Founded in 1857, by Johan Kähr, Kährs is one of the oldest wood flooring producers in the world – and
the most innovative.
Our many inventions have transformed the production of wood. In 1941, Kährs was granted a patent
for a multi-layered wood floor - and our range is still based on this tried-and-tested construction method.
Today, Kährs range of wood floors spans countless species, patterns and finishes, as well as
complementary accessories and an Activity Floor range. All products are suitable for both domestic
and commercial application.
Construction Benefits
Wood is affected by climatic changes, so it swells in high humidity and shrinks in low humidity. Kährs
multi-layered construction minimizes this movement, as it provides the correct balance between the
layers – top, core and back. As a result, Kährs boards are 75% more stable than a solid construction.
There are also other benefits: Kährs construction uses hardwood in the top layer only, and fast growing
timber below, so it’s more eco-friendly. Meanwhile, all products are 100% bio-degradable. They can
also be sanded and refinished in exactly the same way as a solid wood floor – down to the joint – but
with the durability of Kährs prefinishes, this is rarely needed.
During installation, Kährs glueless Woodloc® joint promotes a fast installation and a perfect, flush
finish. It also eliminates gapping throughout the lifetime of the floor.
Even stronger Kährs Woodloc®
This year, we’ll also be introducing Kährs new, improved Woodloc® 5S ‘short end’ joint. The new joint
will allow the short edge of the boards to be laid more easily - reducing installation time and cost further,
whilst producing an even stronger floor.

Combined with a complete care and maintenance programme, floors from Kährs Original range are
offered with a 30 year guarantee, and floors from Kährs 7mm Linnea range with a 12 year guarantee.
Green Production
Every aspect of our wood flooring production is geared with the environment in mind, from the proximity
of our timber stock, to the construction and finish of our product range. Over 88% of the raw material
we use grows less than 180 miles from our plant in Nybro; the same site where the company was
founded 150 years ago.
Whilst wood has been used by our ourselves, and by other manufacturers, for over a century, the
forests in Sweden have increased in size steadily over the past 100 years, with five trees planted for
every tree that’s harvested. And, our manufacturing process has been set up, and our range designed,
so that the whole log can be utilised. Any parts that can’t be turned into wood floors are converted
into bio-fuel. This provides heat for our plant and for the homes of 45,000 local residents. Ash is then
returned to the forest to fertilise the soil.
Our eco-focus is reflected throughout our production; we produce fewer emissions than a small
carpentry, have reduced waste by 30% within ten years and use a cleaning system that’s so effective
that we have permission to discharge wastewater directly into the local sewage system. And, this
commitment is demonstrated by our numerous environmental certifications, which include ISO 14001,
gained nearly ten years ago, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), EMAS (Eco-management and Audit
System), NWFA (National Wood Flooring Federation), ISO 9001, Green Globes and Green Building
Initiative.

Grading, Finishes and Hardness
Kährs range is divided into lifestyle collections which each share a distinct look. Within each group,
one, two and three strip, and patterned options are available, as well as a choice of different timber
grades.
As illustrated below, City grades have a calm, uniform appearance; Town grades have subtle variations
in tone and pattern and Country grades are lively and bold, with the knots and gnarls left in. All floors
are offered with a durable matt lacquer, satin lacquer or nature oiled prefinish. A range of washed and
stained prefinishes is also available, as well as brushed, hand-scraped, surface smoked, carbonized
and distressed finishing treatments, and bevelled edges.

Different wood species also have different degrees of hardness, though a softer timber doesn’t necessarily wear less well. Rustic grains can offer greater camouflage and modern surface treatments provide
exceptional durability across all species.

Underfloor Heating
Floors from Kährs Original and Linnea ranges are suitable for installation above underfloor heating
systems. A vapour barrier should always be used, between the heating system and wood floor; Kährs
recommends its Tuplex underlay, which combines an underlay with a vapour barrier. It’s important that
the system is turned off before installation and that the surface temperature never exceeds 27°c across
the entire surface (including under rugs and furniture), as this could create humidity/moisture issues.
Note. Kährs Activity Floor is also suitable for this type of installation. However, the nature of its composition increases thermal resistance.

