Last Week's Answers
“Continental Challenge”
Paul Johnson, Associate Pastor, Staples Alliance Church
“The LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.”
-Deuteronomy 7:21
My, what a question! Who is God? How do you begin to
answer that? Most certainly we can look into Scripture and see
God as He reveals Himself in each page; read the gospels and
see God revealed in the Person of Jesus.
But to ask the question, “Who is God?, is to ask a question
that can neither be fully answered, nor completely understood.
Why? Because fitting an infinite God fully into a finite mind is an
impossible task. Try to put all of the oceans into a Dixie cup and
you’ll begin to get the idea.
Even the Apostle Paul struggled with the question. In the
end, he called on some help from Isaiah and Job and came up
with this:
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge
of God!
How unsearchable His judgments,
and His paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been His counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay him?”
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
To Him be the glory forever! Amen.

Romans 11:33-36
But we must pursue this question; for as we pursue a proper
understanding of who God is, we grow in our love for Him, we
grow in our faith in Him, and we grow in in our reflection of Him.
It is a pursuit which will take a lifetime, but one that will yield fruit
beginning today and lasting throughout eternity.
I’ll let A.W. Tozer have the last word.
When I think of the angels who veil their faces before the
God who cannot lie, I wonder why every preacher in North
America does not begin preaching about God - and nothing
else. What would happen if every preacher just preached
about the person and character of God for an entire year - what
He is, His attributes, His perfection, His being, the kind of God
He is and why we love Him and why we should trust Him? I tell
you, God would soon fill the whole horizon, the entire world.
Faith would spring up like grass by the watercourses. Then let
man get up and preach the promises of God and the whole
congregation would join in chorus: “We claim the promises;
look who made them!”
-Quote taken from Tozer on Christian Leadership, May 25

Five trap league shooters
finish in state top 100
The Staples Motley High School Trap
League concluded its regular season May
28 with the Cardinals completing a very
competitive year. Over the five weeks of
competition, the Cardinals finished second to Zimmerman in Class 4A Conference 4 with 26,672 points.
Awards are given for the top boys and
girls in each conference, class and in the
state. Individually Cardinal shooters
finished with their best showing ever in
league competition.
Boys
Jace Hoemberg, senior, finished in
first place in the conference, third place in
Class 4A and tied for 25th place in the state
with an average of 23.8 clays/round;
o Travis Maciej, junior, and Dominick
Carlson, eighth grade, finished tied for
second place in the conference, tied for
fifth place in Class 4A and tied for 40th
place in the state with an average of 23.6
clays/round;
o Brenden Thompson, junior, finished
tied for seventh place in the conference,
tied for 13th place in Class 4A and tied for
89th in the state with an average of 23.2
clays/round.
o
Girls
Katie Benson, junior, finished first
place in the conference, Class 4A and state
for girls and 11th place overall in the state
with an average of 24.2 clays/round.
The Cardinals will send these five
shooters to the MSHSL Championships in
Prior Lake on June 25 as individuals.
“This is the first time the team has ever
had any individual qualify in the top 100
shooters in the state. Sending five individuals is very impressive,” said coach Steve
Benson. “Only St. Michael-Albertville had
more individuals in the top 100 with eight.”
The team will compete in the State
Championships June 17 in Alexandria.
The top four team scores from Class 4A
will also earn a spot in the MSHSL Team
Championships.
The Cardinal shooters will have a good
chance to advance this year, competing
against the top Class 4A schools including
Apple Valley, Detroit Lakes, Zimmerman
and New York Mills.
“We have had an exceptional year of
shooting. With over ten kids capable of
shooting 22 clays or more every round, we
should be able to get over the hump in
team competition and shoot over 460/500
this year,” Benson said. “Hopefully, we can
get five shooters to string together four
good rounds and post a team score that
will get us to the MSHSL Team Championships for the first time.”
The spring trap season is coming to
an end, but youth summer and fall trap
leagues are available for students in 6th12th grade through Staples Community
Education. If you are interested in getting
your student to try trap shooting, look at
Staples Community Education website or
contact them at 218-894-2430.
Baseball team
improves but
falls in playoffs
The Staples Motley baseball team showed improvement throughout the year,
but still didn’t have enough
to overcome the number
one seed in the Section 6AA
playoffs. The Cardinals lost
11-0 in the opening round
of the playof fs against
Melrose on May 26. They
also lost their last regular
season game 4-1 at UpsalaSwanville on May 24.
The Cardinals had
played Melrose earlier in
the season and knew it
would be a tough game.
“We played much better,”
said coach Mitch Anderson. Walks and hit batters
allowed Melrose to get an
early lead, but the Cardinals held them down the
rest of the way, giving up
two runs in the last innings.
Trey Skeesick started
the game on the mound
and Reid Busker came in to
finish the first inning and
did not allow an earned
run the rest of the game.
Skeesick and Mason Nyhus had the only hits for
Staples Motley.
A g a i n s t S w a nv i l l e,
Blake Gerard pitched five
innings and Brady Smith
finished the game.
Smith, Busker and
Tristan Rudenick each got
hits but they could have
had more. “We were able
to knock the ball around
quite a bit but Upsala was
very solid defensively,”
said Anderson.

2016 bucket list?” “Bucket
list,” of course, refers to the
practice of creating a list
of things you would like to
do, or accomplish, before
you “kick the bucket,” that
being a less direct way of
saying “before you die.”
The 2007 film Bucket List
starred Jack Nicholson and
Morgan Freeman as two
terminally ill men pursuing long-imagined adventures before their expected
passing, adventures that
ranged from sky diving to
mountain climbing. On a
more down-to-earth, less
morbid level, the idea need
not be confined to lofty ambitions or end-of-life situations. It might mean looking ahead and thinking
about goals or accomplishments that have personal
value to you, and taking
steps to achieve them before the opportunity slips
away.
