Circumference: This measures the distance around your head. Starting at the center of the front hairline, place the tape flat against your head, going just above the ear towards the back of the head, keeping the tape at the nape of your neck and go around to the opposite side of your head, just above the opposite ear and returning to the center of the front hairline. Circumference = _______ inches 2) Measure Front to Nape Front to Nape: This measures the length of your head from the front to the nape of your neck. To determine where the nape of your neck is, tilt your head back and look up. Where your neck bends and may even develop a skin fold, is where your nape is. Nape = _____ inches. Helpful Hints for taking good measurements: 1.) Use a cloth measuring tape. 2.) Measure holding the tape snug, but not tight against the head. 3.) Keep tape flat against your head and do not allow kinks or twists to develop in the tape. 4.) Take measurements at least 3 times to be sure. Consistent measurements are an indication that you are measuring correctly. 5.) It’s important to find the right balance between having just enough hair and having too much or too little hair. When hair is tied to the lace, there is a dark knot where the hair is secured. Bleaching or “lightening” the knots reduces the visibility of this knot. On off black (1B) and dark brown hair, the knots are lightened to a light brown shade. Very light brown and blonde and shades usually do not need bleached knots. It is not possible to bleach knots on jet black (#1) hair, and is very difficult to bleach knots on 1B hair. Some customers request the knots to be bleached on the entire lace front wig. While this is common for men’s toupees, the hair on a toupee is shorter and is not subjected to as much stress or friction from styling. Lace front wigs are typically made of longer hair, whcih is often manipulated with fingers, combs or brushes. Bleaching the knots on the entire unit leads to premature, and sometimes excessive, shedding because the bleached knots are weaker.