A library of professional resources can now be accessed via Kährs homepage at www.kahrs.co.uk.
Information areas have been developed specifically for: Architects and Designers; Builders and Contractors; Flooring Installers, and Retailers. Whilst content varies within each section, features across
the professional site area include worldwide photo references, company and product information, environmental data, store concepts, tips on installation and equipment, and an online sample ordering
facility. Technical specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, environmental and quality
documents, and brochure material can also be downloaded.
New online sales tools include Kährs Virtual Showroom. Accessed directly from Kährs home page, the
virtual showroom allows customers to select a room style and then lay the floor of their choice. The
showroom includes 108 flooring options, in different species, patterns, finishes and thicknesses. Wall
shades and colours of furniture can be changed instantly, rooms can be viewed at different angles and
images printed for further reference.

Kährs Original Range
Kährs Oak Nouveau White
Product Range
Kährs Original range includes 14 different flooring collections, including the new Supreme, Artisan and
Coastal Collections. All products feature Kährs multi-layered construction, glueless Woodloc® joint and
are suitable for both commercial and domestic installation. Boards from different collections can be
combined but short ends cannot be laid at right angles to long edges. All floors are offered with a 30
year guarantee; see page 8 for further details.
Surface Treatments
The hardwood surface layer of each board is approx. 3.5mm, with soft wood layers below. Surface
treatments, for dry areas subject to normal wear, include UV cured polyurethane/acrylic-based satin
lacquer (approx. 30° Gardner), matt lacquer (approx. 10° Gardner) and matt oiled matt (approx. 10°
Gardner). All treatments are solvent and formaldehyde free. They provide a durable, easy care
surface, without disguising the wood’s nature character. Washed and stained prefinishes are also
available on certain products, as well as brushed, hand-scraped, surface smoked, carbonized and
distressed finishing treatments, and bevelled edges.

Surface Treatments
The hardwood veneer surface layer of each board is approx. 0.6mm, with a HDF (high density
fibreboard) middle layer and wood veneer base. Surface treatments, for dry areas subject to normal
wear, include UV cured polyurethane/acrylic-based satin lacquer (approx. 30° Gardner), matt lacquer
(approx. 10° Gardner) and matt oiled matt (approx. 10° Gardner). All treatments are solvent and
formaldehyde free. They provide a durable, easy care surface, without disguising the wood’s nature
character. A range of stained, brushed and bevelled finishes are also available on narrow-format
boards.

Kährs range of Activity Floors feature integral shock-absorption and reinforcement properties.
Compliant with both DIN and new EN Standards, the FSC-mix boards can be laid directly onto a
subfloor, eliminating the need for additional battens and fittings. Kährs glueless Woodloc® joint gives
strength, perfect joints between boards and enables the floor to be laid 50% more quickly than an
ordinary sports floor; it can also be easily removed for relaying elsewhere, if required.

Construction and Surface Treatment
The Activity Floor surface layer is 3.6mm and the total thickness is 30mm, giving a very low
construction height. Each board provides overlapping pressure distribution, with HDF board across
joints on both long and short sides, whilst resilient expanded foam absorbs energy and eliminates
springing. A durable UV-cured lacquer prefinish provides easy maintenance without disguising the
wood’s nature character. All treatments are solvent and formaldehyde free.
Performance and Compliance
Kährs Activity Floor exceeds all categories of DIN
testing carried out by the Norwegian Building Research
Institute, including energy absorption, deformation, ball
bounce, rolling load and friction, and also complies to
new EN Standards. It has been chosen by the FISAF
as the official floor for the World & European Aerobics
Championships through to 2011 and is used in numerous
UK sports installations, including the 1100 m2 Valley
Leisure Centre in County Antrim.

