Auction
4-H Auction brings big numbers
COLUMBIA CITY — The 2016
Whitley County 4-H fair ended with
the annual 4-H auction, with a grand
total of approximately $380,986 for
453 lots.
Along with cattle, goats, rabbits, sheep, swine, poultry, and dairy
cheese, seven miscellaneous items
sold this year:
The 2016 Miss Whitley County
kiss sold for $2,537 to a large group
of local supporters.
Amber Ferrell, the 2016 Pork
Cooper Parish auctions off his feeder calf. Parish’s calf
Queen,
sold her kiss for $1,775.
was the highest individual sale of the auction, selling
The Horse and Pony club sold a
for $12,450.
basket of goodies for $100.
The horse head carving which had
been displayed outside the show barn
during much of fair week sold for
$671.
The profits from the carving will
go towards grounds drainage.
An autographed Love & Theft CD
sold for $300. The band was the headlining act at this year’s 4-H concert.
An autographed Lauren Alaina
CD also sold at the auction for $200.
Alaina opened for Love & Theft at this
year’s concert.
The Junior Miss Whitley County
kiss sold for $150.
The dairy steer category brought
in the most money from the auction,
totaling to $97,068 from 43 lots.
However, it was the sheep category
that broke records this year, as Amber
Ferrell sold her Grand Champion
Market Lamb for $5,555.
Her buyers included a large number
of community supporters.
The highest individual sale of
the auction went to Cooper Parish, a
10-year member, who sold his feeder
calf for $12,450.
Parish’s sale was not declared a
record-breaker due to the fact that his
calf did not win Grand Champion or
Reserve Grand Champion.
