The 11th Annual Oak Acres Charity Golf Tournament
The 11th Annual Oak Acres Charity Golf Tournament took place this year on June 17 with
approximately 200 golfers playing at Avondale and Stanhope Golf Courses and coming from as
far as Ontario and Alberta. It was a beautiful sunny day and in the evening golfers enjoyed a
delicious meal followed by an amazing performance by the talented Michael Burgess. His
beautiful songs added a very special touch to the night.
A thank you to our corporate sponsors - Westjet, Confederation Bridge, Rotomill and Gretzky
Estates Winery. With the generosity of the sponsors and participants in the tournament, the net
proceeds from this event contribute to the operation of the Oak Acres Children’s Camp which
allows 500 children to enjoy a total summer camping experience.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to my great co-workers, friends and family who I call
upon to volunteer at different charity events for Oak Acres Children’s Foundation. Hats off to all
the volunteers who are there to help day and night to make our events successful. I can never
thank you enough.
A huge thank you to Angela our Camp Director and her staff for getting the camp off to another
perfect start. We are now starting Camp #3. Where is the summer going?
Debbie Doucette, Executive Director of Oak Acres Children's Foundation
D.P. Murphy Inc. is pleased to announce the
addition of the Stanhope Beach Resort to the our
hotel group. Stanhope Beach Resort is rich in
history dating back two centuries. The Resort has
been tastefully renovated and continues to offer the
very best in bay and beach views and a perfect
blend of casual elegance. We are pleased to
welcome Celeste Coles, General Manager and her
team to the family. We very much look forward to
having the Resort as our fifth hotel property and sole
independent brand.

Our Head Office Team takes great pride in their jobs. Whether it’s the waves of the
busy day to day tasks or any one of the many events we organize for the company
they handle it all in stride and with a smile.
Great Job Ladies and Paul. You are the best!!

D. P. Murphy Inc. Head Office Manager
What’s “boring” to you is “service” to the customer.
As Employees you know the sometimes
boring and mundane aspects of your
job by heart, and details can potentially
get overlooked during the upcoming
busy Summer months. I’m talking
about the basics: picking up garbage
from the dining room floor, making sure
the condiment stand is spotless, giving
fast, friendly and accurate service
during all dayparts, a smiling and
prompt greeting at the front counter,
keeping the doors clean, hot food hot,
cold food cold, clean bathrooms, and a
drive-through order-taker who greets
the 500th guest that shift with the same
energy and enthusiasm they showed to
the first. Handling these basics are the
“green fees” of the customer’s service
expectations. To the guest’s way of
thinking, the service “basics” are just
expected to be there during all visits.
I feel confident that 2009 will be the
best and busiest summer yet, because
we have the Employees and Managers
who will make the service excellence
difference. So whether you will be
selling coffee, hamburgers or hotel
rooms, a thank you from our guests!

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites

Hi Folks:
It's a warm summer day as I gaze around
the hotel grounds seeing outside
renovations in full force... the Holiday Inn Express in
Charlottetown is getting quite a facelift and will look
fantastic when completed! Tremendous thank you to
John Devries and his crew for improving the quality of
our hotel!
The folks at the Holiday Inn Express Charlottetown have
been extremely busy as we head full force into high
demand times for the summer season... we welcome all
new team members and wish all a safe and enjoyable
summer! We recently held a team building event at
Stanhope Beach Resort where all had a fabulous time
on their scavenger hunts, playing trivia and eating great
BBQ food...congrats to all the winners (you know who
you are)! It was a great opportunity for our folks to
view the Stanhope Resort and they were WOW'd with
what they saw... great venue for meetings! Check out
the Islander Special rate that is being offered for
Stanhope Beach Resort... take your family and enjoy a
breathtaking experience!
Some of the front desk angels also recently had some
fun touring the new Cow's Creamery Factory and had
the opportunity to enjoy some yummy ice cream! We
will recommend this newest tour product to the
thousands of island visitors that we will welcome this
season and of course continue to provide the utmost in
Guest Courtesy while we play host to our tourist friends.
Enjoy your summer!