Definitions and Interpretation
In these Conditions unless the context otherwise requires the following words shall have the following meanings:
Buyer means the buyer named in the Order Confirmation;
Company means Kährs (UK) Limited registered in England and Wales (registered number 01028638) whose registered office is at 4 Sudley
Road, Bognor Regis, West Sussex PO21 1EU;
Contract means the contract for the sale and purchase of the Goods from the Company to the Buyer;
Conditions means the conditions of sale set out in this document and any special conditions set out on the Order Confirmation;
Goods means the goods, the quantity and description of which are set out in the Order Confirmation;
Interest Rate means the interest rate of 4% per annum above the Bank of England base rate ;
Order Confirmation means the Company’s confirmation of the order for Goods;
Price means the price for the Goods and all other charges set out in the Order Confirmation;
Working Days means any day from Monday to Friday inclusive but excluding bank and public holidays.
In these Conditions unless the context otherwise requires:
1.2.1
headings shall not affect the interpretation of these Conditions;
1.2.2
any reference to a statutory provision shall include references to that provision as from time to time modified or re-enacted (save
to the extent that modifications or re-enactments made after the date of the Contract impose any new or extended liability or
restriction on the Company or Buyer);
1.2.3
any reference to a person includes any person, firm or company or other legal entity; and
1.2.4
the singular includes the plural and vice versa and any gender includes any other gender.
Basis of Sale
These Conditions shall govern the Contract and all other terms and conditions are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law. No
variation to these Conditions shall be binding unless expressly agreed in writing by the Company.
All drawings, descriptive matter, specifications and advertising issued by the Company and any descriptions or illustrations contained in the
Company’s catalogues or brochures are issued or published for the sole purpose of giving an approximate idea of the Goods described in
them. They will not form part of this Contract.
Any typographical, clerical or other error or omission in any sales literature, Quotation, price list, Order Confirmation, invoice or other
document or information issued by the Company shall be subject to correction without any liability on the part of the Company.
Any quotation given by the Company is valid for such period as is specified in the quotation or, if no date is specified, for 30 days from
its date unless the Company withdraws it earlier, and is given on the basis that no Contract shall come into existence until the Company
despatches an Order Confirmation to the Buyer.
Orders and Specifications
The quality and description of the Goods shall be as set out in the Order Confirmation.
The Company reserves the right to make any changes, at any time, to any of the products it supplies. .
No order in respect of which an Order Confirmation has been issued by the Company may be cancelled by the Buyer except with the written
agreement of the Company and on terms that the Buyer pays a handling charge equal to 20% of the Price plus any cost or expense (whether
of transportation or otherwise) incurred by the Company in connection with the cancellation. If the Goods are not regularly stocked by Kahrs
or have been obtained, manufactured or modified specifically for the Buyer the Company reserves the right to permit cancellation of the
order on terms that the Buyer indemnify the Company in full against all loss (including loss of profit), costs (including the cost of all labour
and transportation used), and all damages, charges and expenses incurred by the Company as a result of cancellation.
Price
The Company reserves the right, by giving written notice to the Buyer at any time before delivery, to increase the Price to reflect:
4.1.1
any change in delivery dates or quantities for the Goods which is requested by the Buyer; or
4.1.2
any delay caused by any instructions of the Buyer or failure of the Buyer to give the Company adequate information or
instructions.
The Price is exclusive of any value added tax and any other duties or taxes, which the Buyer shall be additionally liable to pay to the
Company at the same time as and as part of the charges to which they relate.
Payment
Unless condition 5.2 applies, the Buyer shall make full payment for the Goods prior to delivery and the Company reserves the right to
withhold deliveries until payment is made.
Where the Buyer has successfully applied for a credit account with the Company the Buyer shall pay the Price within 30 days of the last day
of the month of the invoice or by such other date set out in the Order Confirmation. The Company reserves the right to alter the credit status
of a Buyer or remove a credit account from a Buyer at any time.
All payments shall be made in Sterling and by direct transfer to the Company’s nominated bank account.
No payment shall be deemed received until the Company has received cleared funds. The time of payment of the Price shall be of the
essence of the Contract.
The Company shall be entitled to recover the Price, notwithstanding that delivery may not have taken place and the property in the Goods
has not passed to the Buyer.
In the event of late payment by a Buyer, or if the financial status or credit rating of the Buyer appears to be unsatisfactory to the Company, the
Company reserves the right (without limiting any other right or remedy available to the Company), to suspend deliveries of the Goods (or any
other goods ordered by the Buyer from the Company); and/or cancel the Contract and/or charge the Buyer interest on monies outstanding
at the Interest Rate from the date payment became due until the actual date of payment.
The Buyer shall make all payments due under a Contract without any deduction whether by way of set off, counterclaim, discount, abatement
or otherwise unless the Buyer has a valid court order requiring an amount equal to such deduction to be paid by the Company to the
Buyer.
The Company reserves the right to carry out credit reference searches against the Buyer and/or the Buyer’s principal, partners and/or
directors at any time. Any record of such searches will be held at the Company’s office.
Delivery
The place of delivery shall be as stated in the Order Confirmation.
Standard deliveries to the UK mainland are made within approximately 1 to 10 Working Days of the date of the Order Confirmation subject
to availability. The Goods will be delivered by the Company’s appointed carrier in normal business hours on Working Days unless otherwise
agreed between the parties. The Company will charge for delivery in accordance with the tariffs and rates set out in the Company’s price
list current at the date of the order Confirmation.
All deliveries must be signed for by or on behalf of the Buyer.
Any dates specified by the Company for delivery of the Goods are intended to be an estimate and time for delivery shall not be of the
essence nor made of the essence by notice. The Company shall not be liable for any loss or damage occurring through any failure or inability
to meet such dates.

