As the David Mann Chopperfest reaches its
12th year, the event focus is on motorcycle art. Motorcycle art means different things to different people. To some a motorcycle is a piece
of art in and of itself, especially the antique
and custom kind you find in museums, galleries and in store fronts. To others, motorcycle art
is the culture and lifestyle captured in a photo
or painting. Since its humble beginnings, the
Chopper Fest has showcased all of the above. On December 13th, In addition to the “If You
Build It They Will Come” all brand Antique and
Custom Motorcycle Show featuring 18 classes and
over 50 awards handed out including a $2500 Best
of Show cash prize, artist from around the world
will converge to pay tribute to the man known as
the “Norman Rockwell of the motorcycle world”.
This year’s art show will feature over 50 artists, a
Biltwell Helmet Art Show, live exhibitions, David
Mann tribute art and David Mann prints, giclees
and memorabilia. David’s wife Jacquie Mann and
family will also be on hand to share stories and greet
Mann fans. The Ventura Fairgrounds is very special
place for them. In 1997, David and Jacquie were
married on site at a motorcycle swap meet put on by
Chopper Fest event producer Dave “Huggy Bear”
Hansen. Most of the art is cash and carry, so bring

ON THE COVER: Cover Art Design by Jason Cruz -www.jasoncruz.com for Chopperfest 2015
“The art show and this cover is a Tribute to David Mann” say’s
Tory DuVarney, Event Coordinator - David Mann Chopperfest.
“We asked all our participating artists to create a tribute piece and
Jason Cruz and a few others are the only ones that could make it
happen. We will have all the tribute art on display at the Chopperfest Art Show” The other artist’s work can be seen in the complete
article on page 7.
“Thank you so much for the opportunity to do this,” said Jason
Cruz, “It’s something I’ve wanted to do my whole life. It was a
strangely sad piece for me to create because my whole career didn’t
start until after he passed. I really wish I had the opportunity to
show him my work and for him to know how much he affected my
life. Every time I sit down to draw anything bike related I think of
his work. I also have his work hanging in my office. It was strange
to put so much time and detail into drawing someone who I admired and respected so much. I’ve never even drawn anyone in my
family! Guess I better start.”
The 12th Annual Chopper Fest will be held Sunday December
13th 2015 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA from
8am-4pm. Chopperfest is a tribute to the work of David Mann.
David Mann was the Easyriders center spread artist from 1971 –

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — November 18, 2015
Indian Motorcycle®, America’s first motorcycle
company, today introduced the latest addition to its
2016 lineup — the all-new Indian Scout® Sixty —
from the floor of the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. The new 999cc Scout Sixty
breaks through boundaries, promising to broadly
appeal to new rider segments with a premium motorcycle at the lowest MSRP yet for the brand. The new Indian Scout Sixty offers many of the same
features and components of the award-winning Indian® Scout®, which was introduced in 2014 at the
Black Hills Rally on the fabled “Wall of Death.” True
to the craftsmanship, reliability and legendary agility of the Indian Scout, the new Scout Sixty shares
the identical chassis, suspension, brakes and core
engine — all mated with a new 60 cubic inch engine.
Featuring 78hp, the highest horsepower in class,
and a dry weight of 542 pounds with a potent 65 ft./
lbs. of linear torque, the Scout Sixty is paired with
a silky smooth, easy-to-shift 5-speed transmission,
and starts at $8,999. Offered in three classic, bold
Indian Motorcycle colors, the Scout Sixty features a
black seat, matching black frame and wheels, and is
compatible with the many accessories already available for the Indian Scout.
DECEMBER 2015
“The Indian Scout has been a stunningly successful introduction for us, with balance, performance
and maneuverability that appeals to riders here in
America and around the globe,” said Steve Menneto, President of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries.
“The new Scout Sixty expands that reach even further to include newer riders who desire the legendary quality and craftsmanship of an Indian Motorcycle.”
The Scout Sixty is available in Thunder Black starting at $8,999, with Indian Motorcycle Red and Pearl
White color options starting at $9,299. A seat height
of 25.3 inches allows for sure-footed comfort at
stops, and the low center of gravity ensures agile
cornering, precise balance and overall rider confidence and control. A series of accessories including
seats, handlebars and footpeg relocators allow the
motorcycle to be tailored to fit each rider, while additional accessories such as saddlebags, wire wheels
and quick-release windscreens give owners virtually
unlimited freedom to customize their rides.
The new Scout Sixty is not shy on performance,
with Roland Sands Designs getting the nod as the
first to customize the new model. Sands customized
five new motorcycles to race prep them for battle in
the street bike-based class for the “Super Hooligan”
class at the Superprestigio of the Americas, slated
for November 21 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
The new Scout Sixty is already en route to dealerships around the world, and is sure to be a popular
platform for customizing and personalizing prior
to the traditional riding season kick-off at Daytona
Bike Week.
“We expect the Scout Sixty to accelerate the already
unprecedented success we have had with the new
Scout platform,” said Indian Motorcycle Market-
ing Director Scott Meek. “The custom community
has really embraced the Scout and we have experienced intense enthusiasm from DIY customizers,
dealers, pro-builders and the aftermarket.”
For more information about the Scout Sixty and
the Scout visit www.indianmotorcycle.com. For
information on the Super Hooligan race, log on to

The Hells Angels Cave
Creek Motorcycle Club
(HAMC CCC) are at it again
PHOTOS by BFC Becky Garino AZ and Fred Z
Whether you love em or you hate em you gotta
give them credit for being one of the toughest
clubs around. Once again they proved it by hosting
one of the most mind-boggling events I have ever
witnessed. Enter the event: “Bikers and Bulls” along
with a warm-up act they call “The Ring of Fire”. Ok
lets backtrack a little…HAMC CCC’s 15th annual poker
run started earlier in the day. Open to the public
these runs are a lot of fun. Towards the front of the
“Pack” the riders are excellent. Toward the back of
the “Pack” not so much. As is the case with most
runs. In most club runs, club members ride in front,
then prospects, then associates, hang-a-rounds then
the general public. We also get to ride with guys
in Black SUV’s with tinted windows and helicopters

