National
Fishing Month
National Fishing Month
25th July - 19th August 2016
For the seventh year in a row, White Acres is
supporting National Fishing Month and we’re
really looking forward to having Frenzee with us
this summer.
Frenzee are a fast growing fishing tackle company
based in Newtown, Mid Wales, who manufacture
and produce innovative fishing tackle in their
own factory.
Glyn Reynolds from Frenzee explains that “Here at
Frenzee we believe it is very important that as an
angling company we fully support National Fishing
Month and encourage all anglers but especially
the youth of today to get out on the bank. We are
proud to be a part of this great event at White Acres
so we’ll be bringing along some of the country’s
top anglers with us; Andy Oldham, Mick Bull, Jon
Whincup and Phil Canning.”
Andy Oldham
Sponsor: Frenzee and Bait-Tech.
Favourite methods: Long pole on the
deck or shallow.
Biggest match weight: 394lb 11oz.
Top tip: Never give up till the final whistle blows.
Top angling achievement: Maver British Pole
Champ 2013.
Mick Bull
Sponsor: Frenzee.
Favourite methods: Pellet feeder or
method feeder.
Biggest match weight: Commercial
match weight 248lb, River match weight 143lb,
Natural venue match weight 121lb.
Top tip: Correct bait preparation of ground bait and
pellets is paramount when fishing the method or cage
feeder. Get this wrong and it will definitely hinder your
catch rate. Take your time and put a bit of effort into
getting this right and you will reap the rewards.
Top angling achievement: 2008 Fish’O’Mania
champion.
The week will see Frenzee running a skills
school, whereby anglers of all abilities can
watch demonstrations of various methods with
explanations of why that particular set up is being
used. Guests will then be invited to try out the
equipment and methods they’ve
just seen. There’s also a
chance to win great prizes
throughout the week
with daily raffles.
Don’t forget National
Fishing Month events
are only available by
booking direct, so
don’t miss out.
New
for 2016:
Week – W/C
15th August
Jon Whincup
Sponsor: Frenzee, Bait-tech.
Favourite method: Pellets shallow,
waggler for carp.
Biggest match weight: 239lb.
Top tip: Be aware of what other people are catching
but don’t worry about it, just fish your own match and
never give up until the final whistle.
Top Angling Achievement: Current White Acres Guru
Festival champion 2016.
Phil Canning
Sponsor: Frenzee.
Favourite methods: Shallow fishing –
Rod and line work – Margin fishing.
Biggest match weight: 298lb.
Top tip: Keeping track of time is vital and helps you to
make the right moves at the right time. Fail to prepare
and prepare to fail – if fishing is hard don’t give up, try
and make it happen i.e. starting new lines and casting
to new spots.
Top angling achievement: Winner of Maver Match
This qualifiers.

he’s talking about when it comes to using Guru products!
He’s seen as a talented rising star on the match circuit and he

Adam
Rooney
What’s your favourite White Acres
lake and why?
My favourite lake is Pollawyn. I like it because it
holds a variety of fish, so depending where you draw
you can target certain species to compete in your
section. Pollawyn was also one of the first lakes to
be built at White Acres so when I visited as a child it
was the lake to be on, now when I return it always
brings back fond memories.
Most memorable fishing experience
at White Acres?
Pollawyn Lake
My most memorable fishing experience was winning
the Preston Festival in 2003, I was only young and
to beat such a strong field of anglers was amazing.
What keeps you coming back to
White Acres?
I love the festivals, seeing fellow anglers I haven’t
seen for ages and competing against the best. It’s
the place to visit if you love competition fishing. The
fishing is fantastic and the events are well organised.
What would you say to someone
thinking about fishing their first
festival?
Simple! Don’t think, do! Get yourself there! You will
never look back.
What piece of equipment or product
would you not be without on a trip to
White Acres?
My meat cutter! White Acres fish love the meat!
Your top tip for fishing at White Acres?
Don’t ignore the other species. Carp are always the
key species to catch in competitions, however, there
are so many silverfish in the lakes, you can target
them to help seal some valuable section points.
Silverfish such as bream, skimmers, tench and roach
can really help build your weight and it’s great fun
catching them too.
