The hot cross buns and Easter eggs have been in the shops for a long time already but now we look forward to the Easter break. We have celebrated twenty two Easter seasons since we began official transmission in Dec of 1990. Our last issue was just prior to Christmas so we hope you enjoy reading this edition of the 96.5FM News. It's always a pleasure to reconnect with our regular listeners and welcome the many new ones that join us as the year goes by. I was delighted to get the first call of the year from 'Percy', our regular hammock swinger, who sets himself up every Thursday morning, from 11am to 1pm, to chill out with Bill Gosstray's, Top Hat, White Tie and Tails, a relaxing beverage in one hand and a ham sandwich in the other. Maybe that's what we all need, for a couple of hours a week, to be strung up between tall, shady trees in a Comfy hammock, tuned into 96.5FM. Bliss!! Our studio, being situated at the posterior end of Warringal Shopping Centre and, being without windows, gives us little idea of the weather outside and, as many of our listeners are avid weather watchers, their updates are always appreciated. Sadly, some of our regular listeners are struggling with health problems but still manage to call in, regardless, with their cheery comments and correct answers to our competition. I know many of them say how much 96.5 FM cheers them up throughout the week. I know that when I leave the studio, after sharing the phones with Lois each Thursday, I have a spring in my step and a tune in my head that lasts the rest of the day. It's a real pleasure to be on the Front Desk with Lois, taking your calls, and enjoying the presentations of the day. Looking forward to more of the same, throughout 2013. OB Saturday Express goes on location to Brunswick On Saturday the 9th of March the Saturday Express programme hosted by Ron Lopes was broadcast from the stage of Bridie O’Reilly’s Hotel (the old Sarah Sands) in Brunswick. This was part of a fundraiser for former Celtic Thunder star Paul Byrom and the outside broadcast was a big success. Rosie Phillips from the official fan club The Southern Cross Shielas was one of the organisers. During the programme Ron Lopes interviewed Paul Byrom who was in the USA preparing to perform in a special PBS television show. The young Irish singer is very popular in Australia and throughout the world. Many of our team were at the OB including Peter Forbes, David Miller and Joseph Zampichelli. Tim Armstrong provided strong technical support. To quote Ron Lopes,”Why don’t we do this more often?” A great outside broadcast from 96.5FM and well done everyone. Ron Lopes and David Miller . Volume 2, Issue 1 Page 3 Reg Gorman at 96.5FM Special Features Sunday at 12.45 pm during That’s Entertainment ***** Reg Gorman is joined by John Gillespie, David Miller, Sandra McCurdy and Robert Williams Sunday at 9.00 pm during Memory Lane Steptoe and Son On Sunday 17th of March (St Patrick’s Day) one of Australia’s famous actors and comedians Reg Gorman was a special guest on That’s Entertainment. Reg played “Jack the Barman” on The Sullivans for seven years and has appeared in many television shows and stage productions. We even got Reg to sign our studio celebrity guest book. Reg will be special guest at the Jolson Society meeting on Monday 25th March. Albert Steptoe [Wilfred Bramwell] and son Harold [Harry H. Corbett] were rag ‘n bone men. In real life Bramwell was only thirteen years older than Corbett. Who was it? In our last newsletter we asked you to name this person on the left. And it was Ron Lloyd (Sir Ron). Bottom right is our “mystery child” for March – we’ll tell you who it is in our next edition when all will be revealed. Clues The youngster in this photo has been with 96.5FM for quite some time working both on air and behind the scenes. Xxx Hi, I was traveling home tonight listening to your station at around 8:30pm and I heard two songs, Cry Me A River and the Steely Dan song Do It Again. Could you please let me know who sang both those versions tonight as they were fantastic! Kind regards, David Good job with the programme Rob. Thinking of you. Hi guys, love your station, need to know the name of a piece of music I heard driving to work wed morning approx 4.46 am. Tried your playlist page-no result. Love the 3XY countdown with Dr Keats on Sat morn. Thanks to McDonalds for more than 20 years of support to 96.5 Rgds n'that Andrew. Please play more of The Conversations! Love them! G'day Gareth, I'm listening to your radio for the very first time, and let me say, Mate, Well Done. Your choice of music covers all the decades of great Aussie music. When I connected this afternoon, I had returned from my local RSL, and didn't win a meat tray or even a share in the Membership Draw, so how prophetic was the opening song, Someday I'll Have Money by Spectrum. Your site is a Goldmine of music. Cheers, Colleen. Hello, I was running late driving to university and I happened to be switching radio channels and I came across 96.5 for the first time, and I heard a song at roughly 8.55am on Thursday Madmoizelle, it made my morning! Not only that but the lady presenting. I salute you! I look forward to listening to my new favourite radio station, don't know why it has taken me this long! chum :) ps. How wonderful to hear Paul Byrom's outstanding voice on Australian radio - at last - THANK YOU. Hi Girls Wow congratulations on ya DJ how about some 1960 music Oma is listening too. Opa Smit. Re The Conversations: I think the music transcends what I hear in Oregon, USA. If you play more of them, I can hear the new sounds that I like because they don't perform where I live, unfortunately for me! Barry, Wanted to send out a huge thank you for spinning "Down That Dusty Road" tonight. Everyone here in Kalamazoo, Michigan knows who Barry Wass is now. lol You have new fans now... Thanks again friend.... Stuart Shaw Three messages from Kevin Yates on holidays: Hello everyone. What a day! Tomorrow back to Disneyland parks C u all soon Kevin Y. Hey everyone. Here I am still in Anaheim California & having a great time! The crowds at Disney resort have been big with wait times for some rides as much as 2hrs!! Getting used to the money, walking on the right hand site of the sidewalk (footpath), tipping waitresses and taxi drivers & American television on 40 odd stations in the USA Till next time Have a nice day Kevin. Greetings Ian from Laung Prabang, Laos. I'm listening on line when the internet allows! Our mutual friend is recovering after surgery (to his big toe). Perhaps a call out from your program will cheer Ricky up! I'll try to call you on Skype. Great program as usual. Regards, John B Page 6 The 96.5FM News Listener Comments Some more comments Just a short note to let you know that I have enjoyed listening to Soozie Pinder & Chrissy Cavarra over the past few months on your community radio station. These delightful ladies are amazing, who know how the capture the audience on live radio, their zany characters are so refreshing and their infectious energy is so catchy. Hoping you can continue to give them an ongoing session on a regular basis because they are truly sensational, also I personally had no idea about community radio prior and now a very regular listener, so wonders never cease. Cheers Ange Lannelli-Amore Hi, Soozie and Chrissy should have their own show. Wild Girls is so much fun to listen to. With a show like theirs on your station in a permanent time slot would bring your ratings up. I am from the S/E suburbs and I listen in. Regards Brett Re: Peter "Biggles" Forbes. Hearing you loud and clear in The Donga old boy. The Cook Just saying hello to tell you that I'm enjoying your Sunday morning music on what is still Saturday night in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast. I enjoy all kinds of music and searching the internet for stations I haven't heard before. Came across 96.5 Inner FM two days ago and am enjoying the various shows. All the best! Loran Fevens Oma is listening too. Opa Smit.
