1. OVERVIEW
1.1 INTRODUCTION
- MOTOSCAN is a diagnostic scanner for small motorcycle and scooters use
FI/ PGM-FI technologies and smart engine. It researched and manufactured
by DTDAuto Technology Team, Institute of Physics, Vietnam Academy of
Science and Technology since 2013.
- This is equipment used for the repair workshops and motorcycle vocational
training that identify malfunctions and repairs of PGM-FI/ FI motorcycles.
- MOTOSCAN was friend with the technicians in the repair workshop to
identify fault, repair software, measure and look up of electrical circuit diagram
and standard specification for most small motorcycles and scooters in Asia
and Africa market
- Since MOTOSCAN 5.7 has able communicated to the electrical MOTOBOX
accessory to perform more advanced functions, especially for Professional
repairer such as correct odometer value, ECU reprogramming, simulate most
ECU signals...
- MOTOSCAN 5.7 has supported advanced function use automatic diagnosis
by data analysis solution. This function able to find complex malfunction that
MIL lamp doesn’t indicate such as Idling Stop mode trouble, over idle speed,
rich fuel consumption, weak engine, hard start engine… and some
mechanical faults that other normal diagnostic tools can’t execute
- Support strong functions for programming, adjusting and parameter setting
of ECU as key immobilizer programming, offset TPS zero point, adjust Air/
Fuel ratio and idle speed, pulse width calibration for fuel injection time…
- Support look up information as the ECM version, MOTOBOX version and
sync with MOTODATA software on the computer to look up electrical circuit
diagrams, standard specifications and suggest repair is detail

FUNCTION 1: FIND MALFUNCTION
1.1. Read, clear fault codes stored in ECU
1.2 Find complex faults that MIL lamp does not indicate include such as:

FUNCTION 2: REPAIR FIRMWARE ERROR & CALIBRATION
2.1 Programming key immobilizer for PIAGGIO (MIU G3)
- Reset immobilizer, register new key when lost all of the keys, register
additional keys
2.2. Correct and adjust value of digital odometer of Honda, Yamaha
- Edit, decode odometer data and convert information automatically in
EEPROM
2.3. Programming ECM firmware for HONDA LEAD 125, HONDA SH MODE,
all kind of PIAGGIO (use MIUG3) *
- Initialize and repair data errors, upgrade the versions of MCU, EEPROM
2.4. Calibrate and set control parameters in the ECM:
- Calibrate air/fuel ratio (AFR): YAMAHA, PIAGGIO, SYM
- Reset to manufacturer value of ECM: HONDA, YAMAHA, PIAGGIO
- Offset zero point value of throttle position sensor for all of PIAGGIO
(MIUG3)
- Reset IACV: HONDA, YAMAHA, KYMCO
- Adjust pulse band width to control fuel injectors (Ti) and idle speed:

- Create new and repair data errors, upgrade the version MCU, EEPROM

2.3 CONNECTING WIRE FOR SPECIAL FUNCTIONS (CHECK BATTERY,
GENERATOR)

3. FUNCTIONS
3.1 READ FAULT CODES FROM ECU
This function used to read fault codes stored in ECU of PGM-FI /FI
motorcycles, reading fault codes though data link connector (DLC).
Step 1: Turn off ignition key
Step 2: Connect DLC cable to MOTOSCAN machine
Step 3: Connect DLC cable to DLC connector of motorcycle follow guide
Step 4: Turn on ignition key
Step 5: Press start pedal or start button for crank spin about 10 sec. or more
Step 6: Select “CONNECT TO VEHICLE” menu from main interface of the
screen then press “Enter/ OK” button:
Step 7: Select “DLC CABLE” menu then press “Enter/ OK” button. The
screen displays list of motorcycle brands.
Step 8: Select brand name to read fault codes (Example: HONDA) then press
“Enter/ OK” button. Check instructions on the screen. Press “Shift Down”
button to view more information then press “Enter/ OK” button.

Notes: HONDA supported “advanced diagnosis” function. It suggests
finding hard faults in case “Read code” function using OBD technology
does not find fault code that stored in ECU. To execute this function,
please view in item 3.10.
3.2 CLEAR FAULT CODES IN ECU MEMORY
This function used to clear fault codes stored in the ECU to complete the
repair or delete virtual fault codes stored in the ECU memory.
Step 9: The screen displays models of brand. Select a model of motorcycle
for reading codes (Example: LEAD 110). Press “Enter/ OK” button. The
screen displays function table.

