To get this year off to a good start, the SLTFC Board put together a questionnaire concerning all aspects of SLTFC activities in order to get your input on the things you would like to see the Board pursue. The questionnaire is in this issue of the newsletter and we hope you will take the time to complete it and let us know your interests. As a "reward" for either mailing it back to us or bringing it to the January Membership Meeting, we will have a special raffle drawing for a $25 gift certificate from EJW Outdoors, Inc. If you mail it, you must sign it so we can enter a raffle ticket in your name. Please support our speakers during the long and dreary winter months by attending the monthly meetings... we have an interesting program planned for January with a timely presentation on trout fishing. Congratulations to Lee Dantzler, 2005 Angler of the Year. Lee received his award at our Holiday Gala meeting in November. Tony French finished in 2nd place and Jim Gregson finished in 3rd place. Keep It Light! Tony French Fishing Reports Inside: The red drum and speckled trout are still doing well in the marshes, tidal creeks, as well as around the Cape Lookout rock jetty. Fishing in the dark has produced better than during the daytime. Piers/Surf: Some of the piers were catching large numbers of nice speckled trout, spots and some sea mullet. They are also getting some red drum and bluefish with a few flounder mixed in. Nearshore: There have been a few nice stripers caught, but the large numbers of them are not here due to the scarcity of the large menhaden. There is a good bite of sea bass and snapper on or nearshore rocks and reefs. One recent trip produced good snapper and sea bass on the boxcars out at AR 345 using whole shrimp as bait. Offshore: Due to warm weather and the lack of large schools of menhaden, the bluefin bite has been spotty at best, with about 200 fish brought to the docks. Speaker for January Gene Wilson had 20 years of working offshore boats until he decided it was time to have some fun, so he became an inshore pleasure fisherman working for Joe Shute. Gene will be the first speaker of the new year with an informative presentation on the how, what, when, and the hot spots for his favorite fish, the Gray Trout. For Sale... Call Herb Stanford 240-0346 ([email protected]) for the following item: Bimini top for sale, blue, 3-bar type, 78" w x 54" h (open). About 10 years old, but in fair/good condition. $25.00 The Saltwater Light Tackle Fishing Club meets once a month and is open to anyone who enjoys the thrill of catching fish on light tackle. The officers, board members, and club members have agreed to target speckled trout, puppy drum, and flounder as the club's major focus. Some of the Club's goals and objectives include working to improve water quality, to assist in the study and construction of inshore reefs, and to promote speckled trout tagging as well as catch and release programs. The SLTFC is designed to provide an informal atmosphere in which to exchange information, provided by monthly speakers and other club members, about tackle and techniques to improve your fishing skills. Anyone interested in learning more about light tackle fishing, whether it be from pier, surf, or inshore boat, is invited to join the Club. Come see our new line of Scout Boats! 156 Radio Island Rd.