usually tag along too…ohhh ya… and the State Hwy.
Patrol, Sheriff’s Dept, and local law enforcement.
Well at least we are safe. The run ended at the
Roadrunner Café, which happens to have a small
corral behind the restaurant as well as a stage where
a band played. People Eat, Drink, Dance and ride
Bulls…..Wait a minute… did I just say ride bulls?….
check this out…. The HAMC CCC had 25 bikers signed
up to ride bulls. And at least that many(25) to stand
in two circles drawn in the dirt, in the middle of the
corral to do a thing they call “the ring of fire” which
in this case meant 2-rings of fire. Along with 2- rodeo
clowns. These guys got plowed one, two, and three
at a time by bulls, bodies flying… The Rodeo clowns
themselves were getting thrown around… It is really
something to see, the key is to stand still
and hope the guy behind you doesn’t
blink… No Major injuries but a few guys
limping, but like the famous patch says
“If ya don’t limp you;re not a real biker.”
On to the main event. It was very difficult
to get pictures of the bull riding because
the Bulls were huge and bucked riders off
almost immediately. I did manage to get
a shot of the winner coming out of the
gate and upside down on his bull. I think
he lasted just over 5 seconds… The seats were full
all around the corral and the crowd yelling for their
favorite rider. The cheers were deafening. One rider
nicknamed Elvis stole a part of the show. After he got
bucked off he stopped next to the bull and combed
his hair…I guess you had to be there. Traci and I sat
with the “Medieval Maidens,” an all girl motorcycle
club. “The Maidens” are fun to talk to and just really
cool people. This is not my first “Rodeo” with the
HAMC CCC and, as always, I showed respect and was
given
respect,
allowed to take
photographs, and
most of all………
we had a “frickin
blast”…. Sorry I
just didn’t know how to end this ….

The Love Ride was born out of a labor of love.

has been the largest and longest-running one day
motorcycle charitable fundraising event in the
world. Grand Marshall Jay Leno has led thousands
of riders from Harley-Davidson of Glendale, CA,
to Lake Castaic annually to raise money for those
in need and to enjoy a great party. Not everyone
rode motorcycles; many came in cars as well to
enjoy the lake site and enjoy the amazing music by
bands like ZZ Top, The Black Crows, Sheryl Crowe
and many more popular musicians throughout the
years. There have been a host of surprise musical
celebrity guests, custom bike and stunt shows,
gourmet food trucks, vendor exhibition fairs and
drawings for exclusive motorcycle items and
prizes. The Grand Finale was bitter sweet but all
agreed, it couldn’t have been more of a success. 19
The final recipient of the Grand Finale Love

Veterans in attendance included
Petty Officer 3rd Class, Mr. Raymond
“Doc” Andalio who served as a Navy
Hospital Corpsman (medic) for 12
years. In 2003 in Iraq, Doc sustained
wartime injuries causing many broken bones,
brain damage, respiratory disorders and
mental stress. The Wounded Warrior Project
has provided the support he needed to have a
second chance at life:
“Wounded Warrior Project and the Love
Ride have our backs. I am deeply grateful
to all the attendees who helped. I met so
many motorcyclists who were vets, and
being around all those
people and love felt like
heaven. Raising money
for awareness shouldn’t be a job; it should be
shared and given with an open heart. And it
showed with this last Love Ride Grand Finale.
The one million dollars from everyone there
will not only make a difference to a lot of
people now—but also in the future. “
Riders and attendees who participated in
fundraising contests won prizes such as a 2015
Harley-Davidson Black Street Glide motorcycle,
an all-expense paid trip to the famous HarleyDavidson Factory and Museum in Milwaukee
Wisconsin, a tour of Jay Leno’s Garage and
more. Full winners listed at www.loveride.org This year’s Love Ride headliner concert was
the FOO FIGHTERS with lead singer Dave
Grohl. Quick Throttle interviewed Dave who
thinks so highly of Oliver Shokouh that he
purchased several bikes from him at Glendale
Harley-Davidson. Dave is an avid rider so
when he was asked to play Love Ride, he didn’t
even hesitate. Dave Grohl and fellow lead
man Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters have
both played Love Ride in previous years when
Dave was solo and Taylor with the band Chevy
Metal, always donating their time to the biker
community in and amongst their very busy
tour schedules. This year, they joined by Social
Distortion.
Social Distortion’s Mike Ne says “We’ve
wanted to be a part of the Love Ride for years
now, so we are stoked that our friends the Foo
Fighters asked us to be involved for the final
ride; which makes it bitter sweet. Founder
Oliver Shook and the Love Ride Foundation
have done an amazing job over the years
raising money and awareness for many great
organizations, so we’re looking forward to
contributing to this year’s effort and doing
our part in raising awareness for the Wounded
Warrior Project. This incredible group of people
assists our wounded service members with
their injuries, illness’, create support networks,
help with their transition back into civilian life
and more. We’re honored to be performing this
year and we’re looking forward to a great day
of rock ’n’ roll for a great cause.” – Mike Ness,
Social Distortion After 32 years of service, this was
the Love Ride’s final curtain call.
In the words of the festival’s
founder, Mr. Oliver Shokouh: “It’s
been my honor to serve these
causes for decades. And I’m
eternally grateful for the outpouring
of support that so many gave this year
as we ride off into the sunset with
over $1,000,000 raised for Wounded
Warrior Project and a total legacy of
over $25,000,000 for charities to date.
Lives are changed because of your
attendance and participation over
these years and I thank you from the
bottom of my heart.” Love Ride for the past 15 years. Chris and
Lisa Dalgaard and the Quick Throttle family
would like to personally thank Oliver Shokouh,
his daughter Emily and son Richard for their
tremendous contribution to the motorcycle
community and to our entire society. They

