Sleep experts have long promoted a good night’s sleep for children, insisting that proper rest can dramatically improve a child’s grades, after-school activities and relationships with friends and family. But coaxing kids to go to bed earlier isn’t the whole story. Some kids don’t have a bed to go to; others are sleeping on woefully inadequate ones. “We knew this was a problem,” says Kendra Maggert, Interactive Marketing Manager for Ashley HomeStores. “But to be honest, many of us were shocked at the level of need that exists right in our own backyards.” In 2010, A Hope to Dream was born of those findings, with a mission to help less fortunate children get a better night’s sleep. For every mattress sold in our stores, Maggert explains, five dollars was donated to provide a mattress set to local children in need. “After 6 months, we’d given away almost 900 beds,” she adds, “with only about 50 of our HomeStores participating.” Today, over 170 Ashley Furniture HomeStore locations support the program; a combined effort that generated almost 2,000 mattress set donations by year end. As for 2012, Maggert is pretty confident. “We intend to double that number!” For more information on participating stores, or to nominatea needy child, please visit www.ahopetodream.com.
