Many Course Names will not fit in the designated area, you should abbreviate in a way that makes the course clear to the AMCAS team who will be doing verifications while looking at your transcript. Any logical Abbreviation will work. Course Work Section Tutorials will be present throughout the application pages, it is always a good idea to watch them especially if you have questions and even if you don’t. Entering AP Coursework • For AP coursework, you will need the official transcript from the institution that granted credit for those courses. If more than one institution granted credit, you must choose one and only list that credit once in your application. • You will enter your AP credits under the Course Work Section of the Application Course Classifications • You are responsible for selecting the appropriate classification for each course that you enter. • Please select course classifications based on the primary content of the course. • In the case of interdisciplinary courses, where two or more subject matters are combined into one course, refer to the description of the course on your school's website or consult with the department through which the course is offered. • Courses that you classify as either Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Math (BCPM) will be calculated as your Science GPA. Course Classifications Continued The guide to the right provides examples of how courses are often categorized and can be found on the AMCAS website. Study Abroad To be considered study abroad by AMCAS, the program must have been sponsored by and credits transferred to a U.S. or Canadian institution. • For most foreign institutions, you will ask for a transcript exception, and your study-abroad coursework will not be verified. • If you studied at an institution that is considered American, you must supply a transcript. The list of American Colleges Abroad is found on page # 25 of the AMCAS instruction manual. MCAT Scores • How long will medical schools accept scores from the old exam? – Scores from the previous version of the MCAT will continue to be reported by AMCAS through the 2018 admission cycle. Each school has its own requirements for test reporting. More information can be found in the Medical School Admission Requirements website.