PRODUCT REVIEW
We test the new Titan
1,000 lb. motorcycle lift
here are many brands, sizes and styles of
motorcycle lifts currently available, usually
falling into one of two categories - the
professional market (service shops and dealerships)
or the consumer market (motorcycle owners). The
consumer market is interesting because it can be
anyone from the bike owner who wants a better
way to clean and detail his ride, to the wrench who
wants to change tires, perform oil changes without
kneeling or laying on his garage floor, or even fully
servicing his ride, on his own and in his own garage.
So we were intrigued when this company, Titan
Lifts, started marketing their product to both the
pros and consumers alike. Full disclosure - Titan
has been an advertiser with this magazine. But
“fuller” disclosure - we have taken ad dollars from
companies and never provided product reviews. I’ll
let you read between the lines on that one.
So when Titan asked us to review their product,
we said we had a better idea - let an independent
motorcycle shop review it, and we’ll chime in too.
Jimmy’s V-Twins in Mission Viejo was chosen as the
recipient and lab rat. A role he was happy to fill,
because he’s got about 3 other brands of lifts in his
shop and has had ample experience with them all.
He has opinions about them all, and shared his pros
and cons with this one. Before we get into them
though, let’s go over some basic specs.
We tested the Titan SDML-1000D-XLT (always love
these model numbers) which is their 1,000 lb. lift
unit. It comes equipped with front tire vise, front
extension and side extensions which gives it a
large enough platform to work on everything from
motorcycles and ATVs to jet skis and snowmobiles.
It uses a 7” air powered cylinder which raises
the extra-large platform up to 33”. It features a
multi-positional front table extension (great for
accommodating longer bikes), a standard rear
wheel drop out, a roller plate drop out, detachable
ramps, a two-wheeled dolly, 12-gauge diamond
plate construction, powder coating in either black
and grey or black and orange, and a 1 year parts
warranty. Dimensions are 99 inches long (max
length), 48 inches max width, and max height of 33
inches.
T

DECEMBER 2015
DECEMBER 2015
One of the things we (Jimmy and QT) liked right
away about this unit is the overall fit and finish. It
just looks and feels solid. The diamond plate and
powdercoating give it a clean, tight look but also
serve form and function. Many other lifts don’t do
this and they look cheesy.
What really struck us though were the side
extensions. You can really work around your bike,
stand up with it on the lift (hell, if you get someone
to work the pedal for the air compressor, you can
ride up with your bike), set your tools on it, etc.
Jimmy pointed out that other brands have these
available for sale, to add on, but that Titan includes
them in one price, that works out better than piecemeal.
Another cool feature we like is the rear drop out
plate. you can slide out the flat plate and slide in
the roller plate, so that your rear tire sits on rollers!
Imagine the possibilities....and, of course you can
leave the plate out in order to more easily change
or remove the rear tire.
Now Jimmy at Jimmy’s V-Twins is just like the rest
of us - he had a perfectly good, standard set-up
lift here, and immediately customized it! But this
mod is one I think we’d all make - he ordered the
“Bulldog moto cradle wheel chock” to replace the
standard front wheel vise clamp. Certainly nothing
wrong with the vice clamp, but it needs to be
manually tightened to hold the front wheel (and
thus the whole bike, at least at first) and that can
be tricky if you’re the guy who just rode the bike
onto your lift and you now have to dismount, and
balance the bike with one hand while you reach
down and tighten with the other...I’m having visions
of my pride and joy falling right off the lift, so I’ll go
with the Bulldog, thank you very much. All you do
is roll the front wheel into it, it flips as you roll and
holds the bike in place! No it’s not a new design, but
it might be the smartest and safest lift or bike trailer
accessory ever...so yeah, spend the money.
Now - were there any features we didn’t like? Of
course. No product is perfect. We noticed that
the air cylinder is a bit smaller than others on
comparable lifts, but in actual use we can’t see the
difference - this thing lifted an 800 lb. bike, two
male adults and one small dog (see video at www.
quickthrottle.com) and it did it with ease. I didn’t
see it lagging at all.
The other small complaint, very small, was on the
bar that comes down to lock the platform in place,
a safety feature after the air cylinder has lifted it.
This bar folds up and out of the way until you need
it. Well it had a tendency to come down when
raising the platform, due to a lose catch. It was not
at all a safety issue, just a mere annoyance. Easily
adjusted or fixed with a $1 clamp.
There’s also a cool little detachable dolly that quickly
hooks on and lets you move the rig around on it’s
wheels. Important if you’re using it in your garage
and like me, are always shifting stuff around..
So what’s the bottom line? We liked it, Jimmy likes
it and is keeping it, it performs well as a shop lift,
and in my garage would look good and perform
just as well. In it’s price range of about $950-1150.
there are competitors, but as a complete package
this one’s at the top of the list.

It’s a Dog’s Life...
And a Soldier’s!
“Saving Lives, Two at a Time”
At Biggs H-D’s Celebrity Ride
By Randy Twells; Photos- RT & Howie Wahl
Every 63 minutes, a US Veteran commits suicide.
An average of 23 precious lives a day… Every 11
seconds, an animal is euthanized.
To do something about this, Biggs Harley-Davidson
in San Marcos hosted a Celebrity Ride August 29th,
to benefit Shelter to Soldier, a San Diego-based
501(c)3 nonprofit that rescues dogs from an otherwise
uncertain future in local shelters, and trains them to
become certified psychiatric service companions
for post-9/11 combat veterans with PTSD and/or
traumatic brain injuries.
Radio personality Clint August from 101.5 KGB
Classic Rock, Dr. Ken Druck (author and coach on
resilience & turning challenge into opportunity), and
Sam Hay from the Oceanside Police Canine Officers’
Association led the ride starting at 11 a.m. from Biggs
Harley-Davidson along a coastal route. Motorcycle
riders signed up to participate for a $10 donation.
The post ride party event was open to the public, with
a variety of fundraising activities throughout the day.
Things started off with a hot waffle bar breakfast at
9 a.m., followed by a celebrity meet-and-greet before
the start of the ride at 11 a.m. Opportunity drawing
tickets sold like those proverbial hot cakes, and a
silent auction had items including a tool kit from
Cornwell Tools and autographed professional sports
memorabilia.
Shelter to Soldier set up a booth exhibit onsite, with
some of the canine companion candidates in training
right there, ready for some huggin’ and lovin’ with
their prospective new companions. That evening,
the local news channel carried coverage of the first
part of the day with the ride and some interviews
of some military members who had been helped by
this organization. One recipient said basically that
it saved his life. Which bears out the whole mission
of this group.
At noon there was a free barbecue lunch with cold
drinks for all and shady tables & chairs to enjoy the
Casey Hensley Band performance, followed with
a K-9 unit demonstration by the Oceanside Police
Department in support of the cause.
Officer Sam Hay had his K-9 partner Gonzo and
Officer Frank Wagner had Max. Gonzo and Max are
Belgian Malinois breed, 5 & 6 yrs. old respectively.
They understand commands in French and English.
They demonstrated how they apprehend a suspect
among other things, and those arm pads they use
for practice demo’s are for a good reason. Jaws of
steel! But these dogs are so obedient to their partners,
and gentle too, as they also live with their partners at
home with their families including children.
A presentation on stage with comments by Biggs H-D
Marketing Director Howie Wahl, Clint August, and
Dr. Ken Druck explained more about the purpose of
the event and appreciation for everyone coming out
to support it.
Biggs’ Vendor Village ran from 9 -3 and had HarleyDavidson logo products; all proceeds benefiting
Shelter to Soldier. Lots of opportunity drawing
prizes were given out to happy winners too, with the
ticket proceeds also going to the cause.
Howie Wahl sent out a nice email that very day to
everyone who attended and supported, saying in
part, “We would like to thank all of you very much
for joining us at our first Celebrity Ride. We raised
more than $1700 to give to Shelter to Soldier. You
helped save two lives at a time today. God Bless You!”
The statistics mentioned at the start, mean that every
day, an average of 22 U.S. veterans and one activeduty service member commit suicide, according to
the Department of Veteran Affairs; and every 11
seconds, an animal is euthanized in the U.S. But
Shelter to Soldier gets some of these dogs before
that happens, and raises and trains them over the
course of 12-16 months for a high level of service
in psychiatric support for combat vets suffering
from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), TBI
(traumatic brain injury) and /or other mental
health disabilities. Head Trainer Graham Bloem

