The 11th Annual Oak Acres Charity Golf Tournament The 11th Annual Oak Acres Charity Golf Tournament took place this year on June 17 with approximately 200 golfers playing at Avondale and Stanhope Golf Courses and coming from as far as Ontario and Alberta. It was a beautiful sunny day and in the evening golfers enjoyed a delicious meal followed by an amazing performance by the talented Michael Burgess. His beautiful songs added a very special touch to the night. A thank you to our corporate sponsors - Westjet, Confederation Bridge, Rotomill and Gretzky Estates Winery. You are the best!! Laurie Dove D. P. Murphy Inc. Head Office Manager What’s “boring” to you is “service” to the customer. As Employees you know the sometimes boring and mundane aspects of your job by heart, and details can potentially get overlooked during the upcoming busy Summer months. I’m talking about the basics: picking up garbage from the dining room floor, making sure the condiment stand is spotless, giving fast, friendly and accurate service during all dayparts, a smiling and prompt greeting at the front counter, keeping the doors clean, hot food hot, cold food cold, clean bathrooms, and a drive-through order-taker who greets the 500th guest that shift with the same energy and enthusiasm they showed to the first. Handling these basics are the “green fees” of the customer’s service expectations. To the guest’s way of thinking, the service “basics” are just expected to be there during all visits. I feel confident that 2009 will be the best and busiest summer yet, because we have the Employees and Managers who will make the service excellence difference. So whether you will be selling coffee, hamburgers or hotel rooms, a thank you from our guests! Peter Longley Division Manager Wendy’s Restaurants of P.E.I. Kathy Weatherbie General Manager Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, Charlottetown Hampton Inn & Suites Moncton Hampton Inn supports Sick Children’s Fund: Team Hampton is still going strong. This year Hampton Inn & Suites Moncton decided to enroll a team for the Greater Moncton Dragon Boat Festival 2009 held June 6th, 2009. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson compete in a 46’ boat and these paddlers help to raise funds to support worthy causes including the Moncton Lions Club Sick Children’s Fund. This elite team shared their efforts with the Future Inns Hotel across the highway to raise funds and become competitive within the Corporate Challenge. We had two races to compete in, placed 2nd in the first race and 1st in the second race. Here is a photo of the gang in one of their fund raising ventures, a barbeque held for our guests of the hotel, watch out “Chef Joey” at the Grill!!! The entire team raised $1700.00 which contributed towards the $98,000.00 this festival raised in the 2 day event. “Way to go Team Hampton”. Pascal Pisegna General Manager Hampton Inn & Suites, Moncton Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Saint John On eight consecutive Tuesday nights during the Stanley Cup Playoffs our Priority Club guests were treated to a night of Complimentary Beverages, H’dourves, Prizes, and a terrific game. Each guest received a ballot prior to the game where they could select whose team would score the first goal, penalty, etc. with the winner receiving a choice of a free night Certificate or 10,000 Priority Club Points. The event peaked over the final two weeks of the Playoffs and we overflowed into our Breakfast Bar averaging 50 guests attending per night which included a pre-game Tailgate/Barbecue. “WOW…this is awesome!!” was heard time and time again. Kirk MacDonald General Manager, Super 8 DP MURPHY HOTEL GROUP CONFERENCE – FIRST OF ITS KIND! On June 6th & 7th, the D.P. Murphy Hotel Group held it inaugural regional conference at our newly acquired Stanhope Beach Resort. The next day brought us a sales panel of guest speakers including Jennifer Evans from NewCap Radio, Stephen Cudmore from BMO Nesbitt Burns, Laura Murphy from Arbonne and our very own Dianne Griffin. We then split into two groups where the breakfast bar, housekeeping and maintenance staff toured the Charlottetown properties and talked through the new "Clean Sweep" program and contest for our hotels with Martie. Like our fantastic facilities staff, we are very passionate about cleanliness and upkeep of our properties and very much look forward to the roll out of this exciting incentive program. In closing, as we enter a busy summer season in our hotels, I would like to extend a huge thank you to each and every staff member in the hotels. We receive many comment cards and the most common theme is the incredible feedback on the genuine service received and "at home" they feel in our properties. It is a tough job being on the road, and being told you make someone feel at home and welcome and that they look forward to returning to our hotels is absolutely the biggest compliment you can be paid in this business. Congratulations! Very well done. Have a great summer all!