Where the Goods are to be delivered in instalments, each delivery shall constitute a separate contract and failure by the Company to deliver
any one or more of the instalments in accordance with these Conditions, or any claim by the Buyer in respect of any one or more instalments,
shall not entitle the Buyer to treat the Contract as a whole as repudiated.
If for any reason whatsoever the Buyer fails to take delivery of any of the Goods due to the Buyer’s fault the provisions of condition 3.3 shall
apply as if the order for the Goods had been cancelled, and the Company reserves the right to resell the Goods.:
Any liability of the Company for non-delivery or short delivery of the Goods shall be limited to replacing the undelivered Goods within a
reasonable time or issuing a credit note at the pro rata Contract rate against any invoice raised for such Goods.
The Company shall not be liable for any short delivery of Goods unless written notice is given to the Company within 5 Working Days from
the delivery of the remaining Goods.
If the Company fails to deliver the Goods and has not been in touch with the Buyer to rearrange the delivery date the Buyer shall be entitled
to cancel the Contract for non-delivery on the expiry of 15 Working Days after giving the Company written notice of the Buyer’s intention to
cancel the Contract.
Goods shall be presumed to be accepted if the relevant delivery note is signed by or on behalf of the Buyer.
Returns
If any of the Goods are damaged or do not comply with the Order Confirmation the Buyer shall be entitled to return the Goods to the
Company if the Buyer notifies the Company within 5 Working Days of delivery and the Goods have been signed for and the delivery note is
marked to the effect that the Goods are damaged or do not comply with the Order Confirmation. In such case the Company’s liability shall
be limited to replacing the Goods (within a reasonable time) or issuing a credit note for the Price together with the cost of any transportation
for the return of the Goods by the Buyer and redelivery to the Buyer.
If the Buyer wishes to return the Goods for any reason other than as specified in condition 7.1, the Company shall at its discretion agree to
the return of the Goods provided the Buyer:
7.2.1
notifies the Company within 5 Working Days of delivery and obtains a returns number from the Company; and
7.2.2
the Goods are returned in their original unopened packaging within 10 Working Days from delivery; and
7.2.3
the Buyer pays a handling charge equal to 20% of the Price plus any cost or expense (whether of transportation or otherwise)
incurred by the Company in connection with the return.
If the Goods are not regularly stocked by Kahrs or have been obtained, manufactured or modified specifically for the Buyer the Company
reserves the right to permit return of the Goods on terms that the Buyer indemnify the Company in full against all loss (including loss of
profit), costs (including the cost or expense of all labour and transportation used), and all damages, charges and expenses incurred by the
Company as a result of the return.
Risk and Title
The Goods are at the risk of the Buyer from the time of delivery and shall be deemed delivered as follows:
8.1.1
where the Goods are to be collected from the Company’s premises (or third party logistics provider) from the time the Company
notifies the Buyer in writing that the Goods are available for collection; or
8.1.2
where the Goods are to be delivered by the Company (or third party carrier) from the time the Goods are delivered to the
address set out in the Order Confirmation (or such other address as agreed in writing between the parties); or
8.1.3
if the Buyer wrongfully fails to take delivery of the Goods, at the time the Goods are tendered for delivery.
Ownership of the Goods shall not pass to the Buyer until the Company has received in full all sums due to it in respect of:
8.2.1
the Goods; and
8.2.2
all other sums which are or which become due to the Company from the Buyer on any account.
Until ownership of the Goods has passed to the Buyer (and provided that the Goods are in existence and have not been resold), the Buyer
must:
8.3.1
keep the Goods separate from those of the Buyer and third parties;
8.3.2
keep the Goods properly stored, protected, insured and identified as those of the Company; and
8.3.3
hold the proceeds of the insurance referred to in condition 8.3.2 on trust for the Company and not mix them with any other
money, nor pay the proceeds into an overdrawn bank account
but the Buyer may resell or use the Goods in the ordinary course of its business.
Until ownership of the Goods has passed to the Buyer (and provided that the Goods are in existence and have not been resold), the
Company shall be entitled at any time to require the Buyer to deliver up the Goods to the Company and, if the Buyer fails to do so the Buyer