Harley Davidson of Scottsdale
A Brand
New Home
By Tracy Smiles
The time frame was Arizona Bike Week 2014,
day one. The location was Scottsdale Harley
Davidson. The event was the huge announcement
and grand unveiling of plans to build a brand new
dealership. This dealership was being billed as
the future “largest dealership in the world”!! No
expense would be spared. Ground breaking would
start before year’s end and the doors would be open
for business in fall of 2015!! There was a lot of avid
excitement in the air amongst the crowd that day at
the thought of what this new place would be!
Fast forward to Thursday October 8th, 2015. The
day is finally here! After having received the keys
to the September 25th, and a very aggressive week
of packing up and moving out of the old dealership
and into the new one, this is the first day of business
for the new building! Starting things off right,
there was an official flag ceremony held, and then
it was no holds barred, as customers were excitedly
waiting to enter the new store! Business was off
the charts all weekend long, with all the pomp and
circumstance due for a grand party of this nature!
Free beer, lots of food, live music, tattoos, and of
course Harley Davidson motorcycles… and lots of
them!
I was finally able to make my own way over
there on Sunday. It was difficult watching all the
people posting pictures and comments on social
media about this beautiful new place, knowing I
had to wait until Sunday before I could get over
there myself. But finally that day rolled around
and I almost felt like a kid at Christmas time! The
allure of a brand new building! The feel of the
excitement from everyone around me! The smell
of everything brand new!! It was all a bit of sensory
overload, to a certain degree!! Pulling into the
large, ample parking lot, there was barely a place to
park for anyone, motorcycles or cages.
34
I walked in and introduced myself to the lady
in the reception area, and asked to speak to the
General Manager. Doug Roessing then came up
and introduced himself to me with a warm smile
and a solid handshake. Doug’s smile was very
much an ear to ear grin, and the sparkle in his eyes
was another confirmation of all the positive energy
and excitement that was naturally being pulled out
of people here in this new “grown up toy store”.
After explaining why I was there, and asking if it
were possible to get a tour of the place, he hooked
me up with Kevin Friedman. Now come to find
out this was actually Kevin’s day off. He took time
out of his day and gave my mother and I the red
carpet, grand tour of the facility, spending at least
a good solid hour with the two us. We started
out in one of the motor clothes areas, which was
amply stocked with all the in season styles! Full of
leather, bling, and everything in between. We then
worked our way around to more of the showroom
floor, where it was explained that all the wood on
the floor is actually reclaimed wood product. It’s
an absolute picture of beautiful perfection.
Working our way upstairs led us to an arcade area,
with a few pinball games, tabletop games and an
old school jukebox. There are a couple King of
the Road Motorcycle arcade pieces that will be
added to this collection as well in the very near
future. Enough to show us that no matter how
old we get, we all still have that kid lurking inside,
wanting to play the games.
On the second floor also is a wedding chapel/
multi-purpose room (Yes, you read that right, a
wedding chapel!) Very elegant and intimate for
that perfect occasion, if you so desire! This area
was designed with special floors and other features
to enhance the acoustics in the room. As a matter
of fact, there is already a wedding booked to take
place here, during the grand opening weekend
DECEMBER 2015
celebration!
Just outside the chapel is a nice coffee bar and
a high top table area with ample electrical outlet
pullouts built into the table tops. A perfect place to
sit and recharge.
Moving on, we get to the new state of the art
Club Tattoo studio. I believe I saw 5 or 6 tattoo
chairs in there. The studio is set up with high end
everything and the artists are ready to take on new
clients in addition to their currently existing ones!
Word has it that during the first Saturday (the day
prior to my tour), the artists were all busy with
clients in their chairs all day long! They have nice
state of the art kiosks in the studio that contain
all of their portfolios. I spoke with two of them
while I was there, Sway and Leilani. They both
expressed genuine excitement at the opportunity of
being able to work in this studio and interact with
the clientele and customer base of the dealership.
This place also has a nice little boutique feel to it,
with some apparel and accessory items for sale as
well. I, for one, am looking forward to going back
and giving some of my business to Club Tattoo!
Back on the second floor is a bridge way that
allows you to look down onto the first floor and all
the activity of the showroom. There are also more
high-top tables and chairs up there to just sit and
chill, relax and visit, or whatever.
Heading back down to the first floor, they have the
motorcycle rental area, which currently has a fleet
of about 110 motorcycles available to rent. There
is also the Rumble Zone, which is an area where
about 5 or 6 motorcycles are set up in a circle,
facing outward. In the center of the Rumble Zone
is a huge exhaust duct, allowing the ability to fire
up any of these bikes inside the dealership to get a
DECEMBER 2015
real time sense of what each exhaust system has
to offer.
In addition, this facility also has an Audio Room
where an Electra Glide Ultra Classic is set up with
8 speakers on the bike. There is one pair in the
fairing, one pair in the fairing lowers (engine guard
area), one pair in the saddlebags and one pair in
the tour pack. There are four amplifiers on the
bike - one for each pair of speakers. Switches on
the dash of the bike allow the operator to activate
all the speakers, or isolate to whatever combination
of pairs a customer may be interested in listening
to, for consideration for purchase for their own
motorcycle. There are also different wall mounted
speakers that can be plugged into, to listen to as
well. Kevin turned on all the speakers at once
(the ones on the bike), and the sound quality was
better than most home stereo systems I’ve heard!
I can’t quite imagine having all of them actually
mounted on your motorcycle though… quite a bit
overboard, but hey, if that’s what you want!
Spooky Fast Customs also has a satellite area
inside the dealership where they are able to work
with potential clients and build a computerized
mock up of what you want from your custom idea.
They can then save the computer generated version
of what was built and send it to their shop to have
your idea brought to life.
Further on in the dealership are the parts and
service areas. The service bay is one of the largest
I’ve seen, with an open concept feel, broken down
into 4 large quadrants. There had to have been
close to a dozen lifts out there! It reminded me
of a hospital surgical environment. A place that
you feel comfortable when you leave your bike for
maintenance and service, knowing it is in the best
hands possible.
Down in the basement there is a theater. I found
this to be an odd addition to a dealership, so I
asked Kevin about it. “The theater will offer us
multiple opportunities to showcase products,
workshops, training and host special events.
We are already scheduling parts, service and
Motorclothes workshops for the theater. Only the
first 48 to RSVP will get a ticket for a seat. We will
also host training for service technicians utilizing
the motorcycle lift in the floor to train on new
techniques or HD factory updates. And we will
plan special events, possibly a football Sunday for
recent new motorcycle buyers to experience the
theater.”
Kevin further stated, “As with our other destination
features - wedding chapel/multi-purpose room,
outdoor patio & stage, safety & training room the theater will also be available to rent for special
events.”
There is also a huge underground staff parking
garage and another indoor storage/secondary
showroom area that has an extra few hundred new
and used motorcycles available for customers.
This dealership boasts just less than 150,000 square
feet of exquisite, beautiful Harley heaven-ness.
There is certainly a little bit of something here for
anyone and everyone to enjoy.
The grand opening weekend is set for November
5-7, 2015. This is a perfect opportunity to come
out and experience all the dealership has to offer!
On the main stage on the night of November 7th,
the Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald will
be here, rocking the house! Make your way on over
to Scottsdale Harley Davidson and come see, feel
and experience everything they have to offer!
And, as always, if you see me flying by, stop me
and say hello!!!

