; Tommy Dent, Secretary; and Lori Melchi, Treasurer. As many of you know,
the Parrots, Marilyn and Steve handled the job of the treasurer for 7 years and they did an excellent job. We thank Marilyn and
Steve for their years and many hours of service to the Cottagers Association. If you see Marilyn and Steve around the lake or at
the store, take a moment to thank them for their service. Also if you see Lori, please thank her for volunteering for this important
position.
There were a number of amendments to the By-laws which were voted on by the cottagers in attendance. We encourage you to
go to our website (www.lakegeorgein.com or www.lakegeorgemi.com ) to view the new By-laws and to see what new and interesting things are happening around the lake. The website is easy to navigate thanks to the efforts of Tommy Dent.
The July 4th fireworks were amazing again and thanks to Mike Melchi and his barge crew for another year of preparing for the
fireworks. We have had numerous comments on the excellence of the show and Mike has already started preparations for 2016.
The fireworks next year will be held on Saturday July 2nd with a rain date being Sunday July 3rd.
Danny and Sarah King did another excellent job on the boat parade and are hoping for more participation next year. It was interesting to see the creativity and ingenuity of the participants. Next year Danny and Sarah are encouraging each beach to have a
boat entry. They will be announcing the theme for next year soon and when they do, put on your thinking caps.
The dam inspection was completed on July 9th by Patriot Engineering from Indianapolis. They expect to have the report completed within six weeks and we will present the findings at a future Beach directors meeting.
There has been some small movement on the Weed Tax District with the Michigan attorney planning to put a draft copy of the
overall agreement between Michigan and Indiana. When we have this information we plan to have a meeting for all cottagers to
discuss the potential for a weed tax.
Congratulations to Craig / Kathy Johnson and Wally / Darlene Leuenberger recipients of the Spirit of Lake George Award given
out each year to deserving people who donate their time and energy to keep Lake George wonderful place to enjoy.
The officers of the Lake George Cottagers Association hope your summer is going great and everyone is having a safe summer on
the lake. We ask that everyone be courteous and kind to each other while on the lake, looking out for each other as you are tubing, skiing, and jet skiing, or just plain enjoying a slow ride around the lake.
Rick Weaver, President -Lake George Cottagers Association

First of all, so far the sales of the Lake George Conservancy Boutique have been outstanding. If you came into the boutique early
in the season, we have gotten many more new things to check out! It is time to be thinking of getting an early start on your
Christmas shopping. We have many Lake George specific things such as clothing, coasters, playing cards, cutting boards, trivets,
etc. We also have many local artists who are displaying their art in the boutique. Much of their art is geared towards fish, boats,
etc. Our local resident Janie Larimore has some outstanding pottery on display, a must see!! We also have a large selection of
items on the Clearance rack. Please come to check us out!
One new thing at the Boutique this year is the bulletin board showing all the Services and Such. Great people at Lake George
have donated their time and expertise to those people who might need a little help with something. People help with that help

ICCSA News
The 58th Annual Inland Cat Regatta was celebrated on the last weekend in July with plenty of wind and sunny skies. Seventeen
skippers competed in five races, four on Saturday and one on Sunday morning. Race chair Wally Leuenberger and his committee
set a variety of courses over the three racing sessions.
When the finishes had been recorded and scored, the skipper taking home the coveted traveling trophy was Rick Ahaus in #179.
Ahaus won two races on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Placing second was Jonathan Larimore in # 189. Larimore was tied in total points with Lyle Reiff in #314. The tie was broken by
comparing their respective finishes, and Reiff finished third. Several other ties among competitors were broken in the same way.
As defending champion, Jack Stiefel received a hand-crafted “keeper” trophy for his 2014 victory. Stiefel placed fourth this year.
Points are awarded for one’s finishing position. The worst finish of the five races was dropped. Points for the top four races were
totaled to calculate the standings.
Beautiful hand-crafted wood trophies were awarded to:

Three volunteers served on the committee boat throughout the weekend: Becky Mahuren, Greg Didier, and Bill Brenneke.
An important facet of the Regatta for several years has been charity fund-raising through a silent auction and raffle. This year the
club earmarked its revenue for Project Help of Angola. Total proceeds reached over $800. In addition, several boxes of nonperishable food and toiletries were collected throughout the weekend.
The weekend began on Friday night party with music and fancy hors d’oeuvres catered by Denise Robinette of Chicago. Saturday
dinner and Sunday lunch featured Italian food. The presentation of the trophies, announcement of the silent auction and raffle
winners, plus plenty of time for fellowship rounded out this annual highly anticipated event. Past Commodore Stan Parrish of Ft.
Wayne chaired the Regatta Organizing Committee with much help from Commodore Renate Brenneke.
The top three contenders in the Gold Fleet for the summer season are Dan Andrews, Stan Parrish, and Jonathan Larimore, but the
numbers can change drastically with five more Saturday races in August to determine the final standings. Rick Ahaus and Jack
Stiefel are in close contention for top spot in the Cup Fleet.
Laser Fleet News
Kevin Ahaus continues to dominate the Lake George Laser fleet after seven official races. If weather permits, the fleet holds two
races each Sunday afternoon starting at 1:00 PM. All small, mono-hull sailboats and skippers of all ages are welcome to compete: Sunfish, Force 5, etc. Questions? Contact Commodore Dan Andrews on Lane 201B.
The 5th Annual Laser Regatta will be held on Saturday, September 12, at 9:30 AM. Weather permitting, there will be six short
races, all in the morning so that we can attend the Conservancy Hog Roast that evening. Registration fee is $20 and includes a Tshirt and lunch. Please register as soon as possible with the regatta chair Kirsten Meyer on Kope Kon Road.