 Important notes:
After the repairs and parts replacement, you need to run motorcycle in the
loading, fast speed of engine about 15 minutes to heat the engine. Read fault
codes more times, if fault codes still show on MOTOSCAN, means your
repairs not completed, you need to review. If not any fault codes show on
MOTOSCAN then repair you have done. Check results with the scanner
again if necessary...

3.3 RESTORE SOFTWARE IN ECU
Now, this function supports for Honda motorcycles. It used to restore software
in ECU to manufacturer’s original state. When you execute this function, you
need execute in accordance with the instructions on screen of MOTOSCAN.
Especially, you need start engine for 10 minutes after restoring to have ralenti
again.
Step 1: From the screen displays models of brand. Select a model of the
motorcycle (Example: LEAD 110) then press "Enter/ OK" button. The screen
displays function table.
3.4 VIEW LIVE DATA
This function used for the purpose of inspection and analysis of input signal
circuit (INPUT) of the ECU to determine difficult fault that OBD automatic
mode cannot be determined.
Step 1: From the screen displays models of brand, select a model of the
motorcycle to view live data (Example: LEAD 110) then press "Enter/ OK"
button. The screen displays function table.
Step 2: Press “Shift Down and Up” button to select "RESTORE ECU” menu
then press “Enter/ OK" button.

then press “Enter/ OK" button.

3.5 ACTIVE/RESET ACTUATORS
This function used for the purpose of inspection and analysis of output signal

3.6 CHECK A/F RATIO
Now, this function used for PGM-FI/FI motorcycles of HONDA, PIAGGIO,
SYM and KYMCO. Next update, it will support for other brands.

Now, this function used for YAMAHA, SYM, KYMCO PGM-FI/FI motorcycle in

Air/Fuel ratio (Example: CUXI) then press “Enter/ OK” button.
Step 2: Press “Shift Down and Up” button to select “CHECK A/F” function in
function table then press “Enter/ OK” button.

button to select “ADJUST A/F RATIO” function in function table then press

3.10 ADVANCED DIAGNOSIS
Now, this function used for HONDA, YAMAHA and PIAGGIO PGM/FI-FI
motorcycles. Next update, it will support for other brands.
This function uses positive diagnosis solution. It can find hard faults that MIL
lamp does not indicate such as idling stop mode trouble, over idle speed,
more fuel consumption, weak engine, hard start and mechanical faults that
normal diagnostic tools cannot execute.
After execute “Read code” function (view Item 3.1), if ECU has not stored fault
codes, the screen will display as below:
Press “Enter/ OK” button, the screen will be displayed
Press “Enter/ YES” button to execute “Advanced diagnosis” function, the
screen will be displayed list of troubles that your motorcycle can occur.

Step 2: Press “Shift Down and Up” button to select “KEY PROGRAM”

3.12 VIEW ECM INFORMATION
Now, this function used for HONDA, PIAGGIO, YAMAHA and SYM PGM/FIFI motorcycles. Next update, it will support for other bands.
Press “Enter/ OK” button to select a trouble that your motorcycles is
occurring, next you do the steps following instruction on the screen until the
end result screen shows.
Step 1: From the screen displays models of brand, select a model to view
ECM information (Example: LIBERTY). Press “Enter/ OK” button, the screen
displays function table.
3.11 KEY PROGRAMMING
Now, this function used for key programming of PIAGGIO/VESPA that has
ECM type is MIUG3 in the following cases.
- Add sub key when have main key
- Add key when lost all keys (main and sub key)
- Replace ECM
- Unsubscribe key, reset immobilizer

Step 1: Connect checking cable for battery to MOTOSCAN and motorcycle
follow the guidebook.
3.13.1 Check Air/ Fuel ratio
Step 1: Connect adding accessories cable with MOTOSCAN and motorcycle.
Please contact to manufacturer (DTDAuto Vietnam) for the buying this
accessory and detailed instructions.
Note: Connect correct electrical terminal of cable to battery (red clamp to the
positive battery, black clamp to the negative battery).
Step 2: Connect feed power cable to MOTOSCAN
Step 2: Supply feed power for MOTOSCAN by the power cable or power
adapter 220VAC-12VDC.
Step 3: In main interface of the screen, select "SPECIAL TEST MODE" menu
then press the "Enter/ OK" button.
Step 3: In main interface of the screen, select "SPECIAL TEST MODE" menu
then press the "Enter/ OK" button.
Step 4: Select the “A/F Ratio” menu to check the air/fuel ratio then press the
"Enter/ OK" button. Please actions accordance with the instructions on the
screen.
Step 4: Select the "GENERATOR” menu to check the voltage output of
generator then press the "Enter/ OK" button.
Step 5: Press "Enter/ OK" button, screen will display measurement results of
Air/ Fuel ratio: Rich, Medium and Lean.