Back in the Saddle
At Sweetwater Harley-Davidson
Story & Photos by Randy Twells
On Thursday evening, September
3rd the new 2016 Harley-Davidson
Motorcycles were unveiled at a
special VIP party at Sweetwater H-D
in National City, California so, I was
honored to be included. Sweetwater
H-D is back in the saddle and inviting
everyone to come along for the ride.
Their policy is, the customer is #1.
Now of course to start off with,
I’m hungry, so I shot a few photos
to make sure I had some nonfood-covered-lens shots, THEN I
headed for the salt & pepper garlic
chicken wings, they were awesome.
I had to ask where from? Golden
Mandarin in next door Chula Vista,
Sweetwater’s prior back yard, so they
‘know’ where to find the good stuff.
Nachos and ice cold beer, soda &
bottled water plus gourmet cookies
and coffee, rounded out the menu.
It was a home run already!
But of course the main focus was
the 2016 models there to check outAndy the General Sales Mgr. and
Sales Associate Louis, gave a nice
presentation with an overview of the
new models. Taking questions from
the crowd gathered, they homed
in on new features and the latest
technology on the 2016’s.
In general though, this was a
chance to bring people together.
Sweetwater H-D claims the #1
spot for Military sales in San Diego
County— accompanied by their
policy of whenever possible, hiring
former Military men and women.
Also being the first H-D dealer on
the West Coast to have an in house
tattoo studio, was a no brainer they
were on top of, very popular with
our military members.
Everyone who came to the party
got a free raffle ticket, and they
gave away some good stuff. Various
accessory items and also a wash/
detail kit, plus $25 gift cards to

hard to miss. Sweetwater Girls Lisa
& Gina served as hostesses for the
evening, helping with prizes and bike
modeling (thank you) among other
duties. Ralph in Parts gave us a tour
of what’s new there.
Then Paul the HOG Chapter
Director rounded up the new
members and we all welcomed
them into the warm Sweetwater
HOG riding family right there. The
HOG Officers were introduced
too and Mike the HOG Chapter
photographer shot photos. This
HOG Chapter is very much a part of
dealership events and activities and a
very friendly chapter I can testify to
myself. At its prior location in Chula
Vista, this HOG Chapter, the first in
California, was started almost 30
years ago and it’s still going strong
here at Sweetwater.
General Manager Anastasia was
there to represent for herself and