grants the Company, its agents and employees an irrevocable licence at any time to enter any premises (under the control of the Buyer)
where the Goods are stored and repossess the Goods.
The Buyer’s right to possession of the Goods shall terminate immediately if the Buyer does any act or omission whereby the Buyer, prior to
payment of the Goods:
8.5.1
has a bankruptcy order made against him; or
8.5.2
in the case of a corporate Buyer is wound up, or enters into a compromise or arrangement under the Insolvency Act 1986 or
suffers the appointment of a liquidator, receiver, administrator or administrative receiver; or
8.5.3
encumbers or in any way charges the Goods.
Warranties and Liability
The Company warrants that (subject to the other provisions of these Conditions) the Goods will be free from defects in material and
workmanship.
All warranties, conditions and other terms implied by statute or common law (save for the conditions implied by section 12 of the Sale of
Goods Act 1979) are, to the fullest extent permitted by law, excluded from the Contract.
The Company shall not be liable for a breach of the warranty in condition 9.1:
9.3.1
if the defect arises because the Buyer failed to follow the Company’s oral or written instructions, directions or warnings as to the
storage, installation, use or maintenance of the Goods or (if there are none) good trade practice;
9.3.2
if the Buyer alters or repairs the Goods without the written consent of the Company; or
9.3.3
if the defect arises from fair wear and tear, wilful damage, negligence, abnormal working conditions or misuse.
Subject to conditions 9.3 and 9.6, if any of the Goods do not conform with the warrantys in condition 9.1 the Company’s liability shall be
limited (at the Company’s option) to the repair or replacement of such Goods (or the defective part) or the refund of the Price of such Goods
(or part thereof) [subject to the Buyer notifying the Company in writing within 14 days from the date of delivery].
Subject to condition 9.4:
9.5.1
the Company’s total liability in contract, tort (including negligence or breach of statutory duty), misrepresentation, restitution
or otherwise, arising in connection with the performance or contemplated performance of this Contract shall be limited to the
Price; and
9.5.2
the Company shall not be liable to the Buyer for any pure economic loss, loss of profit, loss of business, depletion of goodwill
or otherwise, in each case whether direct, indirect or consequential, or any claims for consequential compensation whatsoever
(howsoever caused) which arise out of or in connection with the Contract.
Nothing in these Conditions excludes or limits the liability of the Company for death or personal injury caused by the Company’s negligence,
or for fraudulent misrepresentation.
Force Majeure
The Company shall not be liable to the Buyer or be deemed to be in breach of the Contract by reason of any delay in performing, or
any failure to perform any of its obligations in relation to the Goods if the delay or failure was due to any cause beyond the Company’s
reasonable control.

Assignment
The Buyer shall not be entitled to assign the Contract or any part of it without the prior written consent of the Company.
The Company may assign the Contract or any part of it to any person, firm or company.
General
If any provision of the Contract shall be found by any court or administrative body of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unenforceable,
such invalidity or unenforceability shall not affect the other provisions of the Contract which shall remain in full force and effect.
For the purposes of the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 the parties do not intend any person other than a party to the Contract
to be able to enforce any term of the Contract (save where may be expressly stated otherwise in the Contract).
Any waiver by either party of a breach of or non compliance with any provision of the Contract shall not be considered as a waiver of any
subsequent breach of or non compliance with the same or any other provision of the Contract.
All notices under the Contract shall be:
12.4.1
in writing and addressed to the recipient at the address set out in the Order Confirmation;
12.4.2
deemed to have been duly given when delivered, if delivered by messenger during normal business hours of the recipient; or on
the second Working Day following mailing, if sent by first class pre paid recorded delivery post; or at the time of transmission if
sent by fax (provided that a copy of the fax is put in the post to the recipient by first class recorded delivery post within 24 hours
of the transmission).
English law governs the Contract and the parties irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