3.13.3 Check quality of battery
Step 1: Connect checking cable for battery to MOTOSCAN and motorcycle
follow the guidebook.

3.13.4 Check the battery capacity
Step 1: Connect checking cable for battery to MOTOSCAN and motorcycle
follow the guidebook.

Step 2: Supply feed power for MOTOSCAN by the power cable or 220VAC12VDC power adapter.
3.14 READ FAULT CODES VIA MIL
This function allows the user quickly read fault codes stored in ECU memory
via flashing of MIL lamp on the dashboard. The step for reading fault codes:
Step 1: Turn off ignition key
Step 2: Set optical sensor on location of Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
and fixed it.
Step 3: In main interface of the screen, select "SPECIAL TEST MODE" menu
then press the "Enter/ OK" button.
Step 4: Select the “BATTERY CAPACITY” to check the battery capacity then
press the "Enter/ OK" button.
Step 3: Connect the signal cable of sensor and feed power cable to the
motorcycle. View instructions in item 2.2 or in the image above and below:

3.15 LOOK UP FAULT CODES
Step 1: Select “CONNECT TO VEHICLE” menu from main interface of the
screen then press “Enter/ OK” button:
Step 8: Select "READ CODE" menu to read fault codes then press the
"Enter/ OK" button. The screen displays a message "PLEASE TURN ON
IGNITION KEY!".
Step 2: To look up fault code select the "MIL CODE" menu then press the
"Enter/ OK". View instructions on the screen then press the "Enter/ OK"
button.
Step 9: Turn on the motorcycle's ignition key and press the "Enter/ OK"
button, MOTOSCAN will automatically test the connection and read fault
codes.
Step 3: The screen displays list of motorcycle brands.
Step 10: After the reading fault is finished (about 10 seconds to 60 seconds, it
is depending on amount of fault codes stored in the ECU), MOTOSCAN will
show information fault codes.
Step 4: Press “Up/ Down” button to select brand name (Example: SYM) then
press "Enter/ OK" button.

MOTODATA is computer software of data used for motorcycle repairs:
- Lookup technical parameters, mechanics maintenance
- Lookup Electrical Wiring Diagram (EWD, principle, assembly)
- Lookup location of components (sensors, ECU, actuator)
- Specifications, test measurement guide
Step 7:
- Press "Shift Up and Down" button to move the cursor to the ten lines or unit
line.
- Enter fault codes to lookup by pressing numbers on keypads and then press
the "Enter/ OK" button, screen will show as below.

6.1 SOME ERRORS CONNECTING TO MOTORCYCLE
When the communication between MOTOSCAN and motorcycles is error
please follow the below steps:
- Confirm that ignition key is being ON position

- Check connection of wiring and diagnostic connector (it is not loose or error
signal line from ECU to diagnostic connector).
- Notes: diagnostic connectors on the Honda Motorcycles are red color
and near battery. White connector is not use for MOTOSCAN, it is only
waiting connector use for development in the future
- Check position of optical sensor is on location of malfunction indicator lamp
(check engine light).
- Check ECU supply power or check ECU
- Check the power supply for ECM or ECU has been faulty inside.
6.2 ERROR OPERATING
If MOTOSCAN work a long time but do not display message on screen, follow
the below steps to reset MOTOSCAN:
- Turn OFF the power of MOTOSCAN
- Turn OFF the Ignition switch on motorcycle on 5 seconds later
- Turn ON Ignition key back and manipulate from a first step
6.3 PROBLEM FROM OPERATE USER
- User must perform true following guide on screen of MOTOSCAN.
- MOTOSCAN will not work if you do wrong manipulations.
- Some case be wrong battery power cable, it maybe cause fires and short
connection cable, therefore:
+ Connecting MOTOSCAN to motorcycle in according to wiring connection
diagrams with each kind of motorcycles (view it in user guide).
+ Do not use MT001-POWER cable if wiring connection diagram do not
require.
6.4 MOTOSCAN CAN NOT TURN ON POWER
- Check the connection of diagnostic connector and MOTOSCAN (loose)
- Check supply voltage (10VDC to 14VDC)
- Check pins of connector (damage, broken)