WOMEN WHO RIDE
Geri Cidot
Story by Ray Seidel
QT: When did you become interested in
motorcycles?
Geri: When I was about 13, my sister came over
on a Honda – I don’t know the size, it was a purple
Honda and she told me to get on the back. And she
took me on a ride, and ever since then.
QT: And when did you start riding yourself?
Geri: I got my motorcycle license January 2014. I
passed my test then.
QT: Did you take the CHP course, or some other
way?
Geri: I did it at Saddleback riding school in Orange
County. Great riding school.
QT: And your first bike was?
Geri: The first bike I learned on was my boyfriend’s
bike which was a Honda 750. I bought myself a
Honda VTX with hyper charger.
QT: And then, next bike?
Geri: Literally one month, 30 days after buying that,
I bought an Indian Vintage Chief.
QT: Brand new?
Geri: Brand new. In March.
QT: And the next bike was?
Geri: [Smiles] My next bike, after I rode that Indian
Vintage everywhere, in January of 2015, I bought a
2014 Triumph Bonneville T100.
QT: And you have a 3rd bike.
Geri: Yeah, a month after that, which was in January,
I bought an Aprilia Shiver – an Italian sports bike.
QT: And how many miles on each bike?
Geri: The Indian, from March to October, I rode it 14
different states, and I had about 35,000 miles on it,
and I did that in 7 months. Then the Bonneville from
January until now [July 5th, 2015] as of today has
3400 miles on it, and my Aprilia Shiver has about
3500 miles on it.
QT: You’ve clearly done lots of riding. What are
some of the high points of some of the places
you’ve been to?
Geri: Okay, I don’t know if you have enough paper
to say all the places I’ve been. I’ll start with the
States. So when I got my Indian in March – when
I first started riding, I knew what kind of riding
I wanted to do, so when I taught myself I was
already going through canyons, doing canyon rides
by myself. I really wanted to do twisties, and be
aggressive. So I got my Indian Vintage in March and
in August was on an all Indian event in Minnesota
that I wanted to go to. So I took off on a 3 week
vacation, solo on the Indian to go to that, and I
went the long way to hit some of my buckets lists.
And I went through California, kinda like Las Vegas,
because I went through Nevada, and then I hit Utah.
And this is my favorite place, because I’ve been back
5 times. I went through Zion, then to Bryce Canyon,
then up the 89 where you hit Red Rocks, then you
go up into Highway 70 – gorgeous ride, you get up
to 10,000 feet elevation, and you go into Capitol
Reef. If you’ve never been to Capitol Reef that’s a
38
must place to go to in Utah. From there you can hit
Moab which is phenomenal. From there on that ride
I went through parts of Idaho to get to Wyoming. I
did most of Yosemite. And east of Yellowstone and
the Grand Tetons. If you ever go to Yellowstone
you got to do the Grand Tetons, they’re AMAZING.
That’s where I encountered the buffalo. From there
I did Beartooth. If you’ve never heard of Beartooth,
look it up on a map, try to do it, gorgeous. You hit
elevations in August so high you are in snow and
ice caps all over the place. Then you drop down
to Red Lodge, Montana. Montana is absolutely
beautiful. From there I was kind of running out of
time because I had to get over to my Indian event. I
went through North Dakota, very flat, lots of bugs.
Then I dropped into Minnesota, and I did the all
Indian event in Minnesota. Then I went down into
Iowa, and I went to Spirit Lake, Iowa, to view the
factory where my “Ginger” was born – Ginger is my
motorcycle.
QT: How was the tour?
Geri: The tour was good. We were the first tour
that was allowed to go there because of the people
that I was with. Let me backtrack to my All Indian
Ride event in Minnesota. Phenomenal. I met,
and am very good friends with now, John Munro,
which is Burt Munro’s son – “The World’s Fastest
Indian” – he did the record on the Salt Flats with
his Indian motorcycle, so his son was at that event.
The greatest guy ever. So spent the weekend there,
visiting and talking with him.
I met Danny Trejo, very nice guy. Art Welch puts on
a very, very good event. Met friends for the rest of
my life at that event. That’s when I went down to
Spirit Lake, Iowa, for the tour. We were the first tour
after the re-opened factory for the assembly line of
the new Scout. The factory is beautiful. They treat
their workers well. I was really looking at that. I’m
extremely picky about Industry and how they treat
their workforce. And I’d have to say top notch, it
was really cool. They were also doing production
of the Slingshot there, too. The Polaris Slingshot,
which is a lot of fun. And we saw the very first
Roadmasters, too, that day, because they were just
releasing the Roadmaster. So from Spirit Lake, Iowa I
had to say goodbye to all the friends I just met. Rick
Lossner, amazing guy, he’s the President of the Iron
Riders in Texas chapter. Then from Iowa I decided I
wanted to back track and do South Dakota. I did it to
South Dakota the first time because I had to bypass
a storm. That’s why I did North Dakota. You know
what – North Dakota was awesome – I followed the
Colorado River which was kind of cool going into
Minnesota. So then I went back into South Dakota.
Sioux Falls, I went into Rapid City. I wanted to go
see all the rides you do during Sturgis when it isn’t
the Sturgis event. So I went into Sturgis, I went to
go see Mount Rushmore. I did the Black Hills, I did
Spearfish – gorgeous – I did Devil’s Tower – that was
really beautiful.
I wanted to do that without all the bikes because I
knew the following year I was going to do the actual
Sturgis event because that’s on the bucket list of
mine. So I did all those rides, met fabulous people
there also, just on a whim.
QT: This is all on the Vintage?
Geri: Still on the Vintage, and this was my three
weeks. This is just the three weeks I did in August.
Then from there – I love Utah so much – I dropped
back down into Utah, and I did more of Moab, and
then I did all of the Arches – I did Arches National
Park, so beautiful. All of Moab, then I circled back
around and I did Capital Reef, and stayed at the
same exact hotel, the same exact room, talked to
DECEMBER 2015
the same people as the second day of my trip. Then
I dropped back into Zion and then came back home.
That’s my three week trip in August.
Besides that in all the other months I’ve done all of
PCH in California. I’ve done all of Mulholland, the
Snake, The Rock Store, Neptune’s, Ojai; there’s some
beautiful back roads going out of Ojai that go up and
hit the “5.” I’ve done the Redwoods in California,
and I have to say those are the tightest, smallest
twisties you can do – and I did that on the Vintage,
which is a huge bike to do those twisties on – quite
difficult. I’ve now done Highway 49, with you, we
just started doing that right now. I’ve done Arizona,
DECEMBER 2015
how could I forget that? I did another 4 day ride
with a friend – he took the Bonneville and I took the
Aprilia, and we did a 4 State ride in 4 days. And we
did all of Utah. Again, my favorite Utah rides, so I
took him up through Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Moab
– and we went a different way, it was amazing…
dropped down into Arizona. We did Monument
Valley; never done Monument Valley – I didn’t think
it was a big deal – it was absolutely phenomenal.
Went into Sedona, Arizona. Wow! That’s all I can
say. Gorgeous. Gotta go down into Sedona, Prescott,
gorgeous ride – most beautiful scenery. Then we
dropped back down and into California – so I’ve
done all of that. And I’m probably missing some
other things I’ve done.
[Note: after this interview Geri’s plans to do Sturgis
and the All Indian Bike event this year had to be
called off as custom work on her Indian was not yet
finished.]
QT: Tell us what you’re doing to your Indian now.
Geri: It’s been in project 7 months – 8 months [as
of the interview on July 5th] and I miss it, that’s why
the other bikes are getting so many miles on them,
because I have to ride every day or I’ll go crazy. It’s
being completely remodeled – for a couple reasons.
I went down on it, so I decided to customize it – and
I was thinking about doing that anyways. When I
went to the Indian Ride Event I realized my Indian
wasn’t quite as unique as I thought it was, because
everybody had the same Indian, and that’s not
the way I am. I have to have everything look just
one of a kind. Even my Bonneville and Aprilia, the
same way. So I’m doing a complete paint job by
Spade Brothers. I am redoing all of
the exterior on it from Dirty Bird –
which you can imagine – everybody
knows Dirty Bird. I’m taking off the
soft bags and I’m putting on hard
bags. I’m lowering it, I’m putting a
lower seat on it, and I’m having the
bars done exactly for my height.
They’re going to be like ape bars.
I rode a friend’s Harley-Davidson
with ape hangers and never thought
I’d love it, but it was the greatest
ride. I’m usually with beach bars,
but these were amazing. So they’re going to be
shoulder length. We’re doing Big Daddy front tire
and rim, and it will be custom colored for the bike.
I’m doing custom exhaust - Jekill & Hyde – so I’ll be
one of the first people in California to have Jekill &
Hyde exhaust, and if you don’t know what that is
you should look it up. Phenomenal, perfect for me.
I do State parks, so you can baffle in or out, so you
can have it loud, or you can have it baffled so you
can have it quiet. Very important for me because
I encounter a lot of wildlife and I like that. When I
went on my trip, that was the first time I’d have to
say I was happy that I had stock exhaust, because of
all the wildlife, and you want that kind of semi-quiet
so you experience all of that. So I’m putting Jekill
and Hyde on there. Everything you can think of is
being customized on that bike. It will not look like a
2014 Indian bike when it’s done.
QT: So, to continue on your short term plan.
Geri: Short Term Plan. Two things are in play, and
typically the way I travel – most people will say
I’m doing this on Day One, doing this on Day Two,
doing this on Day Three – I don’t do that. First of
all weather can send you anywhere. I don’t want to
ever ride into a storm. I have done it because getting
home on my last trip I couldn’t avoid it. (I forgot
to mention Fiery Gorge was beautiful, if you’ve
never seen Fiery Gorge you’ve got to do that). So,
first plan, Plan A, is I’m thinking about going all
the way up PCH 1. I would like to do it again, even
though I’ve done it several times in California, I’ve
never taken it all the way through Oregon and
Washington. So I’m going to do it all the way up
and go into Canada this time. I want to start hitting
Canada.
Then after that I’ll still have I think about a week to
ride. I want to try to hit Colorado because I’ve not
done Colorado yet. Or, I may go down and do Tail of
the Dragon. I want to do Tail and all the rides around
Tail. Then if I do that, I’ll drop into Florida, and then
I’ll do the coast to coast 50 Iron Butt Challenge, and
come straight home.
QT: Wow. And long term?
Geri: Next year I probably will do the Killarney Bike
Event, so I want to start flying abroad. And I’ve met
so many different friends…I have a friend in England
who said that he will completely hook me up with
a bike, any place I go, out of country, it will be for
motorcycles. It’ll be on rides, not cars or tours. If it’s
not Killarney it will probably be Scotland, or it will
be Sicily. One of those three will be my next year.
And, Rolling Thunder. 2016 will be out of country
somewhere – Killarney is almost positive that’s what
I’m going to do, and Rolling Thunder in the United
States. Another trip is Hwy 1 down to Cabo. Then
take the ferry to Guadalajara, then ride back up into
the US via one of the states.
QT: And what are you looking at as your next bike?
Geri: There are so many thought
processes going through my head.
If I could get 2 more bikes, I would
really like to do a dual sport. I
started loosely off roading even on
the Bonneville and on the Aprilia
– some people will think I’m crazy
– but when I go with the Capitol
Reef, now the roads just aren’t good
enough for me, I want to do like
the little back canyons. So I started
kind of loosely off roading on those,
and I’m starting to really love that.
So I’ve been starting to look at dual sports. I really
like the Triumph. The height, the clearance, I might
have to drop it down because I’m only five-four, on
a good day. So it’s kind of hard for me to touch the
ground on those. So if I do that I’ll get a dual-sport
as my next one. I’m also looking at whatever Indian
releases in 2016. I’m interested to see what that is
because I would like to get another smaller Indian.
Or, and I’ve owned Harley-Davidsons in the past, I’m
thinking about getting a Street Bob Harley-Davidson,
and I also like the V-Rods. So my brain’s kind of all
over the place, but definitely a 4th bike is in the near
future. [Note: After this interview Geri bought a red
2014 Indian Chieftain.]
QT: And you do work!
Geri: [Smiles] I do work, full-time. Yeah, people
think I do this as a job. I wish. Yeah, I don’t have a
husband who is supporting me; I’m single. Divorced.
Done paying alimony. I work full time. I get a great
vacation package. I’ve been with the company that I
work for for 19 years. So I use all my vacation time,
every moment of my time off, every moment of my
weekend, riding. That’s how I get all this done.
QT: Thank you Geri.
Geri: You’re welcome.