Hampton Inn supports Sick Children’s
Fund: Team Hampton is still going strong.
This year Hampton Inn & Suites Moncton
decided to enroll a team for the Greater
Moncton Dragon Boat Festival 2009 held June 6th,
2009. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a
steersperson compete in a 46’ boat and these
paddlers help to raise funds to support worthy
causes including the Moncton Lions Club Sick
Children’s Fund. This elite team shared their efforts
with the Future Inns Hotel across the highway to
raise funds and become competitive within the
Corporate Challenge. We had two races to compete
in, placed 2nd in the first race and 1st in the second
race.
Here is a photo of the gang in one of their fund
raising ventures, a barbeque held for our guests of
the hotel, watch out “Chef Joey” at the Grill!!! The
entire team raised $1700.00 which contributed
towards the $98,000.00 this festival raised in the 2
day event. “Way to go Team Hampton”.

On eight consecutive Tuesday nights during the
Stanley Cup Playoffs our Priority Club guests were
treated to a night of Complimentary Beverages,
H’dourves, Prizes, and a terrific game. The Great
Room was decorated like an upscale Sports Bar
and our Big Screen updated to Hi Def. to catch all
of the action. Each guest received a ballot prior to
the game where they could select whose team
would score the first goal, penalty, etc. with the
winner receiving a choice of a free night
Certificate or 10,000 Priority Club Points.
The event peaked over the final two weeks of the
Playoffs and we overflowed into our Breakfast
Bar averaging 50 guests attending per night
which included a pre-game Tailgate/Barbecue.
“WOW…this is awesome!!” was heard time and
time again. Over the eight “Hockey Nights” the
Hotel ran an amazing 97% occupancy rate.

Super 8 Charlottetown
The summer was a long time coming but it’s definitely been worth the wait! We are very excited to
get back into the swing of things in what looks to be a very busy summer, with our different concert

thank all the staff for helping me get ready for the season, you guys are the best! Like always, the
summer time brings people to the Island from all around the world and we are all looking forward to meeting
everyone and making their Island vacation a memorable one. We hope everyone has a great summer, don’t

DP MURPHY HOTEL GROUP CONFERENCE – FIRST OF ITS KIND!
On June 6th & 7th, the D.P. Murphy Hotel Group held it inaugural regional conference
at our newly acquired Stanhope Beach Resort. General Managers, sales folks and
all department heads got together for a nice evening tour of the resort and dinner.
The next day brought us a sales panel of guest speakers including Jennifer Evans
from NewCap Radio, Stephen Cudmore from BMO Nesbitt Burns, Laura Murphy from
Arbonne and our very own Dianne Griffin. We then split into two groups where the
breakfast bar, housekeeping and maintenance staff toured the Charlottetown
properties and talked through the new "Clean Sweep" program and contest for our
hotels with Martie. Like our fantastic facilities staff, we are very passionate about
cleanliness and upkeep of our properties and very much look forward to the roll out
of this exciting incentive program.
The front office, sales and management group met to discuss further sales initiatives
to continue to sell our hotels and the roll out of an incredible contest amongst the
hotels. Pascal Pisegna from the Hampton Inn in Moncton was the lucky winner of a
brand new Ford Mustang GT convertible to drive for a month. The car will be drawn
for monthly amongst the hotels using ballots earned by sales activities. With the
very recent acquisition of the Stanhope Beach Resort, the DP Murphy Hotel Group
continues to grow at a very rapid pace. We are very proud of the hotel company we
are growing into and the fine operations and people within it. We are a hotel
company that will continue to focus on four main pillars that will give us the strength
to WOW our guests and grow our business for a long time to come:
1. Team Members - We are very proud of the fine folks working in our hotels and
recognize the essential hard work done day in and day out to keep things running
smoothly. We are also proud to promote from within and believe we are the best
hotel company to work for and have a wide range of career and employment
opportunities to offer passionate and driven people.
2. Service - We commit to wowing our guests each and every stay. With the roll out
of the Guest Experience Champion program at the Holiday Inn Expresses and similar
initiatives at the other hotels, we believe that guests will not want to stay anywhere
else after experience our genuine hospitality.
3. Reinvestment - We will continuously improve and reinvest into our existing
properties and actively look for growth opportunities in new properties to our group.
4. Sales - Fuelled by the confidence in our product and staff, we commit to being
very aggressive in asking potential clients if we can have a chance earn their
business. We have a lot to offer potential guests and will continue to make growing
our business a top priority.
In closing, as we enter a busy summer season in our hotels, I would like to extend a
huge thank you to each and every staff member in the hotels. We receive many
comment cards and the most common theme is the incredible feedback on the
genuine service received and "at home" they feel in our properties. It is a tough job
being on the road, and being told you make someone feel at home and welcome and
that they look forward to returning to our hotels is absolutely the biggest compliment
you can be paid in this business. Congratulations! Very well done.
Have a great summer all!