BikeToBeer Fest
Saddletramps Event for
the Boys & Girls Club
Story by Randy Twells; Photos- RT, Barry
Claessens Photography & Contributed
As the summer heat flowed through into October
in San Diego County, the Lakeside Saddletramps
MC held their 11th Annual BikeToBeer Fest, out
at the Ma-Tar-Awa RV Park on the Viejas Indian
Reservation. Out here in East San Diego County
at higher elevation, the air was cooler and breezy,
quite a relief from the never ending heat wave this
year at lower elevations.
Club President Carl
“Coyote” Smith heads up the team that makes it
all happen, with the support of his wife and right
arm Monica.
With this 3-day Campout open to everyone (not
just the Saddletramps), campers arrive Friday
afternoon and stay right through to Sunday midday, making a great relaxing getaway with all the
facilities right there a stone’s throw away from the
large back-country fenced lot populated by huge
old live oak trees that offer wonderful cooling
shade and ambience. All for a good cause, the
Boys & Girls Clubs of East (San Diego) County,
which really appreciates this support.
So what goes on at the Biketobeer Fest, you ask?
Bike Games, Raffle Prizes, Food and Music – a
winning formula every time!
Soooo…. This year’s events on Saturday started
off around Noon with a new idea, the Frozen
T-shirt contest. You’ve heard of the Wet T-shirt
contest, well this is … frozen. The process is the
reverse of the Wet T-shirt, as in this one the ladies
start out with NO shirt, then are handed a t-shirt
dunked in water and frozen into a ball, and the
winner is the one who can get it pulled apart and
put it on as you would any t-shirt, FIRST. And the
prize was, $300 cash.
So you can bet these ladies do whatever it takes,
stomping on, flinging and smashing the shirtballs around on the elevated flatbed floorboards
attempting to loosen them up enough to put on
first. All to the cheers and whistles of the crowd of
onlookers. You had to be there. For some reason
my Dad’s sense of humor came to mind. He was
in the Army Air Corps during WW2 and they
had a motto for the mechanics like my Dad was,
but when he & his buddies quoted it they weren’t
referring to the B-29’s they kept airworthy--- the
motto being, “Keep Them Flying!”
So how do you follow THAT?!! Well next came
40
the Weenie Bite Contest and Slow Races. Both
won by a friendly guy who gave his name as just
“Trouble” (which probably was his middle name
as a kid, I’m guessing..). I spoke with Trouble
later in the evening; he said the fact that he’s been
slow-racing since he was about 12 years old may
have contributed to his win of both games. He
also mentioned that as a little kid he remembers
playing with his toys on the floor in Sonny Barger’s
house. His Dad was a biker too and together they
built a 68 Ironhead, and he would ride his Dad’s
bike too. So fast forward to the Biketobeer Fest—
Trouble and a young lady named Heather won the
Weenie Bite. Trouble split the $100 cash prize with
her, and he went on to
win the Slow Race too
as mentioned, both
on his 2000 Softail
Custom. What a day!
Soon it was time for
the renown Biketobeer
Fest BBQ-- and what
a feast it was! Beef
and Pork had been
cooked in-ground for
2 days and now were
served up tender and
succulent on Saturday with beans, really good cole
slaw and rolls and plenty of soft drinks & water.
And of course, beer! This is, after all, the Bike To
Beer Fest. Since it’s a campout, and on private
property, you can partake of the beverages and
then roll right into your tent or camper and not
have to worry about drinking and driving.
Throughout the afternoon you could see if your
raffle ticket won a prize too. Sponsors donated a
ton of items, for example gift certificates to many
local businesses such as for one, $25 from San
Diego Leather Jacket Factory.
As the afternoon waned into sunset, a bike pulled in
ridden by a man with long white hair &
goatee and a long twisted walking stick
lashed to the front end; I wanted to take
his picture so I introduced myself. Turns
out this gentleman (and he was, truly),
only known as “Ol’ Bud” including on
his bike’s license plate, was just turning
80. His 80th birthday party would be
celebrated the following week at Flynn
Springs Inn, with all of his biker ‘family’.
Ol’ Bud’s girlfriend Marie then decided
it was time someone took a photo of the
photographer (getting photobombed by
Rusty’s Cycle Werx
By Wild Bill Saxton
a visiting club member too), as you can see. And
Ol’ Bud doesn’t plan on retiring from riding—and
he’s riding a Dyna, not a trike mind you-- any time
soon.
The Music had started off on Friday night actually
with the local band Showdown, and then Saturday
evening was die hard country group Sick String
Outlaws. The Outlaws were funny— singing “I
like Merle Haggard, and I like to get stoned,” then
onstage a little banter, “Anyone out here like to get
stoned?”… ..no audience reply… so from the mic
again, “I think they’re all stoned man..…” It was
classic. They performed many country & rock hits
like Sweet Home Alabama and many more.
The Saddletramps made this a special event in
another way too, as they surprised a Prospect with
a Club Patch, making him a full member, with man
hugs and congratulations all around and some
teasing too. The Saddletramps are all about riding,
and doing something good for their community,
as evidenced by proceeds from this event again
going to the Boys & Girls Clubs of East San Diego
County. And they invite you to join them next
year!

One of our new advertisers on the pages of one
of the most popular free motorcycle magazines
in the Southwest is Rusty’s Cycle Werx. Yes, it is
spelled right. If you remember way back when
in the days of customer service, when you were
treated right (as a customer should be treated),
and if you had a problem with your bike, you
received an estimate and a diagnosis up front,
not a whole laundry list of things you could
spend money on and why you’d have to wait 6
weeks. Rusty’s Cycle Werx is a destination of
relief for all of us riders that just like to ride and
do not know a whole lot of, well you know…
CC, Bore, Torque, and MPG.
As you ride through our City of Tucson AZ
from one side of town to the other and what
seems to stand out is our city is still behind the
power curve when it comes to getting back on
our feet from the depression/whatever they
are calling it now-a- days. Many buildings are
empty. For lease signs dawn, the streets of
boarded-up buildings and some areas are just
not taken care of anymore. It is not a ghost town
yet, and they are building on the north end and
it seems to be coming back slowly but surely.
Over on the east side of town located at 1261
S. Stocker Dr. Tucson AZ 85710 is Rusty’s, and
they can be reached at 520-296-0488 or e-mail
them [email protected].
Jon Dean and Phil Korte are the team you need
to meet. They know what they are doing and
how to do it. I have known Phil for the last 10
years or so, and he is the owner of Create A
Custom Cycles that builds some really awesome
custom bikes. We have done some past articles
on his products (One such ride, the Pee-Wee
Herman bike was sold at Barrett Jackson
Auction in Phoenix. Check out his website
www.createacustomcycle.com) I met Jon a few

years back and got to know him better on the
custom sidecar he and Phil built for the Ben &
Roscoe article “Post-traumatic Stress Disorder”.
These guys are the real thing and tell it as it is,
Old School, and it’s a relief to know it’s done
right.
I am sure in the near future they will be
expanding into the empty buildings on either
side of them as the word gets out that they are in
town and that you get it done right the first time,
and without having to refinance your house just
to ride. If you call them or e-mail them let them
know that I sent you or stop by and grab a Quick
Throttle Magazine. I will probably be hanging
out, seeing what they have or what they are
working on. Or just bugging them.
